  1. No sure if I understand what you are asking . But if it is Don't draft because of other players from other years I would say TRUST your scouts to put the prospects in there appropriate draft order for there teams lists . All leagues seam to go in cycles for top talented prospects . It's finding the gems and spotting the fool's gold that it is the real talent of the scouting depts. Everybody always remembers the big misses but just expects the hits . I bet fans on other sites are still screaming about passing up Pettersson and Hughes and I think Pods will be added to that list
  2. I would say under this criteria for BPA it would go RHD , Center than LHD / winger and lastly Goalie [ just because they usually take 5 years instead of 2or 3 to make it ] . Personally I believe there are just way to many variables to define BPA when taking about similarly talented prospects .Very team will view it slightly differently and give different characteristics different values
  3. BPA every team see's it differently and so does every scout . they will each values things differently . No team has ever said after the Draft that they thought somebody they pasted up was better at the time . They will always say they valued them as equal or very close to it with other factors . Nashville brings along Defensemen extremely well so when they look at a " D" man they probably think his trade value will be higher than many other teams would . Many GM's appear to draft from the same league year after year near the top end of the draft . And don't get me started on " Wingspan " hahahaha although height , weight . birthdate [ Closer to 17 or 19 at time of the draft ] these things all play a small part in each teams BPA . Positioning would come into it if other things are equal [ No team is going to draft a left winger 5 years in a row under normal circumstances ] . With Jake's ongoing off ice dealings my next statement might sound off But Character seems to be very high on there determination of BPA . It is usually one of the first things stated when they take top end talent .
  4. I am sure Vasilli will have No problems on the ice or with his teammates Most seem to be have good character . Hopefully B.C. will be back to more of a somewhat normal state . So many wonderful things to do and places to go for a young man new to this country . Stuff away from the rink . I still laugh and think about how we thought about Russian Hockey players before and after the 72 Can/Russia Hockey series [ i was just a little kid but we did have to beat the robots from Russia ] All that being said if they are trading for someone new and all other things being about equal I definitely would not be opposed to adding another Russian player . Remember just because they would both be Russian there is nothing to say they would get along , surprises me how often people just assume they would . I don't like one of my neighbors and we're from the same Country OK OK I am not really sure he is from this planet
  5. Really seems like the exact opposite thing you would want to do if you were trying to get someone to stay on your team ? But maybe I just think like that cause I didn't grow up under there system of screwed up Gov't
  6. Not that I'm against trading the pick this year if the right Deal is there but weight till the 8th pick is off the board first encase something wild happens and the Player you never thought would still be available is there . Esp this year just sayin
  7. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't a player have to be 26 or older to get bought out ? Hopefully Jake Gets his life in order on and off the ice. I know nothing about his circumstance other than what I have read on here . Hockey wise if he knew this was happening could that not account for the seemingly backwards progression in his play ? I thought he was finally starting to show his potential the season before last .
  8. Day one of training camp I am sure Podkolzin is not on one of the top 2 lines but I wouldn't bet he is not there by the end of day 2 . I do see Miller on Petey's wing helping with faceoffs and personally I think he is way more effective there than as a center . But If Petey gets better at it or Pods becomes efficient at taking Faceoffs I think Pods-Petey-Boeser will be Canucks First line for years to come
  9. I see a lot of a young Trevor Linden [ his play and leadership OK not the scoring touch ...yet ] before he was switched to center in Podkolzin . Mostly from what I have read and the little I have been able to watch him play . Once they stopped treating him like a ping-pong ball over there he really started to set himself apart . The thought that he will only ever be a third line guy is non-sense . He was a top 3 talent in his draft year and will be considered one of the best draft picks the Canucks have ever made in a few years . at the very worst I see him as a second line player in his prime But once he gets some experience in the NHL I see our First line winger for many years to come . Only the coaching staff wanting to keep the Lotto line together decides how long it will be until than . I am so excited to watch him grow into a complete player and get to play in a steady environment
