  1. Jake DeBrusk with better hands https://thehockeywriters.com/vancouver-canucks-vasili-podkolzin-draft-analysis/
  2. Kopitar vs Barasso - Kopitar all day
  3. I just want camp to start, but also don't want summer to end!
  4. Troy is a very good player, and has some untapped offensive talent for sure. But on a deep team he's a 4/5 dman, and so where he is now means good things for this team. He is a player that is a swiss army knife on D. Should one of our offensive dmen go down, he can help on the PP, he competes hard and is a Biega with less physicality and more offensive talent. He isn't as impactful offensively as Myers, or Hughes and as such his role is his role. He has an important role on this team even on the third pair as if that pair is good enough to take some of the pressure (minutes) off the top 2 pairs (because they can be trusted by Green) it only makes the top 2 pairs even more effective as they are more rested and less susceptible to injury. I actually think you and alf are kind of saying the same thing but different ways.
  5. "at the time" - just because a player makes it to the NHL first, and does well, does not mean our player will not make it to the NHL and do as well or better for his position. Therein lies the fallacy of their logic, its not a sprint its a marathon. If OJ is Roman Josi 2.0 will people be upset at the end of his career? Josi took 5 years post his draft (as an example) to solidify himself in the NHL.
  6. What I fail to understand, is how some 'fans' now that the draft is 3 years past, seem to want OJ to fail so that they can feel 'right'. As a fan, shouldn't you want the player to succeed and take a wait and see attitude given he's had some unfortunate injuries? I will never understand a fan who needs their ego stroked more than to see a potential stud dman become what he was drafted for. Especially when injuries are the reason he hasn't seen NHL ice yet.
  7. By the time a dman is a ufa he's at his peak and you're paying him for his downslope years and if he's put up big numbers you end up with a problem contract at the end of it. It's actually cheaper and smarter to sign ufa wingers as they are a dime a dozen and so there's less competition driving up prices (unless you're talking ovechkin level). Our toughness is now fine, (in reference to your prior post), and had we got Tkachuk we may very well not have got QH and Petey. I'd rather have them and OJ
  8. Yes , he has to clear waivers first but if he does, which he would, they can mutually terminate. No penalties, no cap hit and salary is gone as it’s a mutual decision and the contract is null.
  9. GMJB out GM’d again! Buuut AsSeT MaNAGeMeNtZzZ! See ya later Punk. What an idiot. Had he just not been an entitled brat and cared to push himself he’d be playing with Petey his whole career and riding his coattails to millions of dollars. Instead he’s going to make 125k in Europe, if that.
  10. Thanks, I was too lazy to look at their roster and figure it out lol
  11. I haven't looked at their roster but he's the type of player that if he can't protected in the expansion draft, will be one much like many players that vegas selected, who when given the chance to play top 6 minutes from a third line role, could blossom. He's taken a while, but don't forget he was a very high scoring, elite offensive player in junior. He has simply recreated his game to play a role to stay in the league. There's alot of untapped skill there.
  12. The part I don’t understand and is: 1. If you have Horton going on LTIR and say he’s 5.5 cap hit or whatever it is 2. And you can take on the contract of Clarkson for the 5 mil cap hit why did they even bother? They would already have the room 5.5+ spare 5 = 5.5 LTIR plus 5 LTIR. Unless there’s some clause that says you need 2 players on LTIR to be able to use it in the summer .
  13. As the say in business. The best deals are where neither side feels like they “won”
  14. I’m not sure actually but just clarifying what I was suggesting, and I “think” that’s the case but not positive as I’m no capologist
  15. I don’t think you’re getting my point. You don’t have to be cap compliant until day 1 of the regular season (at least that’s my understanding). As such, they can sign marner and be 10 mil over tomorrow and through camp, and then paper the 2 players onto LTIR before the reg season starts. Now if they must be cap compliant by training camp that changes things.
  16. Cap compliant on the first day of the season would mean they can sign marner now and be over until opening night.
  17. They don’t really get an “extra 10 mil” that’s useable on players. The two players they are taking cap hits for can’t play. If they were health they’d be getting no cap relief. I know what you’re saying but it’s not like they have an extra 10 mil player on their team AND marner. It’s still a stupid loophole but it’s allowed
  18. I think they can be over the cap till the first day of the season no? So he can still come to camp and the leafs not be subverting anything. But I am assuming and could stand corrected on that.
  19. who 'hates' him? I don't 'hate' hockey players. But he's clearly not competing hard for this team, his teammates, and his coaches, or let alone his own pride. That is not someone we need around a young team setting an example of what it means to be a pro.
  20. Actually its ALL on Erickson. He's a vet, he was given endless opportunities to find his offensive game all three years here. Compete and drive in ANY PROFESSION is a personal choice. Not your coach, not your boss, not your mom's fault because you're not competing. Bo started on the 4th line, why is he where he is now? Because he has internal drive, the will to compete, self respect and the desire to be his best. Erickson mailed it in man. In the professional world we call a person like that someone who has "checked out'
  21. Aaaand you're really suggesting Louie is in the same class as Gretz, Jagr, Francis, Naslund? LOL SMH, maybe they didn't hit because they always had the puck and the only time they didn't it was going into the oppenent's net and they were racking up points? Drrr
  22. I think the argument is as you've just stated BUT, one year of Marky is too hard to evaluate. The reality is, players in the NHL tend to get paid on past performance unless they are a young superstar. So while Bob may or may not be trending down (I think it will take another .913 year to make that assessment) and Marky may be trending up (It will take a better than .913 year to make that assessment this coming season), Bob's track record is why he got PAID....I do believe irrespective of the answer, Bob is overpaid, you don't want to tie up 10 mil in a goalie as its been proven a very good goalie and great team can win a cup, and really all it takes is your very good goalie to get hot at the right time. Carey Price is superman in net, he hasn't been able to overcome weak defense for a decade. Tim Thomas was a decent, albeit unconventional goalie but its very easy to argue, his stats were a result of a phenomenal defense. The days of Roy/Hasek/Brodeur single handedly winning the cup for their teams ended with their careers. If Marky can put up .920 type numbers this year, I'd most certainly prefer him at $5.5 mil vs Bob at $10 mil
  23. Actually some players do give up. They don’t have the compete left and it’s why many retire. It doesn’t take confidence to compete friend, it takes hunger. You can always outskate your opponent and work harder. That has zero to do with confidence. The issue most have here is despite his lack of point production he doesn’t seem to compete and that’s fully within his control.
  24. I think he’s delusional or a narcissist. The fact he can’t even see how piss poor his play was and blames or bitches about Green, when he’s been a pro for how long? As O’Neill said a coach doesn’t staple you to the bench because you’re playing too good. The fact no team wants him as you said, is going to be the rude awakening for him. He’s better off breaking his contract and going to play in Europe. He’ll get 1.5 mil to play in the KHL and prob 2-3 years
