  1. you seem angry. I hope you can find some assistance for your metal health challenges. Its not balanced to get angry and insult people on message boards when discussing a hockey team. Please go here if you need some assistance mindcheck.ca Be well
  2. I'm saying OUR hobey baker winner has shown he has the tools to be more. Anyone can see that. And he's certainly better than gaunce. Give it a rest
  3. Boeser is an interesting situation for JB. Let me start by saying I love this kid, but I also understand business. He is a real talent, has incredible character, and is the kind of player you want as part of your leadership team of the future. That being said, he's not without his 'warts' - again this is not to bash him but to look at him objectively. He had a great rookie year, cut short by injury, and a solid second year that clearly was impacted by that rehab/injury. Irrespective of that this is what I see the issue being; He's scored 29 and 26 goals, 55, 56 pts both years. Great numbers for a young player He's also been the beneficiary of playing with some talent (Bo/Vanek was a big part of his success year 1, Petey year 2), he's not really a play driver but rather a great complimentary player His defensive game needs work His skating needs work His comparables from his agent will be guys who are more 'play drivers' than complimentary players, and thus his agent will want that type of money JB will be concerned that, while Brock has shown a great ability to finish, will he continue to get better, ie is he a 25-30 goal player, or can he be a 40-50 goal player? His agent will argue the latter, JB will want to wait and see. As a GM you're always happier to pay after the fact, agents these days want players to be paid on potential. At this stage, tying up Brock for $8 mil is not worth it imho. I love the kid, but I honestly am not sold that he's a 40-50 goal player. Its odd because his numbers show he could be, few players score like he has in their first 2 years, but I still have my doubts because of his skating. JB will want to pay him like a 25-30 goal 55 pt player, and that's good and fair. The challenge is, his agent clearly will want him to be paid more like a 40 goal / 85-90 pt player that he "may" become. He's not worth more to this team than Bo imho. He should get slightly more than Bo given salary inflation. If they can't get that done, then give him a bridge and let him prove it out.
  4. Yes, I don't see him as Kelser ish in his ability to use his linemates, but his play is less creative than we'd like to have on the second line. Having a playmaker on that line would enhance our second tremendously.
  5. Sure, but saying things that are obviously wrong to anyone who's passed grade 8 level math, makes you look like an idiot
  6. But didn't Dumbass say they don't have cap issues? Youngen clearly didn't do well in high school math
  7. I agree with all, I am a hard pass on Caufield given size and average skating. IMHO to play at a small size in the NHL still requires you to be an elite skater. As for play drivers, I don't think Boeser is really a 'driver'. He's a finisher, great complimentary player but not a creator. As good as Bo is, he's not really a creator either, I mean players that create opportunities for all the players on the ice, we lack that. Right now, we have Petey and QH. A guy who can make plays off the wing is what we need. That makes Bo better, it makes Jake better, and takes pressure of Petey and Boeser to be the guys all the time. Bo is developing and will continue to add facets to his game we don't expect, he's just that good and driven, but I think we need another top 6 who can create, so hockey IQ and playmaking ability are tops on the list for me.
  8. I’d be more than happy with a shot at Dach, Krebs or Podkolzin. I’d hate to be the guy having to make that decision though!