  10. Not sure enough has been made of the fact the Canucks had almost no real Practices in this short Covid season . Not saying their Defense would have been considered top of the league or anything dumb . But I do think right from the start they just never got on the right track . Schmidt I thought Played way better when he was on His preferred side ; Rathbone looks like the real deal . OJ looks like he will be able to play in this league after all [ really hoping for him he has had some tough luck ] . Harmonic had a rough start but looked way better as the season went on . Edler was forced into more minutes with this schedule than anyone could have wanted . I would like him back next year but at a reduced role . Hughes will be Great . not having Tanev showed where some work needs to be done , [ Big fan of Tanev hated seeing him leave most of all ] . I do think this group will look better next year with some time to jell on and off the ice . To your point Love to see any of the guys on your list here just not sure unless JB can pull a rabbit out of his hat that the Canucks can afford any of them until a bunch of their current contracts expire [ bottom 6 guys ] . what I have taken a long time to say is I think we have one more year of the Canucks #1 RHD being a Harmonic , Myers and Schmidt coalition
  11. I like any of about 11 players the Canucks could pick . I will be happy with trading this pick only if it is a real homerun . Some team screwed with the expansion draft maybe But I hate the idea of losing out on a potential future star for someone who just fits a role . Powers and Beniers will never drop that far but other than that it does seams to be all over the place . Not just on here but the ranking I've seen . Luke Hughes every one seems to think he is going to NJ but maybe the team wants a winger to play beside Jack instead . Than I can see him falling maybe to 9th
  12. AS I see it . 1. I like JB but he does seem to go sideways some times . He was new to being a GM when he got here so some things were inevitable I guess . Not using the Cap effectively when after the 100 point season was the anomaly not going to be the norm . Linden said Rebuild and shortly after he left . while JB kept trying to retool . Wished he would have gotten more draft picks not less as He and/or his team has been really good at picks . Not all home runs But some and lots of promising players . [ Hope to see some them mature in Abby . Utica was hard for me to fallow ] . and yes I think some of his bottom 6 signings could have been different but not all of them as some have suggested . 2. JB has done a Fantastic job building a young core . 3. JB needs to be a better communicator or find someone to help out there .that appears to be one of the things that Linden was very good at and I think should be replaced 4. Don't really like to talk about the good the bad and the ugly of the Canucks these last 7 years as most of you know way more than I do and Canuck management knows way more than all of us [ I hope ] . But it is nice to write out my thoughts sometime so thanks for reading . could say so much more but I will stop here
  13. Pods was top 3 talent when He was drafted . Has done nothing to disprove that . Biggest steal in that Draft . Can't wait to See him in a Playing in a Canucks Jersey . Only hope they don't start him off in Abbottsford . ya know New team Best Shiny New thing Butts in seats . Although I really can't see this happening .
  14. What if's ..... Canucks win Lottery ... Powers pretty much first overall everywhere I look except on here ? is it expecting maybe another Gudbranson ? Canucks need on the right side ? I see for 50 minutes a game you have Hughes or Powers on the ice or even Hughes and Hughes for that matter . Set for the next decade Canucks win second .... Now for me it gets so much tougher here . Beniers , Clarke or Hughes you couldn't make a wrong pick although most will say they took the wrong one or even trade down a couple spots [Staying in the top 8 ]
  15. I do like Clarke as a pick But if we win top 2 . I would have to take Power first and than either Beniers or Hughes for second and hard not to like Hughes . You could have a Hughes on the ice for 50 minutes a game Really hard not to want that , draft a more defensive RHD in the second and hope they can Draft another next year . Thanks . I read your stuff on here a lot agree with most of it just don't sign in very often . Many prospect polls and mock drafts have Clarke at 8 or 9th . On draft day many Dmen tend to slip a spot or 4 so I hope we can get him there or only trade up a spot maybe 2 depending on the ask
  16. Taking for Granted Jones is going to resign . it's not just what Benning would trade it's what the other 24 or so teams would be willing to give up that you have to outmatch . so whatever you think Benning should trade you might have to Just keep adding
  17. Awesome to read . Really hope he is given the same chance to do his thing as Hogs was last year . Next year is looking Better already
  18. Petty sure Columbus would be asking that plus next years first and maybe more . Would look Great on the Canucks Blueline
  19. 9th plus next years first just to move up a few spots ? What if a few injuries to key players Happen say Miller Demko and Horvat and we are Bottom 5/10 again next year. That is way to risky for me Maybe a 9th and third or B prospect . But I think we really need to stop trading away top picks until the Canucks are near the top of the league not the bottom . just my 2 bits
  20. I think the Canucks will make or challenge for a PO spot next year as long as Demko is Demko ! Biggest scare for me would be if he gets hurt . Holtby played Ok near the end and does anybody know if last year Helped or hurt DiPietro's develop ? Petey has to be Healthy and Miller is another level better as a winger than as a Center [ mostly coming out of Vancouver's end ] . I think both Schmidt and Harmonic had horrible starts but looked better near the end and I think Rathbone and OJ will become good regulars . Really hoping that Pods reminds me of Trevor Lindens rookie season when all is said and done . So I will only be disappointed if they get another top 10 pick BUT than they will have a Top 10 pick and I will be saying this again Next year
