  1. Hope this is only the first deal that will lead to a much longer term deal. If this coming season is lost (hope not) and Green is still playing the vets - a short trip might offer a better hockey with the chance to see the future.
  2. Imo, a (good/great) coach will be able to maximize a roster regardless of talent and (as I stated before) a coach that (tries or consistently) rolls four lines will have a (game day) roster that is engaged from the top to bottom (this coaching tendency is what I think enabled Gallant to turn a bunch of (so called) cast offs into a success in Vegas). From my POV, your statemnt is just an excuse for an inexperienced and/or uncreative coach; I get it, the ink is dry and hopefully Shaw can address were Green & friends are lacking (?).
  3. Imo, a team needs a combination of both size and speed but both have to have about the same level of talent & (more so) IQ, to be effective together. Off the ice, (and as important is) a coach that can put it all together cause in Pro Sports - it is always about the pre & in game adjustments. Looking at Tampa, they seem to always roll four lines and (imo) a coach that has a tendency to shorten the bench is only, either very inexperienced and/or not very creative.
  4. Good point; now that Shaw is on board, it would probably be better to work on the d core - if the Canucks are trading away (finite) draft picks and/or unknown lottery ticket(s).
  5. Yeah, probably be a cap dump and I wonder if Draistl & McD will still be there is a few years ?
  6. Wow; seems to be following the same script as the Laffs and Vegas series for Montreal - 1st game beat down; and this series is just starting. Imo, next two games will determine the series and which staff/team can make the neccessary pre & in game adjustment(s).
  7. Good take but you forgot that gift in Game 3 from lady luck.
  8. Moving forward - I will be borrowing your theory when watching the draft. Have you only applied this theory on defenceman and how did you discover it ?
  9. Yeah but to the media types (who's opinion matters when it come to these types of questions), being an OG 6 club in Canada puts them in the special status club. In summary, the (unwritten) bias is real.
  10. Yeah, Baumer should be left to marinate in the bottom of totem pole (for a looooong time) after getting a real shot - he earned his benching/demotion with flying colors. We saw how they both performed under Baumer and hopefully, Shaw can get back or increase there market value from Baumers devaluing. For now, keep both but JB should (actively) be shopping both.
  11. Interesting theory; but checked out a few random HHOF and there birthdates fell outside of your High upside zone but (the great) Mario was a hit - probably more tweaking with your theory is needed. Bure - March 31 Sakic - July 7
  12. He just needs the minutes; hopefully Shaw can give him a better structure to succeed in and (also) more chances to earn his minutes.
  13. Good take and the (top of the) draft is the cheapest way to acquire these players; and 5 OA would had been better than 9 OA (three loser points against the Flakes caused the Canucks 4 spots). Ofcourse, there are alot of cases were Norris trophy winners had been drafted outside of the top 3 - hope JB can continue with his drafting mojo and keep all his draft picks cause only through the draft can a team continue to build up cheap (but talented) depth.
  14. Yeah, I have also not really followed him after he left but his SV% did go down to 918 to 904 but overall his number were very comparable to his last year with the Canucks to his first with the Flakes - so I guess, he was the same ? Imo, we got his best years (leading up to FA and under Clarks Tutelage) and he got the most money from the Flakes - just glad it wasn't the Canucks overpaying for past performance this time and his vacancy allowed Demko his opportunity.
  15. I get your point cause his uptick in play did (mostly) coincide with Clarks' arrival; and I am not minimizing Clarks importance to the team but from my POV, JM was also a (very) motivated student that was hoping to cash in big in FA.
  16. Imo, the main thing that brought it all together for JM was the focus of hitting a homerun in (perhaps) his last big FA. Ofcourse, Clarke helped but JM made sure it happened. Just glad the Canucks wasn't the team that gave him that albatross for 2.5 years of elite level goaltending. Holtby was an overpayment due (mainly) to his resume (imo) and he was mainly brought in to be a hedge, if an unproven Demko is unable to deliver. A 2 million per year for a year/two would had been a better contract but moving on.
  17. This is another area where JB can improve on - knowing when to move on and I get it, Edler had a NTC to veto any trades so any trades did not happen cause he wanted to stay (?). Edler has been paid to be a top pairing d during his tenure as a Canuck (from my POV) and if he gets paid in the top 3 of d core (again) he will expect top 3 minutes. Preferably, the Canucks moves on from him and give those hard minutes to an incoming youth. I am tired of watching highlight reels after highlight reels of Edler when the other team scores - he is only getting older, slower and that point shot has been MIA for awhile now.
  18. Yeah, Montreal being this years team of destiny got hot at the right time heading into the playoffs - that MAF gaffe late in game 3 was a miracle and it cost Vegas that series cause prior to that Vegas was on there way to a 2 to 1 series lead. Wonder if they can keep the hot/lucky streak going vs the Champs heading into July ?
  19. Yeah, just like Poile and other long tenured GM'S they were given the opportunities to stay due to there teams gradual improvements over time - so they each earned that opportunity by making alot more good decisions vs the bad. From the outside, it seems Aquaman is trusting JB to bring the Canucks there first cup (?).
