  1. I definitely don’t want to, but if someone offers Bedard + you at least need to consider it. That said anything else and I’m hanging up the phone if I’m GM.
  2. Right now Russia is absolutely the enemy of the western world for obvious reasons. However, before the war there wasn’t that level of animosity towards the country. If you mean right this second that Russia is Canada’s arch rival then yeah I’d agree with you, but if you instead take a look at a longer time frame it’s definitely America for me. As for hockey Russia decided any player even close to the west shouldn’t play on their hockey teams anymore and as a result completely faceplanted when they did play. It’s no longer considered a hockey power house or rival in the sport. Using the sentiment at a hockey game as evidence of a country’s rivalry is completely oversimplifying things.
  3. The only trade I’d consider for Hughes is if it included Bedard. Trading the best defenceman we’ve ever had for anything else would be a really big mistake. Hughes is a very rare and special talent. I’d much rather have one all star then 3 or 4 great players. Quality > quantity imo.
  4. Definitely agree. We know we can’t keep everyone and I just feel he’s the one that is the odd man out. Most of our guys have a key role to play, but Boeser is just a goal scorer. That’s obviously not nothing and is of value to whatever team he plays on, it’s just something that’s easier to try to replace with prospects or free agents for a much lesser cost compared to what other guys do. Garland is a chance creator Petey is an elite sniper Pearson is a beast on the boards Miller is a game breaker Horvat is a game carrier Podkolzin is a power forward Lammikko and Highmore are high energy 4th liners Richardson is a face off machine Chiasson is a greasy goal net front presence Hoglander is up in the air and Dickinson obviously doesn’t fit. Even if we let some of the above players go, the most important roles either already have a key guy playing them or are so cheap we can’t find any extra cap from.
  5. That’s true, but I don’t know if I want him at $6+ though. Where do you see the cap relief will come from in order for us to upgrade our D? All Canucks fans pretty much agree we need to improve our blue line, but that costs cap space we don’t have, so where does it come from if not Boeser? The obvious names aren’t going to be enough with Miller needing a raise.
  6. Looks like a classic Embiid embellishment. I hate players that flop around just to try and get calls. So incredibly happy that Miami whupped the 76’ers.
  7. That used to be the case. Our arch rivals currently are absolutely team USA. I don’t think our rivalry ends in sports either, but that’s a different topic.
  8. We very well may end up trading Miller, but every team in the league is going to be interested in a nearly 100 point game breaker for a cap cost of $5m. Doesn’t matter how many players are available, he’s going to receive a ton of interest from any NHL club. Thinking otherwise is vastly underselling Miller’s value.
  9. I’ll cheer for him if he stays a Canucks and cheer for him if he gets traded to another team. He’s had a lot of challenges he’s overcome and had to persevere through. Managing as well as he has takes a special person to do so. I’ve loved him ever since he came here. He’s obviously a good guy as exemplified by the numerous stories we’ve heard and he’s done a lot off the ice for the city of Vancouver and all the Canucks charities. I’ve got no problems with him as a person. My personal feelings about him aside I just don’t see how he’s going to fit with our cap space problems, us needing an upgrade on D and having a very high QO. If his QO was 6 I’d have no problem keeping him, as a contract starting with a 5 is good value and has the potential to be a steal if as you’ve mentioned he improves his areas of deficiency. There’s no doubt the problems he has are correctable. However at the same time he’s had 5 full seasons with us and played 324 games in his career. Is it realistic to expect him to suddenly improve enough to make him worth a 6+m multi-year contract? I think that’s a pretty big risk to take while having our problems on the backend needing attention. The money’s got to come from somewhere to upgrade our blue line. As for Eddie and any other poster badmouthing him or his character and defining him as worthless they can go jump in a lake as far as I’m concerned.
  10. If you watch the games you’ll see that statement isn’t true. They aren’t average, not anymore at least. It used to be Canada, US, Sweden and Finland as the teams that basically steam roll every other team in contention, but that’s changing as each year other country’s players and programs continue improving. It’s very entertaining hockey if you took the time to watch it. Definitely better then some of the playoff games we’ve already seen and I always enjoy watching Canada’s team in any sport. Our arch nemesis is the US, always has been and always will be. Russia and Belarus being expelled was the right thing to do. They shouldn’t be allowed to compete in any sports until the insanity in invading Ukraine ends. I hope you’d feel similar.
  11. Oh no, I’m sorry to hear Hope you both get better soon! Belated congrats and welcome to her from another now fellow Canadian! Always happy to expand our evergrowing society Hope she loves it here as much as we do!
  12. At least there’s the world championship games to watch/record! Canada plays Slovakia tomorrow.
  13. 3 reasons: 1) He’s cheaper. 2) He scored 5 goals and 21 points in the last 20 games he played in. 3) Had an xGF for of 54.7 with only xGA of 46.7 Compared to Boeser who: 1) Costs 1m+ more. 2) Scored 8 goals and 15 points in the last 20 games he played in. 3) Had an xGF of 41.1 and a xGA of 40.6 Boeser also got 17 of his 46 points on the PP while Garland got only 3 of his 52 points on the PP. So to sum up: Less cost, more effective at even strength, more points without getting valuable points producing PP time and he upped his game at the end of the season when it mattered most. If we had to choose the choice is pretty easy for me, it’s Garland over Boeser.
  14. Definitely picking Garland over Boeser if we had to choose. I love the guy as a person, I just don’t see how we can re-sign everyone. Someone’s gotta be moved in addition to the easy choice guys like Poolman and Dickinson.
  15. Realistically he’s worth around 5m given the season he had, but with his QO at 7.5m there’s no chance we sign him at that low. I’ll be shocked if his number doesn’t start with a 6. Just gotta hope his very understandable personal issues this year means he bounces back next season. That or try to trade him and hope another team has the cap space to fit him in. We don’t have much leverage in this.
  16. USA ended up squeaking out a win against Austria in OT. They’re probably happy coming away with a point against the Americans. Some of these games have been surprisingly close. Finland beating Latvia by only a goal. France beating Kazakhstan by a goal. A real shocker when Great Britain took Norway to a shootout after Norway was up 3-0 in the 3rd period. Norway pulled off the win, but it was a nail biter. Much more entertaining hockey with these country’s teams getting better.
  17. What a game against San Jose. Absolutely wild. Feels like this club is finally turning the corner with offensive production, which has been their Achilles heel this season. They’re also doing it without Gauld and White who haven’t been anywhere close to last seasons level of play. Having a more spread out threat to score can only pay dividends as other teams can’t cover everyone.
  18. I know the playoffs are on, but is no one else watching the Hockey World Championship? Canada had an early scare against Italy in the 1st, but now 2-0 with a much better start then last year. USA currently losing to Austria 2-1, 3rd period left to go. That would be a big shocker. Other country’s hockey programs are catching up to the big ones.
  19. Did anyone else see what I saw on that last goal? The puck was sliding towards the goal, but Bunting was there in time to stop the puck from crossing the line. Instead he shoved it into his own net.
  20. I’m ok with a collective orgasm from the leaf fans and media if they win the series. It makes the coming defeat all the more painfully crushing.
  21. If I had to pick other then the Canucks, my order of preference of the Canadian teams: Ottawa Senators, Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens large space Calgary Flames gigantic space Edmonton Oilers outer space Toronto Maple Leafs