  21. Couple of thoughts 1. BPA who I see on Utube as compared what the scouts see over and over and getting to know the young players character . which I think changes a teams list within a closely grouped bunch of prospects . example . If a Kid shows No interest in wanting to come to your team do you draft him ? anybody remember Steve Francis and the Grizzlies [ that was extreme but I am sure it goes into factoring teams lists ] . I think teams take into consideration is he coachable or does he just have his way with the opposition [ make hay when on the ice against 16 year old's or the other teams lesser players ] I think that is the biggest reason for draftees who suddenly hit a brick wall when they reach pro levels . 2. Drafting for position ... again if players are considered by a teams scouting staff to be close I am sure Position becomes one of the main factors . I do hope that is only when they think the players are near even . 3. Because there are so many teams in the NHL now a third round pick is so much lower than years ago . the first pick is now around 65 so you might be looking at the 70th or 80th spot or lower. I would be trading any pick below the forth round to move up or for real assets as I believe the odds of getting that miracle 5, 6, 7 rounder are too great . but if you are using them please take Goalies and undersize players 4. Not all first rounders are equal ... the team making an offer sheet that is close to winning a Stanley cup is Not giving up nearly as much as a team near the cellar making that same offer .... 4 thirtyish overall picks is Absolutely No where near 4 [ top 5 or top 10 picks ]. It does surprise me that top teams don't use this way more often and not just on the best players. Not saying I like the offer sheet at all . it is like one team has to give up close to 4 second rounders and the other would be giving up future superstars 5. Every teams has Busts and Great picks just hope the busts are far and few . And the appropriate rated picks develop and become good players 6. thanks for reading . After a Bad season i love this time of year trying to piece together what the next few years the Canucks could look like 7. Love to See Powers , Hughes , Clarke or any of the Centers picked by the Canucks this year if they get the chance

    2C or 3C

Pods as Center ? For those not old enough to have seen Trevor Linden as a Rookie WINGER he was awesome to watch . He dominated scored 30 goals , Hit everything that moved .He would go into the corners and do what the Sedins did But by himself . yes the Canucks really sucked his first couple of years ....But the Canucks wanted that Big Center . Now it was Good for the Canucks but he probably would be considered for the HOF if he would have continued to play wing . So I hope the Canucks don't try to change Pods just to fill a need at third line center .
  23. Sorry But i really can't see why anybody would even think about trading a top ten pick for a 3 line center . I do see the Canucks as moving up the ranks next year unless something really bad happens to Demko so this might be the last chance to get a high pick for a while . If they win first or second picks there asking price for a trade would be Far to high for other teams as has been for all the drafts over the last number of years . If they did I would hope it would not go back below 5th or 6th and the add from the other team would have to be huge . Just my two cents worth . When Van did it for Bo they said right away that they had him as a # 2 center and future leader of the team Do you think in hindsight NJ wouldn't love to undo that one ? I was a big Snider fan and for a long time I kept thinking Van got taken in the deal Until I saw Bo Play
  24. 1. sign EP & QH to contracts that both sides are happy with 2. Ian Clarke signs 3. Front office gets bigger not smaller . love to see Davidson as president 4.Get another Schmidt type deal done before expansion draft 5. resign Harmonic and /or Edler at short term reasonable amounts 6. OJ continues to improve his skating 7. Van doesn't trade first round pick unless it's an out of the park homerun { Joe Thornton trade years back .just an example I know it wasn't for a 9th draft pick } 8. snoop around Buff and find out any chance of a Sam Reinhart deal that doesn't worsen our team in the deal . 9. Don't buyout LE and thus extend his cap hit unless it is absolutely necessary .just get it over with 10. buyout one of the bottom 6 who has the worst team cap hit compared to their performance try to trade at least one of the older bottom 6 vets 11. Make the Stick and Rink there main jersey ....I think I speak for everybody on that one !!! LOL but it is my favorite 12. Jake straightens his life out . 13. so many more things I could go on and on But the biggest is everybody get Vaccinated so we can get Fans back in the stands !!!
  25. On Draft day outside of the top 3 year after year don't most D men drop a few spots to skilled Centers and wingers ? I think one of the top D men should still be available at 9 [ Hopefully we don't drop any farther AGAIN ] . Would not be surprised at all if JB trade the pick this year hopefully not if we win a top 2 pick . Would 9th and a prospect be out of the question to Buf for Sam Reinhart or is that just a No Go ? I am hoping they draft one of the top D men this year if one drops to 9th
