  1. Something I predicted actually happened. Guess I need to go buy a lottery ticket or start a psychic hotline
  2. About freaking time. Take all the money we raise from the sale of these drugs and put it into mental health, safe use sites and drug addiction programs. This is and always has been a health issue, just like tobacco/nicotine and alcohol, it’s way past due we started treating it as such instead of a criminal one that punishes those who are suffering and most in need of help.
  3. It’s not a problem solely occurring in this tournament either. The NHL could benefit from a rule change allowing a challenge on 1 call per game. I don’t want hockey to become like the NBA where the game starts and stops constantly, so I’m wary of too many challenges and timeouts, but I do feel there’s enough evidence we’ve seen to warrant 1 additional challenge for each team on a penalty call in any hockey game. Refs mess up, they’re human beings, we all make mistakes, but adding this to the game prevents glaringly obvious total misses from changing the outcome of a game.
  4. Looks like as I expected this call generated a lot of conversation. Here’s my penny’s worth. This call was egregiously awful. Like absolutely the worst possible call I’ve seen in a very long time. Why this tournament doesn’t allow for referees to review video of a call they made in regards to a penalty is beyond me. Moving forward I think each bench in any hockey game should get 1 challenge on a goal and 1 challenge on a penalty. That would enable most game deciding wrong calls to be eliminated and the game to be more fair. I also think it’s important to have less European referees calling games. There were many questionable calls in tournament games when it came to the US and Canada playing against a European team. Without this terrible call Canada wins gold, it’s really that simple and I don’t think it’s arguable. That said, the call in overtime was the proper one to make and I have no objections to it. There’re been other instances of awful calls effecting the outcome of games in past tournaments too. It’s important to remember that as passionate as we get about hockey, especially when it comes to our team Canada, it is only a game for entertainment purposes. Next year we will come back with a vengeance to reclaim our throne and title.
  5. I’m horrified at this completely despicable vote. It really does show an old boys club. The reputation is well earned. I am also encouraged that instances like this are both being reported on and also generating public backlash. It wasn’t that long ago this type of instance was chalked up to boys will be boys and was acceptable behavior. We cannot create a better society until we stop the abuse of other human beings in any form.
  6. I hope that we can both find peace along with our friends/significant others some day. Or if not peace at least being able to live with it. I’m so terribly sad to know that they also were forced to go through these atrocities. I don’t have much that can bring comfort to people in these situations, but I’m sending a big virtual hug over the internet to you and the victims of these crimes. I also know there’s many more stories like this or even worse that happened to people who users here know. They just haven’t told you yet. We are evolving to become better humans, but this is one issue we have so much work to do on especially in Canada and BC.
  7. I think it might be saying the opposite. That he doesn’t want to give up a good player just for a higher pick. The amount of times he’s said we don’t want to take a step back reaffirms that imo. That said it’s definitely worded in a way where either opinion can be reasonably argued so it’s up to one’s own interpretation.
  8. Jays turning a corner? Kind of feels like it after the last 2 games. Hope it continues.
  9. SafeSport is going to be busy with investigations over the coming years unfortunately. I’m just glad that these incidents are coming to the forefront more and more so those responsible can no longer continue their abusive ways hurting others while hiding in the shadows. Just because something happened before doesn’t mean it’s right. These stories are showing there’s progress being made to becoming a better and safer society.
  10. The pandemic is definitely still here. It’s encouraging though that there were 52 less hospitalizations and 17 less deaths this week compared to last. I don’t pay any attention to case numbers because no one’s tracking anymore. I hope this downward trend continues and one day hits zero.
  11. Analytics has a place in hockey, it just can’t be used as the deciding factor in any decision. Otherwise you end up as Arizona or Toronto.
  12. My heart breaks for all of what Brock’s had to face already. No one should have to lose a parent so young in life. I’m always going to root for him whether he plays for us or not and long after his hockey career finishes. It takes a lot of love and support to raise someone as incredible as Brock has turned into. He deserves so much better then the extraordinarily difficult challenges he’s been given. Duke helped make our world a better place. Now that he is free from pain I hope he is able to RIP.
  13. How do you arrest hundreds in their vehicles? It was a logistical and practical impossibility. You’re right that they should have been arrested for those blockades, but how exactly is that to be achieved? Truckers keep our economy moving and allow us to buy whatever we want to. I support them, they are extremely valuable to our economy. I absolutely feel sorry for the increased costs in fuel that they’re getting hit by, but that’s the fault of greedy corporations deciding they need to make even more profit then the billions they receive yearly.
  14. They may not be big bruisers, but I feel confident we have at least 4 players who can and will be physical and are built for playoffs currently on the team. They may not all be here next year, but for the sake of this post let’s pretend they are. Miller, Schenn, Pearson and Horvat are all beasts judging by past performances. It’s always better to have more of these types of guys that can handle the style of hockey in the post season, but I also don’t think we’re a bare cupboard in that department either. You probably could also make a decent argument for including Chiasson, Ekman-Larsson and/or Lammikko (though he is unproven as of yet) on that list as well.
  15. You know after watching this series thinking back maybe no NHL team offered us anything for Markstrom and letting him leave was the only way to not pay his salary.
  16. My thoughts are with the Boeser’s during this extremely difficult time. May they find comfort and strength through one another. I’m glad he’s at home surrounded by his loved ones in his final hours. Don’t really think a contract is what’s on Boeser’s mind right now so I hope the Canucks give him as much space as he needs for as long as he needs. Money is never more important then family. My heart breaks for all of what he’s had to face in his life already. I don’t know if he’ll be here next year, but I’m always going to root for him wherever he plays. Incredible person deserving of so much better.
  17. I hope the alleged victim can find peace some day and has a strong support system to help her through the trauma. It’s heartbreaking to hear what she went through. That said we as a society and parents need to create better boys and men. Teaching them right and wrong and respect for others, especially women. This happens far too often, not just in hockey and it happens in Canada too. There’s going to be more stories to come. It’s unacceptable behavior. Like all reports on the subject it hits me personally as my friend was drugged and raped, but police didn’t believe her after a girl eyewitness said she was just drunk and there was no evidence left behind. I wish every day I had been with her that night to protect her. The only way we stop these horrific events is through education of the younger generation and there’s no better time to start then now.
  18. That we know of. I’m sure there’s more of these scumbags on other teams, we just haven’t heard about them yet.
  19. 2 minutes and 36 seconds is all it took to turn a 1-3 loss into a 4-3 victory. I’m not going to be forgetting this game for a very long time. Absolutely insane.
  20. Boudrias I think you’re wrong on this one. I do feel for Canadians struggling to get by as do most here I’m sure, but the protest wasn’t about cost of living if you remember the signs present. It was about yelling how much they hated our prime minister and vaccine mandates that the US had and we have no control over. Let me be clear on this: If they had just decided to protest every day on the capital lawn or in downtown Ottawa I would have supported their right to protest even if I think the reason is dumb. Blocking roads and borders with vehicles is just hurting themselves as well as taking our economy hostage. That is where most here, including myself drew the line. It’s unacceptable for anyone for any issue to do what they did. I’d say the same thing if O’Toole was in power and a bunch of progressives were doing the blockades. We can’t allow our economy to halt over any political issue period.
