  1. Yeah, Pearson contract at this point was an overpayment but JB didn’t want to lose him in FA. Sutter is made out of glass and will more than likely be on the injured list but the 1 yr contract is what he deserves after 6 yrs of collecting a paycheque.
  2. Yeah, hope he finds some normalcy from his injury
  3. Clickbait - EP ain’t taking no offer sheet; I would argue, Matthews or Marner would be more likely to take one to leave the Laffs cause it seams to be starting to get stale in the center of the universe (more 1st round exits ?).
  4. Is there where Weisbrod and/or Gear earns there $: contract negotiations ? Still wondering about Weisbrods role as AGM ?
  5. If he retires, the Canucks will lose the use of the LTIR option; good chance, he stays on it for the duration of the contract.
  6. The issue with rules & rule makers - human nature.
  7. Lol, always wondered where he fits and how much of the blame/credit should be his ?
  8. Carolina, like the Canucks with goalies- are always making sure they are drafting a RHD in every draft.
  9. Always wondered what is Weisbrods' main duties as AGM ?
  10. I get it - you don't agree with my POV and as you deleted parts of my post to fit your response - is not surprising. My point and the timeline I am focusing in on is the last two years - were the team didn't have a first round pick; and those picks you mentioned were all chosen prior to 2020 (2019 was the last year we chose a 1st round pick); also all those players you had listed are either on the brink of graduating into the NHL or are already in the NHL. As I stated in my other post: I get the logic by JB - in choosing to win with THIS CORE; and as EP & QH will be signing there deals - there is a good chance the Canucks will be competitive during the tenure of their deals (great time to be a Nucks fan). In a cap world, the only way to build a cheap & talented depth is through draft and not having these first round picks will eventually affect the prospect cupboard. Luckily, for the Canucks, JB is good at drafting and some of these late round picks might (actually) turn out (?). Of course, you can argue that there is no guarantee with draft picks - but it is all about the percentages and a 1st round pick has a higher probability of making the NHL than a 7th round pick. Waiting on the paper bag or LE emoji - so predictable and crickets (Lxxxx).
  11. If the main club is sucking and with JBs', it is just a short drive to watch the future, if Green is unwilling to play & showcase the future.
  12. Adjustments - whether in game or game by game, is where the coaches earn there money and is what separates the great ones from the rest. As for draft picks - I agree, that the draft is the cheapest way to acquire players from these premium positions and (also) to build up the teams (cheap & talented) depth. Really hoping the Canucks will find the balance between drafting vs the expensive route of FA or Trades; and with the farm team close by, it would be nice to see more draft picks or actual prospects in the roster rather than depth call ups. As for the signings, it is nice to see JB handing out cap space & term to players heading into there prime rather than overpaying for the great intangibles past there prime types.
  13. Good points; and hoping for a great season ! Due to the cap a team has only so much money to spend and the Nucks chose to spend on the forwards. Given the roster construction, the forwards will need to get involved to support the D and this is where Shaw comes in - really looking forward to watching a Canucks team that doesnt need to depend on great goaltending to win or doesn't get hemmed in when the opposing team is utilizing an aggressive pressing system. Perhaps a good approach to roster construction is to implement some of what Carolina is doing: drafting alot of RHD or defenceman in general and developing these premium positions: goaltending, (which Clarke has a handle on), RHD and Center.
