  1. This team reminds me of a team able to play AVs hard and fast style, but has more bite and size. I hope green takes a page out of that book because our cup finals team was one of the most exciting fast paced teams the Canucks have ever had. I remember watching them during the reg season and how they could just step the game up to an extra level when behind, and could come back, and when up they would hit the accelerator and go for the jugular. This group can be better given the depth imho.
  2. Benson is actually highly regarded in the oilers system. He’s actually been developed the “right way”, unlike most of their young players. Pretty much a ppg in his first full year in the AHL, he’s expected to push for a spot this year and at worst see some spot duty. He’s a good prospect for them.
  3. Actually playing with McDavid could revive him. He was frustrated playing 3rd line mins in Calgary. He could be a very good add for Edmonton. I don’t understand what Calgary would do this though
  4. Billionaires don’t become billionaires by wasting money
  5. If OJ can become our Roman Josi, I would be ecstatic, that's the player I see as most comparable to his style (minus the hitting, although Josi is no overly physical but he can hit).
  6. I'd argue they were tough to play against, they sure tired out alot of dmen in their day, you couldn't get the puck off them, knock them off the puck in the corners. While they didn't impose themselves physicality on other players, they were still very tough to play against because it tires you out chasing and hitting to no effect.
  7. And Tyramkin and Juolevi and Madden (not that the latter 2 are 'tough' but talented, and Madden is gritty), going to be some great Colorado / Canucks playoffs series coming. An old rivalry re-ignited, hopefully it will be our turn this time.
  8. Really? I didn’t know that last bit about it being a nerve issue. Interesting.
  9. 23 year old dman who has a chance of being a regular. actually it’s highly unlikely that a 23 yr old dman will be a regular if he hasn’t shown it yet. Also, poulliot was an 8th overall pick. Had better totals in junior and better numbers in the NHL at the same age (games and points), was 23 when we got him. It’s actually a perfect comparable - a project, yes and so is honka at this stage that’s the point. Dallas is talking about waiving him guy. My “idiotic line of thinking”. You seem angry about someone showing you how your opinion is not a strong one. Smh
  10. I’d leave our the Elton John and go with hard rock Hell’s Bells Welcome to the Jungle Rock you like a hurricane
  11. The dude was benched for a boatload of games. He’s Probably Poulliot 2.0 “lol” he’s now a project that either a team finds a way to improve his game or he’s AHL / Europe fodder. Just because a player is drafted in the first round doesn’t mean anything. He’s 23 turning 24 this year and is basically showing like Gaunce did for the Canucks. Good AHL stats but can’t show he can do anything at the NHL level. He’s also 5’11” 180 so if he’s not producing offence he’s not doing anything for you. “Lol”
  12. I really see three alternatives, you’ve listed or implied two. 1. He stays and plays well, ups his value and someone in need of depth says ok once all teams know their cap situations. Any team who’s not trying to reach the cap floor will wait till their roster is set to make a deal for a guy with a 6 mil cap hit. 2. A team that needs to hit the cap floor (ie Ottawa) and is happy to pay someone 3 mil to get 6 mil of cap hit. 3. Take back equally bad cap hit but that doesn’t help us and in that case you may as well keep him as a depth guy, PKer, utility player.
  13. And tbh he saved us from getting Lucic. It actually helped us
  14. Wasn’t Honka the apple of the eye for so many Canucks fans? Just goes to show, no one here can evaluate talent as much as they like to think they can. And the simple fact that not all first round picks turn into stars. People never seem to look around the league and temper expectations. If a Canucks first rounder flops, people complain about Benning etc, rather than realizing it’s more common to flop or be an adequate NHLer at best, vs being a star. This is actually why Benning and co deserve MORE credit, they seem to have been drafting higher probability hits in all rounds than most. If we can get him for scraps sure, but he’s a 23 yr old project. Likely AHL or Europe fodder at this stage. Schaller straight up might work. Dallas is going for it, Schaller could be good bottom 6 depth for them.
  15. Or even Ohlund, he wasn’t a fighter or mean but he could sure hit with the best of them.
  16. You got Beagle double shifting bro....I know he's in good shape but this isn't wed night beer league
  17. Ducks are going to be a lottery team - they are going to be top 3 worst imho - Lafrenniere is high probabilty
  18. What I'd "like" Ferland Petey Boeser Miller Bo (C) Pearson Baer Gaudette Virtanen (I like this line with Baer as the 'vet' leader and also a two way responsible skilled guy to help these guys find more offense - he can play the tutor role) Motte Beagle Sutter (A) (Late in games Sutter can slot in to the 3c to protect the lead, Gaudette slides to 4RW) Leivo/Goldy Edler (A) Myers Hughes Tanev Benn Stecher Biega/Fantenberg Marky Demko What I "expect" Ferland Petey Boeser Baer Bo (C) Pearson Pearson Sutter(A) Virtanen Motte Beagle Leivo Goldy Edler (A) Myers Hughes Tanev Benn Stecher Biega/Fantenberg Marky Demko
  19. The good thing is Bo sets a bit of an internal cap. Much as the twins did. While Boeser may get a bit more given cap inflation the Canucks will point to Bo and say exactly that. I suspect it will be 4 years at 5.5 (same as Bo) and we still have one year of control before UFA. He’d be smart to do that as he’s playing w Petey and will rack up points, the cap will increase, and his next payday will be long and a lot of money. Not that 5.5 x 4 is not a lot of money to play a game you love for a living
  20. I agree but also agree that Babcock should legitimately be on hot seat. I live in T.O and there has been legit criticism given the team he has and that his claim to fame was he was “the best coach in the NHL” / highest paid as well. On Tim and Sid (who I love) post the leafs exit this year, Sid made a great point that resonated with me. It started with the fact that Babcock was paid based on his past success and the assumption that he is the best coach in the NHL. When you look at the Leaf’s roster, sure they hurt a bit on D, but they didn’t have a horrendous group, just not all the right parts. But they have Reilly, and some decent parts, and then of course up front he has an all star top 6, and arguably when Kadri was there the best top 9 in the game. Sid then suggested, if you are paid as the best coach in the NHL and can’t get a team with that level of talent, regardless of their holes, to buy into a 2 way system to make up for the imperfections, are you really the coach everyone believed you to be? Think about the teams he had in Detroit, no holes, just stars in all the key positions, then he’s coaching team Canada which coaches itself. The questions Sid raised, which I think is valid, was is Babcock as great a coach as people thought or just a decent coach who was fortunate to have great teams built for him to work with? Perhaps the inability of a talented leafs group to play a system that will win in the playoffs is showing he’s not as great a coach as people assumed?
