Yeah, I would had preferred Rafferty over JC but the Staff chose to go with JC.
-
Yeah, Rafferty is still an unkown lottery ticket that will play his @$$ of once he gets some minutes; good chance he leaves, would had been nice to see him play more than one game before he leaves.

[Rumour] Sam Reinhart open to a trade back to West Coast
ShawnAntoski replied to a topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah, Schmidt needs a different partner and a different d coach.. -
Yeah, Sabres should count themselves lucky to be getting something for two expensive, overhyped & underwhelming players. Kidding aside, those players are leaving when they hit FA and the Sabres will only be losing leverage the longer they wait - very similar to the Barrie situation with Colorado. Canucks should wait a year when Reinhart is a FA - why give the Sabres any assets for one year of Reinhart.

Meaningless All star game: time for players & Green to pad there stats Canucks 5-4 Boeser Over -
Good points, but as proven by those players you listed it doesn't take them long to adapt themselves in the leagues and the support or mentoring (in today's pro sports) can also come from coaches or etc, not just overpayed bottom 6 vets that are good at faceoffs (faceoffs are important but it is only one part of the game). I would argue, going with the Laffs model of filling there roster with former first line players to cheap & short term deals: Thornton & Spezza 700k each a year; and actually mentor the core from real experience as former top line players with the added bonus of being more productive on the ice as well.

Yeah, the messaging from the front office was always very cryptic with some ambivalence; would perhaps had been better if Aquaman sold the rebuild himself - I am sure he can afford a marketing firm to sell it to the public and good chance most fans will understand. Morale victories don't get the team a Mcd or a Crosby
-
Yeah, the ownership should just come right out about a rebuild or set the expectations for the year cause most fans (I assumed and the non vocals) understand that in a losing season the only real benefit to the team longterm is have an opportunity to be able to insert a hight end talent into the roster without overpaying for it in assets & cap through FA or trades. Unless ofcourse that ownership is always pushing to make the playoffs for the $ (which I understand), is probably why they didn't transition the rookies in until the team was officially eliminated - it is after all a business but there are alot of examples of teams succeeding and not but that will mainly depend on the front office & a willing owner (with some luck in the lottery) to implement a successful rebuild.

Good on Miller (should be our Captain) and he should be pumped - 3pts last night. Imo, last nights game, seemed like an All star game - with no real benefits to the team cause the players know it is all (meaningless) morale victories and padding stats time during these games. Drafting a high end talent will benefit the team more in the long term; ofcourse, there is always the chance of the player busting out and the team going the Deadmonton or Sabres way but each situations has to be (each) looked at with some context to see why they had failed or are still failing in the Sabres case. Lots of cases were teams had recognized a losing season to transition the roster from the old to the new and are still being rewarded with those high end talent still keeping the team competitive. The players have a short memory and will forget this season; hopefully having a new staff with fresh ideas will be hired and a top 3 pick will make this losing season not seem so bad.

Jonah Gadjovich makes his canucks Debut tonight!
ShawnAntoski replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
Yeah, he seemed anxious in his first dance and played a whopping 3+ mins of ice time. Hopefully, he gets in & plays alot more in these last few games and gains some more game experience from actually playing in the ice. -

Rooster became a (highly paid) turkey during his tenure with the Canucks - so sad for the team - and I wonder who will get to signed another one of JBs' very generous retirement contract - an older with no shot Edler & an injury prone Sutter ? -
Yeah, I remember all the hype (too) between those two Fins but it would had been really hard to unseat Matthews at #1; The Laffs, Flakes & Deadmonton (if they won it would had been five 1st OA picks in a 6 year period and they drafted McD the year before - imagine having those two with RNH & Hall as well) were all tanking really hard to get Matthews (or the Fins) and it seems the Canucks were too but I remember the team going in a mini streak later in the year to finish on a high note. Although, if there was no lottery and just based on the standings, the Canucks would had chosen #3; the Canucks dropped to #5 (the biggest highlight was when Deadmonton moved down to #4 from #2) and both the Jets (moved from #6 to #2) & Bluejackets (#3) moved up. With hindsight, the two teams that moved up, probably were only able to enjoy a few years of good play from Laine & PLD but in the end - Columbus will probably be the only team to end up with a player (Roslovic) in the whole deal (assuming PLD decides to leave WPG). At the very least, the OJ saga is just starting and his cap hit is peanuts compared to most of the players in the top 5 in that draft; hopefully, OJ cements himself as a solid member of our d next year and the very limited opportunity he got this year was enough experience to give him an idea of what he needs to work on to stick. Preferably, the team will have a new staff by then and all the FA's in d moves on.

Despite, the obvious that both are bottom feeders, Ottawa (early on) chose to play & showcase there future; whereas, the Canucks chose to continue playing the vets - with the same results in the standings.
