  1. Depends on the context of the deal and the people involve. Imo, if the flat cap continues for more than two years due to forces outside of the NHL, the salary gap between the superstars and complementary players will only widen. For now, it seems the days of a great intangibles bottom six player getting term & cost are starting to diminish (?).
  2. We will just have to wait & see - but they seem very desperate and it is somewhat thick of them to be asking for assets (based on the rumours), for a huge cap relief. Any deal for (a regressing & overpayed) OEL should involve Schmidt and an asset from them or retain salery for the whole term; who knows, working with Shaw might re invigorate him ?
  3. This rumour just can't die - it makes no sense in a flat cap world with that contract; and imo, Arizona has to add alot of sweeteners to rid themselves of that mistake. Perhaps OEL & A FIRST for a cheaper & great locker room player in Schmidt
  4. A few more days of reflection for JB before he goes shopping - hopefully, this time he has a budget and will be shopping with a full stomach.
  5. Thanks for the context. i only saw him in the playoffs and he looked likea solid (young) goalie. Hopefully, he does well and cements his reputation as Deteoits' goalie of the future but the (short term) contract seems like a prove me type deal (?).
  6. Spending cap and finite assets for a player that doesnt that won’t really move the needle - soft player.
  7. Would be interesting to see how he performs with Detroit: is he a goalie who benefitted from a better coached team with (also) a better roster (like Schmidt) or will he be exposed in Detroit ?
  8. With the flat cap, hopefully JBs’ days of handing out retirement contracts to great mentoring players or bottom 6 players with great intangibles are over ?
  9. Will they be a candidate for the recapture penalty or Weber goes in LTIR long term ?
  10. Great and hopefully JB continues his mojo - by grabbing a falling player that he actually wanted.
  11. Yeah, if he has decided to go better to trade him now than later; and hopefully JB can pull it off - fingers crossed. All options have to be like looked at when it comes to Schmidt
  12. Yeah, could had left Myers unprotected too cause (good chance) he was going anywhere since Francis had already mentioned that cap space is his first priority.
  13. D was a mess under Baumer - let’s give Shaw a chance with the D before any major roster tweaking; and hopefully he can convince Schmidt to stay for another year.
  14. Yeah, that would had been a good line with a Lind as the setup winger ?
  15. Francis seems to be doing the opposite of Vegas - a team that is in a non hockey market; and a bad start would had buried that team with no fanbase. Imo, Francis is acquiring these big tickets as tradable assets later on.
  16. The Canucks have a good core and he could be a part of it; imo, the trade request rumour turned up when the resigning(s) occured. He certainly has a good perspective on what a good coaching staff can do. You might be on to something or perhaps it's the weather ?
  17. I remember getting heat from some posters about this issue; and I wonder what was the issue that made him want to go after one season ?
  18. Only a few days left, till the drafts !
  19. This is his FA year, I wonder which team gives him his retirement deal ?