  9. He’s an average skater at best. He is a terrific scorer, but he’s small. Look at the nhl playoffs, small guys who are shifty and fast have trouble, we don’t need a one dimensional player who can’t contribute if not scoring and is not mobile/fast enough to create space and time and not have size. He’s not a “play driver” he’s a complimentary player with high risk of not being effective at the nhl level given the above. His bust potential is too high relative to his ceiling vis a vis other picks at #10. We cannot afford a bust this draft, and again, his overall game ceiling does not make him standout vs his peers at the same pick. Hard Pass
  10. Hobey baker winner doesn’t project as only a third Line centre. He has more talent than that, it’s simply where “he’s slotted in because of our young depth”. The two names you mentioned Boeser and Pastrnak are not reflective of most late first rounders. Most don’t even make the NHL. As a result, even if he’s at worst a third line center with hands and a competitive fire we’re better off as we have a solid NHLer coming for certain. Ps Ryan Kesler was only supposed to be a shutdown Third line center as well. Would you trade Guadette for Gaunce? Because finding a Gaunce at 20-30 is a lot higher probability than finding a Boeser or Pastrnak
  11. Markstrom’s save % was .911 as an FYI. Nilsson actually helped their team vs hurt it. So placing any blame on him is misdirected. Not that he is better than marky or didn’t deserve to be moved, we made space for Demko and he was inconsistent here. That being said, he was a bright spot for Ottawa as he found his game. Whether he can continue that and be consistent over a full season is to be determined
  12. Yes. He found his game in Ottawa, but did nothing for us. It seems he’s better the more he plays.
  13. Nilsson was a respectable 11 wins and 11 losses last year on the crap Ottawa team, with a gaa of 2.90 and a save % of .914 those are solid numbers over an entire season.
  14. It was to make room for demko who got hurt. JB can’t predict that. He was right to make Room for thatcher
  15. No because in a year he’s worth more than a late first rounder. I don’t understand this obsession with picks picks picks!! Just constantly trade for more picks! Never develop a player, if he’s not ready day one as a superstar make a trade and play roulette! Dude this isn’t a video game where you just keep trading players until you have a team of 90+ on NHL 19 and easily beat the computer
  16. Was glad to hear they want the best player available and not go for position. It will really anger the trolls here and on hockey forums who want to blame Benning for taking his “guy” now lol
  17. Interesting article here. Makes me kind of sick to read and be a canucks fan after this, if this is how our billionaire owner and his family treat people. Sickening https://www.thestar.com/amp/vancouver/2019/05/28/at-aquilini-owned-blueberry-farm-we-lived-the-saddest-part-of-our-lives-says-one-temporary-foreign-worker-of-15-who-allege-poor-working-conditions-cramped-accommodations-intimidation-and-threats.html
  18. This first round is going to be fun to watch. Every mock draft, analyst ranking I see, has a different order after the top 2. It really is going to be an interesting day!
  19. Every player is different. Each player has parts of their game they need to work on to make it to the nhl unless they are just “that much better”. Whether that be time to get physically bigger (OJ) and adjust to the speed and physicality or to learn to process the game faster (JV, AG) each league can offer different benefits and weaknesses. It’s up to coaches and player development teams to sort out where a player will take the next step developmentally. The AHL is a good league for players to learn NHL systems but it’s also not the most effective for highly skilled players. There’s a lot of “journeymen” who don’t have high end skill / process the game well on many teams. This ends up limiting the offensive development of players imho. Personally, I think the European leagues are better at developing offense, while the AHL is better at developing two way players, goalies and defensive dmen.
  20. Very well put. And a real vet and leader would accept his game has fallen off but he can contribute in other ways and work his tail off to set an example and teach the kids. Instead Louie whines about his ice when he was gifted so many chances despite his play. I think the whining is now why he’s going to be moved or bought out. The canucks have never allowed that type of me first attitude in their room and they have always been about character and team building. I’ll be very surprised to see him back next year and if he is, he’ll be quickly traded, in the press box or in the minors.
  21. Most have a tough time learning to skate backwards, that’s a lot of it as well
  22. Does that mean its not going to be four players on the puck in their own dzone now? damn!
  23. I agree on Karlson, he's wearing down. Consistently injured over the last 2 years and just doesn't have the explosiveness in his game that he used to, which is scary because he is still putting up points. That being said, he's going to drop off a cliff mid next contract and it will be an anchor I agree. I like Meyers, he would add some stability to our right side. I don't expect him to be a star, but he's certainly better than tanev, would allow tanev to have less pressure / ice and therefore, probably stay more healthy and be more effective. I like Skinner alot and Ferland alot, the others meh. We also need to make sure we get Tryamkin back imho
