The agents for those great intangibles players will be calling JB first and good chance his pro scouting departments will support him (?).
-
Ditto, that is also what I got of that presser and with Greens re signing - no need to tweak the system just more roster tinkering; and with a flat cap it will be at the cost of unknown lottery tickets for (supposedly) proven vets that seems to have a HIGH RATE OF UNDERPERFORMING for the Canucks - I wonder what is cheaper, give an unknown lottery ticket a legit chance or getting the same results with a bunch of expensive underperforming vets.
-
Let’s see if Green will play them or let them marinate off the ice.
-
Ditto - just here to have a discussion about our favourite team and not be lectured.
-
Good points but aren’t one of the coaches duty - to maximize the potential of a roster despite the talent level or is it the other way around ?; and based on yesterday’s presser with Greens resigning - it seems to be the talent level, so more roster tweaking are coming at the expense of unknown and cheaper lottery tickets such prospects & picks. Just hoping for a balance approach in this offseason, by not mortgaging too much of the future for the present.
-
I get it, very familiar with the Matthews draft. Perhaps this is the year (?); were the percentages wont matter for the Canucks.
-
Yeah, proof is the pudding Team record under Green and Friends tutelage (except Clark cause his goaltenders is probably a good reason why it is not as bad) https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=2023
-
Edler will fill that role admirably, if Baumer comes back; not sure a rookie will be allowed to get into the line up in the NHL level - except if the rookie manages to force his way into the lineup.
-
Ink is dry - enjoy the Green & Friends Show for the next few years and with different cast members but the same script (hopefully not)
-
Yeah, the yearly results are abysmal - other than watching JBs’ draft hits and anxiously waiting on them to take the team to a future cup, the results has so far been what it is; but as a few had stated the ink is dry & our whining are very much like being a backseat driver - just be supportive cause it takes time & they are professionals. Still hopeful as a long time fan, for this (mostly young) core to deliver - pls while I still have some years left ! Since 2014-2015
-
Yeah, no guarantees in life but a big percentage of generational/impactful players are drafted in the top 3 but as I’ve stated before the overall talent of a particular draft has to be highly considered when discussing these topics. Good take - hope JB continues his draft mojo !
-
Imo, a rebuilding club (like the California teams) would be going for a top 3 pick; whearas, the Canucks would be more of a mid level bottom feeder due to the usual 5-10 draft positions - hope JB, continues his draft mojo & some teams goes off boards.
-
Good take, seems to be case with the fan based - supportive types & misc. Ofcourse, this is just a forum (hopefully not an echo chamber) and most are here to vent & show there support for the team we ALL SUPPORT - although, once in awhile the cockroaches/trolls will come out to join the party.
-
Good take - I understand, the buck stops at JB but (based on the Canucks’ website) it is AGM Chris Gear who is in charge of contracts or seems to be the teams capalogist. With all these mismanagements in FA or trades, I hope the team will look into re vamping the pro scouting dept.

[Report] Canucks sign Travis Green to contract extension
ShawnAntoski replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Yeah, more of the same (hopefully not cause as Schmidt had proven the system a player plays in matter). Since Green began his tenure as coach the teams yearly record speaks for itself and I am not sure more talent will matter cause he will always revert back to what he knows and a misused/miscasted players will just be wasted - but the re signing says a lot hopefully this time the results will be different ? i guess JB is enamoured with Greens potential and it outweighs the results so far ? -

Yeah, we will find out what aggressive means this offseason - seems to mean more roster tweaking and nothing with any strategy adjustments if the same staff is brought back (?). How about Schmidt under Vegas’ compared to his play under Greens’/Baumers’ system (perhaps his d partner will also need to be considered as well when evaluating his first season with the Canucks). -
I get it but we (can only assume) what factors Aquaman are using to make his decisions; ofcourse, some leaders will do what they think is right regardless of any backlash and others will be influenced by advisors or etc... Guess, we will see what they mean by - aggressive in the off season (hopefully it is a balanced approach of not mortgaging the future too much for the present). As a longtime fan, it seems we had been stuck as a bottom to middle of the pack pretender for awhile now but the young core provides some hope of a potential cup contender.

Now Official - Canucks Lottery pick from 9th position
ShawnAntoski replied to grandmaster's topic in Canucks Talk
Imo, the one factor, most posters seems to missed is how the season ticket holders are affecting Aquaman decisions when it comes to how he runs the teams - from the outside, it seems he values there input and there seems to be no appetite with that fan base when it comes to tanking or doing a full rebuild. Signing FA(s) to fill the roster (like in the Gillis era) is a known & accepted process as we had seen during Gillis’ tenure but a full rebuild/tanking has a bad stigma to it - in this market. Ofcourse, there is the Edm or Buffalo examples of the failures of tanking but there are also a number of teams that had been successful with the tanking strategy and has won the Stanley cup: Chi, TB and Pits (to name a few). My point, some teams & there fan base are more accepting & understanding of the tanking or rebuilding strategy in a losing season and this market are not as accepting - losing culture. Perhaps being so closed to EDM has somewhat given this fanbased a one sided view of the strategy ? Despite having one of the worst record since 2014 - with Aquaman always spending to the cap and JB not drafting higher than fifth - the yearly results has been so underwhelming -
Good take - especially, the last statement. Ditto, hopefully the staff will continue to evolve; and based on the press conference with JB & Green - the issue is the lack of talent (how about, Schmidt who was a different player in Vegas vs in Greens’/Baumers’ system). If there is a group of fans, ownership would listen to: it would be the season ticket holder and based on the staff re-signings, it seems there is (enough) season ticket holders & players that still support the staff. Anyways, at the very least - this forum will not be boring (?).
-
I get it - ultimately comes down to the person(s) and the application of the rebuilding process and so far, hindsight or the yearly results had be underwhelming. Ofcourse, with hindsight it is easy to criticize the period and with some context it the same issue can also defended but the yearly results has no bias - just results; hopefully, moving forward the decision makers can continue to evolve and learn from the past (?).

[Report] Canucks sign Travis Green to contract extension

Just my take on the interview and the general sentiment from the conference.- they will be aggressive in the offseason to increase the talent in the team, as per JB and Green agrees. -

Yeah, listened to his interview and he believes the lack of talent is the issue - not the strategy employed. How about Schmidt, a player that looks very different from the player we saw in Vegas; so Iam expecting more roster tweeking and hopefully, they would take a very balance approach in the off season. It seems enough player(s) had his support and the season ticket holders are also wanting him back. -

I wonder who is in charge of pro scouting ? -
Francesco Aquilini owes Canuck Nation an explanation.

Good point, I like him as owner (as well) cause he is also a fan of the team - hope they can balance there approach in the offseason to not mortgage the future too much to appease the present cause as we had experienced, it has taken the team, awhile to transition from that Gillis era due his to poor drafting (would rather avoid the mistakes during Gillis tenure - especially, with the flat cap - and I hope Aquaman has learned something from it as well); good thing, we had JBs' drafting to atleast have something from being one of the worst team in the NHL during JB & Greens tenure. Been a fan since the 80's and this offseason with this young core will make this (one of the most) important offseason in a long time. -

I understand that owning a team is a business but a (big) part of owning a pro sports team is fan relationship - it seems from the outside that this part of business has been lacking but we don't know if there has been some consensus taken from the season ticket holders and there expections.
