  1. Did PA or JR not say how much they liked Juulsen playing with Hughes a couple of weeks ago ? That was before free agency though . Could he be in for another look this preseason ?  Esp. if Myers is moved witch i think is highly unlikely before the trading deadline  . Then only if we are way out of the playoffs

  2. The Sedins are the perfect example of why teams don't like to give up on high draft picks . Early in their careers many fans wanted to run them out of the city . It wasn't until they filled out and got strong enough that their talent really started to shine . Maybe 24 or 25 ish my memory is kind of blurred here

  3. What if both Benson and Michkov somehow drop to 11 because they are small wingers and that Russia thing . Would you take Benson over Michkov as a safer pick [ is he better all around player] or is the separation in skill between them too great ? This is kind of my dream scenario

  4. I know the Canucks need more C&D and to get bigger  but the two I hope most for in 11 days are Michkov or Benson , Ep and Miller will be taking all the faceoffs for the foreseeable future so does Benson really have to be great at taking faceoffs . I would see Miller taking all the faceoffs for Benson same as he did mostly on the 649 line . Benson could be wing or center depending on the matchup .  Michkov drops past Washington to 11th than you can't pass on that talent unless you know something that really really frightens you . If they are gone than I would choose either their best true center available or the the most promising D the Canucks like and this is the only time i could see them trading down a few spots .

    Here's the issue with this.

    Gilbert Brule.

In the lead up to the 2005 draft, Brule was being compared to Crosby and people were debating if his skill put them in the same class and whether or not Brule should go 2nd in the draft.  Obviously it didn't happen as through the latter half of the year others picked it up and Brule actually never really grew any larger and had a mediocre combine.

Benson reminds me so much of Brule, Schroeder etc.  All that skill but.....just something missing.

Don't disagree with you but about Brule . I do remember Doug Mclean saying on CBC one night That Columbus did everything wrong with how they managed Brule and one of his biggest hockey regrets . That it was their fault as much as anything why he didn't develop

  6. At the Draft what I am hoping for is first that Michkov falls to 11 and Allvin turns into George Costanza in a fire on his way up to the stage to belt out his name ! After that there are so many good players that could go in any order I would be happy with any of the prospects that keep getting listed top 13ish .More happy if out side of Michkov or Benson they play center or RD

  7. the only way to get out of the bottom of the league and Stay out is to Keep your top end Draft picks !!! you trade them away only if it puts you over top top Not into the middle !!! One year OK for the right price But year after year has to stop or be prepared for all the same conversations next year and the year after that and after that and........

Now trading away rounds 5-7 I have absolutely No problem with should be doing it Every year if it can improve anything

This may have been mentioned before, but there's a chance that whoever gets selected by ARI this year might not even report to the team. Who knows what the Coyotes will be or where they'll end up. I heard (Canucks Daily) that Logan Cooley (2022 1st) may not report to ARI and could sign with another team.

(e.g.) What happens if ARI selects ASP at #6 and he doesn't want to play for them? Does he get to choose which team he signs with (after X years)? Not sure how this works.

A nice scenario would be: Allvin, the Sedins and Petey tempt ASP to sign in VAN in a few years when they're ready to compete. (it's a big reach)

Not 100% sure but if he refuses he can  hold out years  till he is a free agent . 4 years same a someone going to collage or be redrafted in 2 years . kind of fuzzy on this one , I think it has happened before

Wouldn’t the Caps take Michkov? Russian connection. Next great Russian. All that PR stuff. Plus, the kid is a great player.

although I don't see the concerns as others do . Western countries  don't want to blame the Russian people for Putin and he wants any Russian  to make money outside of Russia as long as they don't break their contracts. That being said Washington might not want to risk having 2 first round picks in a row in the same situation . that's just how I see it but i really don't know anything about how it all works .I would really like to see him in a Canucks uniform if we are taking a winger in this draft !!! OK from all i have read I am having him first on my wish list now that we didn't win the draft lottery

  10. Hasn't every Russian born player dropped a fare amount the last 2 years will might this year be any different ?  Really hoping Michkov makes it to 11 and Alvin views him as BPA and is not too concerned about his availability in the future . I know any team above Van could take him but if he drops past Wash Maybe we ..............................

  11. This really doesn't make any sense ,Ok there's a rule so the fine is fine , Why can't the worse teams have voluntary training while the Playoffs are on ? first round all the better teams get to practice than second round 1/2 the Better teams and so on . This should change in the future if you ask me . I do understand the worry of the teams will pressure players to hang around so voluntary is hard But the fringe players who probably grew up eating and sleeping hockey would welcome any help in getting to get and stay at the NHL level . No ???

  12. Signing Miller and if we can get Horvat signed will change the narrative that we will have to trade away at the TDL this year to , if all goes well Maybe bringing in that Rental RHD at the deadline [ Just hopefully not for a 1st or 2nd round pick ]  . I do love this signing thought he would get a lot way more not in Van . OK now sign Bo !!!

  13. 1] Have bench door lock automatically or an indictor light if it is not locked while play is going on . No more stupid useless injuries because of it . 2] Make the puck over the boards not an automatic penalty . shouldn't be penalized if it is obviously an accident . I do tend to yell at the TV when this is called . 3] Let the linesmen call penalties if they see them .4] If an embellishment penalty is called the player should get an extra 2 if they call the original penalty . 5] 4 minutes for drawing blood . should have to be more than a nick . 6] With the size of the goalies now and there massive equipment the nets HAVE to be made bigger !!!  Not sure how much but bigger . 7] Not sure how this would work but it does drive me nuts that some teams get revenue sharing payments cause they can't get fans for their teams but than get top draft picks . If all the Canadian teams tanked and lost fans for a few years the league would go broke . Sorry but this to me  is unfair  and a kick in the teeth

Thanks it was nice to get some of this off my chest I could go on and on . I like a lot of the idea's and thoughts I have read on here so far . Great thread IBatch

    According to this thread…..
McDavid would be close, but Edmonton would have to add a bit.  Matthews, same as McD

MAYBE Makar, but he is still really young and inexperienced.

The only true 1for1, from what I’ve seen here, maybe prime years Super Mario or Gretzky

Maybe Orr before Quin took out his knee but he would have to play on his offside

  15. I thought it was a good draft . JL should be an awesome pick and EP2 looks good . Need to stop trading away second round picks in future .when was the last time the Canucks had first second and third round picks in one draft ? Doesn't happen often enough for me . I firmly believe better not to trade if you know you are getting the worst of any deal , it sends a bad message not only to the fans but to the other teams that you can be had . Allvin's  first big trade has to be a winner or not perceived as a loser or he'll be throwing  second round picks with every trade they do Again .  All i all a good day

PS...has anybody checked to see if there are any Quinn Hughes in next years draft ?

  16. The Canucks got a young player today that I thought would be long gone before it got to Vancouver's  pick . Very pleased with getting probably the best sniper from this years draft . Will be great to watch him turn into a pro here in Vancouver .  It was a good day ! Welcome Jonathan Lekkerimaki