  14. Good points but I don't I agree with your coaching opinion - imo, it is there job to put it altogether on & off the ice due to the very structured nature of pro sports. Ofcourse, we can only speculate: as to what Shaw can deliver but he has a proven track record: when it comes to developing defenceman(s) and setting up defensive systems. Most of your complaints were under Green & friends; and there re signing, I didn't agree with (but I differ to JB on this one). After, all the addition, I am expecting more from Green & the rest to put it altogether (?); and if this goes wrong - would more roster tweaking (in a cap world) fix a flawed system on the ice? If the roster buys in & clicks with the coaches then (good chance) the team will do well; and with some luck: by avoiding any major injuries, this roster can compete. Also, (imo) JB took alot of risk this year cause he wanted to win with this young core rather rebuild a new one. Alot, of things will have to go right but JB has atleast assembled a solid roster; as for the d core, some flaws can be mitigated by a strong defensive system - looking forward to seeing Shaws' system in action with this group. About Schmidt (pardon the pun), (imo) he is a talented player but he is a system dependent player: in Vegas he thrived but under Bamuers' tutelage he got exposed/struggled.
  15. Just wondering: how would you had built the defence or roster, if you had the same circumstances as JB, in the beginning of the offseason; would had hired Shaw or stuck with Green & friends ? Not sure how you ended up saying the D core is bottom 10 ?
  16. Yeah, been diving into both teams progression (mainly, for the purpose of my interest in comparing Sakic & Yzerman to each other & there peers). In JBs' case, there has been alot of anxious & disappointing moments during his tenure (especially, in the offseasons) but it has also been interesting to see him evolve - hopefully, he wins with his core. I do really enjoy the roster tweakings (from a fans' POV) but I would rather see them continue to improve the staff, scouts and etc moving forward cause having a (winning) system in place will mostly likely overcome any future personnel loses in key position(s) or in the roster. Tampa has been winning cause they do alot of work in the back ground and they spend money to improve there leadership group & support staff - so far, the transition from Yzerman to Brisebois has worked out. Imo, player acquisition is just a small part of the equation to winning a cup; and this offseason, it seems was a blessing for the Canucks cause they seemed to had used it to identify were they needed changes & improvements. The roster moves during this offseason seems to indicate an owner, management group and staff that is working together - GCG !
  17. Didn't read the threads; but JB & company has figured out that the 5th to 7th rounds are where legends are created and will continue to trade overhyped lottery tickets to clean up past mistakes and bypass the traditional approach of player development. Kidding aside (?), Trades & FA is the owners' preferred method of roster building - so the fans, better get used to reading about (hyped up) late round gems; and hoping JB continues his draft mojo. Overall, I dont really blame this approach (for now) cause JB has drafted a young core and he (also) wants to be competitive with this young core rather than trading them away for futures to make a run with the next young core due to some set internal time line being employed/followed. It is an exciting time to be a Canuck fan right now; although, I don't really like the Canucks trading finite picks for the present cause it voids the team of cheap & talented depth to compensate for the high salaried players - but I do get the logic of competing with this young core. It seems like a familiar version of the Gillis era - but JB has the added ability to hit on draft picks (even in the late rounds).
  18. These teams are doing great, I dont really see any problems; and isnt Dubas into analytics ?
  19. Sakics' analytics department disagrees with your assessment(s) of this trade. Kidding aside: I do agree, that this is one trade were I think he acted from a position of need - Av's are in win mode.
  20. Yeah, I remember reading an article on analytics and how it is most affective in sports were there is a lot of 1 on 1 match ups: baseball. Perhaps the variables & formulas has improved; and let's see how successful Seattle can be in creating a contender/championship team through the money puck approach ?
  21. You are reading too much in the comment (try reading the whole thread) and it has been clarified, if you read my post afterward - Hogz did what EP did by earning his opportunity from training camp; unlike Lias (ofcourse, it can be argued that Lias just did not click with the staff/locker room when he was with the Rangers - who really knows being outsiders but he has another opportunity with the Kings - wish him well).
  22. I agree - players like these should be drafted or signed as FA caused the acquisition & cap cost are too much; and there is no guarantee the player will perform - ofcourse, there will always be some exception(s). Good chance, a (desperate) GM will fall in love with idea; just hope, JB will pass on Eichel cause in a cap world there is only so much room.
  23. There will be alot of challengers but Tampa is still the two time champ - it will only get harder for Tampa but the team is loaded & well coached.
