Well said... Imo, Aquaman just needs to realize that he is clueless when it comes to winning a Stanley Cup and should just hire a competent FO, that he can leave alone to run the NHL club. Right now, he still believes that he knows best and will continue doubling down, on the roster he helped built, whilst, some/most of the rebuilding club(s) are ready to turn the page to contend for a cup, instead of a playoff spot. Anyways, to Aquamans own peril....

Boudreau, inherited a team from Carlyle - led by the same core of Getz & Perry that won a cup with Pronger & Neidermeyer, a few years earlier. Plus, Teemu, Saku, Bobby Ryan, Bonino and a young Fowler. Basically, that Ducks team already had a winning pedigree and they clicked with Boudreau, after almost 6/7 years with Carlyle.

To the OP: MAINLY, the same roster and very good chance, it will be the same finish or playoff fodder - another year with no Stanley Cup or top 3 prospects, to build on. Life of a team intending to be stuck in NHL Purgatory, whilst, the rebuilding clubs are turning the page to contend. Ofcourse, their will be exceptions, the ever rebuilding losers: Ottawa, NJ, Buff and Ari

[Rumour] Canucks interested in John Marino

I think you are missing the reason, why they did it. Even one of the top 3, prospects will give them something to build on, for their next run at the Cup. CHI already has 2 cups, in the past decade and I don't know too much about the new GM but they do SEEM to have higher standards there vs in Vancouver - ZERO CUPS and if he doesn't deliver he is gone, no matter how smart he thinks he is cause the result(s), is in bias. -
Let me know, if you need more hint

Hint: his name sake starts with aqua___. I am sure, you already know the REAL architect of the mess, the Canucks are in.

[Rumour] Canucks interested in John Marino

Let's see who will be more competitive, in a few years cause CHI won two cups doing the same rebuilding strategy vs the ever retooling Canucks. How about when the rebuilding Yzerman, traded a 25yr old Mantha cause he was about to get paid ? -

Chi did it with Dach & Debricant as more recent examples - do you think they got full value ? -

That is why, other teams make an emphasis to invest some of their lottery tickets, on RHD.. -

Is it a playoff caliber D ? Perhaps, good enough for a similar finish like last year or just be a playoff fodder - still no Cup, unless of course they get REAL HOT AT THE, RIGHT TIME WITH THE RIGHT MATCH UP. -

This rumour is still alive ? NJ traded Ty Smith plus a 3rd and pls double down, on the mess: two 1st, Hogz & Bones for Marino & his cap hit ? -
[Discussion] Do You Have the Stomach For a Rebuild?
ShawnAntoski replied to Warhippy's topic in Canucks Talk
Words vs Actions - Aquaman must really think the longtime fans, are not paying attention. The playoff chasing strategy is really, getting tiresome and I really don't see a Cup coming, as long as, chasing a playoff spot is the strategy. Anyways, to their own peril cause it seems apathy, has started to set in for some long timers.. -
Thanks for the walk back, in memory lane. The pre cap years, certainly did create a league that was split between the big spenders/big market and the rest vs the parity we now see. Pitsburgh is the other team, that dominated the 90's or pre cap decade (imo), cause of how they built around Lemieux and post cap around Crosby. I remember how the Penguins, where financially in trouble and how Lemieux rescued the franchise and led the transitioned from him to Crosby - by mainly, targeting the Crosby draft (very similar, to how they targeted the 84 Lemieux draft). The Lemieux presser to rebuild was very similar to Yzermans' in Detroit and both had an owner that was committed (in Pitsburgh case, it was Lemieux who supported Patrick). As for the Canucks, the best ever squad, was built up by Burke & Nonis and it took a decade to build up, a one & done cup roster. Anyways, I am mostly just looking into the Cup champs post Cap and the formula to build a contender or a Cup champ, is obvious (imo) vs the playoff chasing strategy coupled with an incompetent &/or malleable FO, is a recipe for disaster; and the unintended consequence is a team stuck in NHL Purgatory.

I have a different take, based on what I can remember and researched. I still argue, Yzerman is doing what I deemed as a rebuild: consecutive years of drafting top 5, weaponizing the cap, selling on whoever and not committing long term cap on players, above a certain age. Plus, he has the full support of Illich, who signed him longterm vs what JR & Allvin got from Aquaman. Perhaps we can agree, that Holland had his own version (which seems familiar to what the Canucks, had been doing - a retool) vs what I think, a rebuild should be: Yzermans' version. A few years, of pain but a committed team, with the right messaging and some creativity, it MIGHT LEAD TO A Championship or more. Good points and discussion
