  1. No, remember we didn’t want to trade Schneider to Edmonton for a much better offer than we got from NJ? Why? Because Most teams don’t like improving teams in their own division let alone conference. Add in this is a cap dump, that they KNOW they’re getting the short end on, why would they want to improve a team they’re competing with to make the playoffs? Unless the offer is great value inside your division, you don’t do it. And clearly everyone knew this was a cap dump so they’re not getting full value offers back. They were probably asking for OJ or Guadette and a pick from us.
  2. Lol. He’s still a useful player and is being paid 3 mil. If the Canucks retain its even easier. his cap hit is 6 mil and salary is 3 mil . It’s a very different situation. At worst bury him in the minors - we don’t have cap issues
  3. They have to pay all those guys too if they work out. A team full of riches eventually won’t work because of the cap
  4. Because every player we don’t acquire is going to be a superstar, and any one we do is average and we overpaid! GMJB is always out gm’d don’t you get it! Lol
  5. Tryamkin still follows the Canucks has said he’s open to coming back, and his agent most recently said he wants him to come back (I’m sure selfish financial motivations play a part there lol, as he gets a % of the salary). That being said, Tryamkin’s agent said he’s open as well and that he’d want to sit down w mgmt and know his role. The recent interview sounded like a lot of “detailed” discussions where occurring. I think in reality he will be here post his season in Russia - March 2020
  6. I think with the Lou recapture, the Canucks want Erickson off the books all together. They won’t Be taking useless cap back now. Ie they won’t be swapping bad contracts. They want cap room to maintain financial flexibility to make moves
  7. Yes, if we’re assuming Juolevi and Tryamkin are ready, here soon, we need a stop gap. Unless we are moving Tanev.
  8. Sure but the problem then becomes where’s the room for Juolevi?
  9. He’s a UFA after this season, from New West, but a LD. Like him but if we trade for him we can’t give up much. SJ needs cap space for little Joe, and we are stacked on the left side. I just dont don’t see where he fits, we need to be making room for Juolevi at some point
  10. And then move Tanev mid season for the first before he gets hurt lol
  11. And Rathbone who's looking like he'll be a NHL player- they have the offense. Now need to insulate those guys with size and shut down ability
  12. They were ecstatic to get him. It was his size and probably the usual "euro discount" that allowed him to get to us. Many scouts say he legitmiately has the best hands in the draft...From the videos of the on ice workouts at camp today, he battles extremely hard, and can dangle. Apparently he was the 'winner' at the combine as well. He may very well be another steal if his size doesn't impede his ability to play in the NHL - but any kid with heart and intensity (which he seems to have) can overcome size as he's a solid skater as well.
  13. If you're going to sign Tavares, and have Matthews and Marner and Nylander, you have to be smart enough to know 1. Nylander is not worth 8 mil 2. He should have been your second line center but was not competitive nor defensively responsible enough to take that position and earn the 8 mil above 3. Sell him high in the offseason that you sign Tavares, for a young blue chip dman (Other teams wouldn't have seen his warts yet, and would have paid a pretty penny for that offense, even though much is a result of playing with Matthews). He had shine still. Had they made those moves, they would be in a much better position and not be in a position of now having to move pretty Willy for very little or risk losing Marner, or others like Kapanen etc. So yes they are not very bright
  14. Lou's recapture is probably a good thing for us. JB Is going to have to jettison junk, try and move Schaller and Spooner (5 mil), and at worst they come off the books next year. It also means we will have to play some youth which is probably good. Move Sutter, let Gaudette play, get a pick and prospect

Nice silver lining idea, some welcome positive thoughts!

We should definitely be playing the young guys.  Gaudette, Hughes, and OJ for sure.

id even let Hoglander have a go.  Kid looks like a player.

Only problem is other teams are dealing with the cap. It's going to be hard to find buyers.

  15. Schaller and Spooner off the books next year, try to move them prior = 5 mil
  16. they're off the books next year anyways, and try your best to move them
  17. They'd actually help in Utica, and if someone wants to claim them great. Emergency depth as well, doesn't hit our cap, and were effectively rotting in the press box anyways.
  18. waive schaller and spooner and we're up 2 mil after Luongo's cap hit- too many here are panicking for zero reason. If he was going to do it better now than next year or the year after when the cap hit would hurt, now, meh, doesn't mean anything to us. Waive those too and we're fine
  19. Umm waive them and send them to utica, buy out, or trade if you a get anything for them, even a cap floor team might want them
  20. Still not a major issue, jettison Schaller and Spooner (dead weight) and we open almost 5 mil in cap space
  21. And it’s more like 2.1/2.2 as we are paying 8-900k right now
