(RUMOUR) PHI to expose Voracek for expansion draft
ShawnAntoski replied to RWJC's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah, just like the Canucks and the perennial lottery winner with our expansion cousin - Seattle will always be attached to Vegas (McPhee vs Francis). -
Yeah, 200 + plus pages of posters slagging JB or other posters
-
Yeah, the Cinderella runs tends to be a momentarily blip up and a veteran GM & coaching staff will recognized it for what it is - a team that got hot at the right time (this years Habs & last years Canucks).
-
If JB gives the Yotes anything other than LE or 7th with no salary retain - the Yotes are still laughing. Boston GM seems to have some sense atleast. The longer the he stays there the more pouting he will do; the more desperate the Yotes will be and perhaps add better sweeteners to rid themselves of that ridiculous contract & player.

I wonder if we can fit him and OEL - instant contender ! Kidding aside - pass ! -
Baffling that this thread has 211 pages - his contract is toxic waste but the side discussions are somewhat entertaining.

Yeah, Wallstedt seems to have alot of hype going for him right now; and will have to wait & see if he fulfills his billing - perhaps JM 2.0 ? Only saw him in the WJC and he wasn't able to carry a loaded Swedish team. -

It seems Hollands' tenure in Detroit just got tale; and both the team & him mutually agreed to separate. He had a good run though - 3 cups. Also, good take on the Sedins. -

The whole question was theoretical and the purpose was to create a meaningful discussion among fans but it has (obviously) triggered a few in the forum instead. -

From there playing days alone, JB & Yzerman were at different levels - Yzerman was the Captain of a two time cup champion (just like Sakic). As GM’s, it is really hard to compare both (right now) cause they both inherited very different teams - Yzerman inherited two good building blocks in Tampa; and his tenure with Detroit had just started, whereas JBs’ plan is still on going. Perhaps let’s revisit this in a couple of years and see how further along both teams are. -

Yeah, the team Yzerman inherited compared to JB were very different - Tampa was tanking and the Canucks were contenders during that period. In Detroit, it seems the owner & team president has fully bought into Yzermans’ rebuilding plan. Unlike, Tampa were he inherited soild building blocks from Lawton (Hedman & Stamkos); in Detroit, he seems to be starting from scratch by trading away (even youngish assets - Mantha) for futures. With the owners & management fully buying in, how this plan turns out will be all on Yzerman and it seems to be a challenge he relishes - will it add to his reputation or will it be tarnish somehow ? At this point, the Tampa cup wins have only reinforced Detroits’ decision to bring him home but (imo) it will also take some luck for his plan to fully workout. We will just have to wait & see for now. -

Good take - just a theoretical question and glad they retired as Canucks. -

Not sure about moneyball and Yzerman but it seems that he is very rigid with his plans - which means he is willing to be accountable of how it ends up. My second point about Yzerman - is that he is only willing to commit if the owner buys into his plan; otherwise, he does something else. As proven, with the results in Tampa and potentially with Detroit (his second rebuild), they will either be a bad team or a really good team but never a middle of the pack team; and with the added bonus of cap space. Based on hindsight, (good chance) the Canucks will be a middle of the pack team with a blip of success here & there to keep the fan base engage cause (imo) the moves that JB has been making, were moves made by a GM being asked by an owner not willing to go through a traditional rebuild - the opposite of what Yzerman is doing in Detroit. -

I would be real surprise, if the Canucks would be willing to WALK away from resigning him - in this market no chance and they overpay for him to stay. -

Sorry, I meant to say the Mantha trade cause at 26, he could had still been a part of the young core he is building (perhaps as a productive complementary veteran player type ?); and based on the rumour of Bertuzzi being shopped at 26, it seems to indicate that his cut off age is 26, as to when to trade a young(ish) asset for maximum return - if the players' age doesn't match his (projected) compete window. Ofcourse, as proven by the Canucks young core there will blips when the team makes the playoffs - did last years playoff success indicate the team was ready or did the team just get hot at the right time (just like Montreal). With hindsight, last years run was probably more indicative of a team that got hot at right time rather than a team that has put it all together on & off the ice; and this past disastrous season further proves the team & staff was not ready. The (current) offseason tweaking off the ice, hopefully will bear good fruit on the ice - fingers crossed ! Imo, the addition of Shaw (based on his reputation) can potentially have a bigger impact on the ice than any roster tweaking this offseason; and I hope he can convince Schmidt to stay for a year to hopefully increase his trade value. Also, the teams' current cap situation gives JB no leverage in trades - except for finite draft picks and unknown lottery tickets like OJ (hope he doesn't become the Canucks version of a Sergaychev trade). As for Yzerman, he only seems to commit when the owner is fully on board with his vision. On implementation, he seems to have clear deadline(s) and timeline(s) but it all, only works if an owner has fully bought in and is willing to be hands off. Both the Tampa & Detroit owners were willing to give Yzerman full control of the team; and in Detroit they also have a team president that he knows & fully supports his vision. If I am a GM during a rebuild, my biggest moves would be to strengthen the teams personnel off the ice (especially, the coaching and scouting ranks), no long term commitment to cap space with mentoring type players, focus on playing & showcasing the future and continue to build the core & depth through the draft by trading assets that doesnt fit my timeline. -
[Discussion] Offseason Plan

Yeah, in the real world a title doesn't guarantee you anything but for some with a title - it means it is there way or the highway (very entitiled indivduals). Imo, there are multiple forms of leadership and bull$&!# can only take you so far until the unbias results will reveal all. From the outside and supported by the rumour of Schmidt skipping the exit interview, means he is unwilling to stay; and I don't really blame him cause he knows what a good coaching staff can do to a bunch of cast-offs. -

If it is Stevie Y, just look at what he is doing in Detroit but the twins will shut it down. With JB we are living through it and the NMC would not make it possible. If the (Gillis') NMC was not there, good chance Yzerman will try to expedite his rebuild by shopping them - just look at what he is doing in Detroit by selling off Mantha (a young asset that could had been part of his young core). If the Twins were miraculously traded, the team would have had no choice but to do a real rebuild and not a bunch of retools by spending to the cap every year; and I get it cause it takes the support of ownership & (to a lesser degree) the fans for Yzerman to successfully implement his version of a rebuild. Forgot about GIllis' tendency to hand these out - good point. My question was theoretical and it was based on what Yzerman tends to do when he is evaluating a roster - a real full rebuild, just look at what he is doing in Detroit by selling of (young assets) that are eating up a good portion of there cap. -

It was a theoretical question, if Yzerman is our GM - relax. I get it and your (somewhat) overreaction just proves my point that there was no chance that JB was even allowed to consider trading the twins; and I agree the contract alone would make any trade prohibitive or impossible. -
Been saying that it would probably be prudent to get a system in place first before any roster tweaking cause besides the unanswered questions on the roster there are also a few with the coaching staff - hopefully Shaw can make a difference (?).
-
Hope so cause (I would argue) in the past, Green probably had a say on personel as well - really hoping that Shaw can make a difference and be given a chance to establish a system before any roster tweaking(s) takes place.
-
I would add the state of flux with the coaching staff, due to there inability to create and establish a system were our current roster can be competitive in - without the need for elite goaltending to win. Really, hoping Shaw can deliver.

Yzerman, really doing a full rebuild by selling expensive & young assets (even the young Mantha), while he builds his (own) young core; and saving his cap to add when his core is ready. Ballsy but he is able to sell his plan to the owners & (to a lesser degree) the fans. Something to ponder: if Yzerman, was our GM - would he had traded the Twins to expedite his rebuild ? My guess: Yes.
