[Rumor] Brandon Sutter re-signing in van
ShawnAntoski replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
A player made out of glass like Sutter has no place on the roster that JB has (currently) built but on the coaching staff/support staff there might be a fit or he can just walk and be some other teams great intangibles player. -

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Conor Garland

This is always a concern; and a great GM will be aware of this - hopefully the Schmidt situation would had taught him (and the staff) a very important lesson or two moving forward cause from Schmidts’ perspective he is able to compare from his time in Vegas (a perennial contender) & his time under Greens’ tutelage. Last years down season wasn’t so bad now with context cause only through the hard time can we truly expect our still evolving GM & coaching staff to grow. -
An offer sheet still has to be signed by the player, and in this case EP; if he signs one then he really is not keen on staying as one of the main piece in the young core. JB and his team has to learn to sell the their vision to these type of players: that they will be willing to stay & sign deals that are team friendly. It is one thing to acquire a very talented player - keeping it all intact for an extended period of time with cap flexibility is what separates the great GM’s from the rest.

Hoping, JB can sell the roster he had built to a player like Getz: a former first line player that can still produce on the ice and actually mentor the core from actual experience as being one of the best at his position in his prime. A low cap hit & short term deal like what Perry or Spezza had signed would be ideal for a player at his stage & age. My only concern with Getz is his durability. -

Yeah, the Canucks took all the risk in this deal cause a down season (in the foreseeable future) is not really an option; regardless, I am excited to see this roster perform; OEL to not become an LE 2.0; and for Green to do his part (Green & Friends is the one X factor that I will be watching intently but the addition of Shaw based on his past accomplishment(s); especially, in player development offers some hope that the staff can put it altogether). Really hoping to see how Bones & OJ will develope under Shaws tutelage cause the performance of these two as cheap (but talented) options/depth, will allow the team some flexibility with the cap. -

Maroon has won three straight cups - JB should had just signed him as a good luck charm to mitigate/counter the Canuck curse that seems to rear its ugly head at the wrong time.... Edited from Montour to Maroon. -
[Rumor] Brandon Sutter re-signing in van
ShawnAntoski replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sutter is made out of glass; and hopefully, this rumoured re signing is for a position in the coaching staff. Hopefully the deal is very similar to the rumoured deal that Schenn is getting cause with his injury history he will just be a waist of cap - time to move -
[Signing] Avalanche re-sign Gabriel Landeskog
ShawnAntoski replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I somewhat agree to the theory, the 9 million asking price was mainly used to buy Sakic & Landeskog time to agree on a figure & term - he wasn't really going anywhere. 7 is lower than OEL cap hit; anyways,, it will be fun watching games against a good Avs team rather than a rebuilding one. -

Very same deal that Crosby and Mackinnon tends to sign: high value with an additional year or two to lower the annual cap hit. Good on the Avs - it seems we will be going through them in the West; personally, I like watching the games against the Avs. -
Just have to wait & see; and I hope so, if the rumours are true ? Perhaps, our version of OEL was Schmidt - speculating ofcourse cause nothing was ever made public about the reason(s) why he asked to be traded. Hopefully, one day it will get cleared up or not - but it doesn't really matter; and just like with JV, it is just best to keep moving forward. Despite, the potential long term cap risked - I still cannot wait till training camp.

Glad the Beagles or Rooster types are being replaced by the same type of player that are heading into there prime rather than paying for them afterwards. Luke Schenn at less than a million for mentoring reasons is a good move as well. -
[Signing] Capitals re-sign Alex Ovechkin

Good on the Caps; OV earned it; and the Caps fan should be rewarded with the chance to see him break some records with the Caps ! -
[Rumour/Speculation] Luke Schenn returning to Vancouver
ShawnAntoski replied to AV.'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
These are the type of deals a 30 plus complementary type players with great intangibles should be getting but JB is very generous with Aquamans' $. I guess, JB had to try that way of rebuilding - moving on. -
[Report] Canucks G Holtby To Be Bought Out
ShawnAntoski replied to babalu's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I agree - how the roster is looking and despite the potential cap issues in the future - this roster plus a possible FA (due to the Schmidt trade) will ensure that a good chunk of EP & QH signed years will hopefully be competitive ? FA opens up tomorrow.
