  1. The wrong kind though - you want to have multiple selections in the first two rounds, ideally in both 2020 and 2021
  2. More than $10m of retentions comjng off the books next summer, cap going up, and this just a $500k increase on his current deal? You'll be waiting a while there kemosabe.
  3. Would love Gambardella as 13th forward, but I don't see Benning cutting a vet like Schaller for him.
  4. The Ottawa Senators are sad to see defenseman Dan Girardi announce his retirement today. After an outstanding career, he ends with 927 games played over 13 years, including playing in the first-ever NHL game I watched in person. We wish him well in retirement, particularly with his charitable work which one could argue will leave just as much legacy as his playing career: https://www.nhl.com/lightning/news/former-lightning-defenseman-dan-girardi-announces-retirement/c-309334350 After bugging them for weeks to arrange for Dan's demotion to the minors and subsequent cap penalty to be applied, the Senators remain grateful to the league's Executive now that we're asking them to retire Dan's contract and remove both the cap retention ($2.75m) and cap penalty ($4.5m) from our team page @Master Mind @thejazz97 @Salter @Jaku This, of course, may help Arizona as it frees up an additional $2.75m right on top of the season starting...
  5. ASSIGNMENT: The Detroit Red Wings assign F Greg McKegg to the Ann Arbor Wolverines. CALL UP: The Detroit Red Wings callup F Max Comtois and slot him into McKegg's former slot on the active roster. This is therefore the opening night line-up for the Detroit Red Wings @canuck2xtreme: DETROIT RED WINGS 2019/20 James van Riemsdyk - Jack Eichel - Brock Boeser Jakub Voracek - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Josh Anderson Jakub Vrana - Ryan Strome - Dylan Strome Anthony Beauvillier - Devin Shore - Jujhar Khaira Max Comtois - Jacob de la Rose Noah Hanifin - Darnell Nurse Quinn Hughes - Troy Stecher Brenden Dillon - Calvin de Haan Chad Ruhwedel John Gibson - Keith Kinkaid
  6. Here's an idea: rather than have each team with a different cap, why not change player contracts so that they all pay the same 'tax' - so if you play in Florida and pay 31.61%, and someone else is paying 49.49%, then the difference between the two is taken from your salary and given to the NHLPA. Then no players would have to pay for post-career care, no-one can complain that they're being treated unfairly, and if you choose to play in a state where the taxes are less, you're doing all of your fellow professionals a huge favor down the line. Imagine the amounts you could invest in training retired hockey players for new careers, or in supporting individuals in need, or in looking after players who were never fortunate enough to play in the NHL (career AHLers, that kind of thing).
  7. Had no idea the buyout window was closed as the OP still has the 2018 dates - you could always allow one move for a GM-less team
  8. You could be kind to the next GM and buyout Jamie McGinn: $6m owed over 2 seasons $4m owed in a buyout $4m owed over 4 seasons $1m buyout cap penalty Means $2m AAV saved, which would get them under if Buff comes back and may even allow them to keep Cody Glass up. I think most GMs would prefer the Commissioner team to run the GM-less teams like their own (barring trades and signings of course) so that the next GM isn't left at a disadvantage. Sorry, my own team doesn't provide me with much joy so I'm edging my way in onto Calgary now
  9. Calgary should have Buff put on IR, that would solve that particular problem.
  10. There's an obvious remedy if he does retire. Replace one old behemoth that no-one outside of Winnipeg likes with another that no-one anywhere likes: Dion Phaneuf. Hell, sign him now and give Buff a few weeks/months to make a no-pressure decision
  11. Since when do you have to have physically met someone to like or dislike them? I can't stand the sight of you and I don't think we've ever been within 1,000 miles of each other
  12. 17/30 GMs responded, so only just over a third of the league voted for it...
  13. Just when you finally start to appreciate the guy Something must be up for him to leave all that money on the table. It would allow the Jets to pay Connor and Laine, but after trading Trouba their D would be one of the worst in the league. It's already ropey as is.
  14. Turns out he's not signed yet with Karpat, but he wants a 1-way deal and Waddell isn't biting. Yet.
  15. Such a shame he signed in Finland, he's got the tools to be a good bottom six forward.
  16. As the season approaches, the Ottawa Senators continue to shape their lineup and to improve their prospect pool and array of draft picks. With this in mind, the following players may be available from the Senators if the right offer comes in: Mathieu Perreault Sven Baertschi Alex Chiasson Jonas Brodin Kevin Connauton Cam Fowler Chris Tanev Derek Forbort Joel Eriksson Ek Chandler Stephenson Ashton Sautner Retention is also possible, depending on the deal.
  17. 2017 is already looking like an odd draft. Hischier is a very good player, Patrick looks like a slow-burner, but 3-4-5 was Heiskanen-Makar-Pettersson. In a redraft, that's your top three, Hischier is fighting for 4th overall, and Patrick comes several spots down. 2014 too. Ekblad and Reinhart went 1-2, but Draisaitl went third, hands-down the best player in the draft. But then you have drafts like 2015, where Arizona took Dylan Strome third ahead of several future hall-of-famers
  18. That's not the intention, we asked for him to be demoted only
  19. Thanks to the Commissioners for processing these signings - however the cap hits are still the old ones
  20. Trading Dubnyk loses us some points in ths short term, but gives us a solid backup in Aaron Dell, an exciting goalie prospect in Konovalov, and yet another pick with which to build up an unstoppable array of young talent. Plus, solves any cap worries we had
  21. People laugh, but he was really poor down the stretch. 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 17 games, despite getting more than 17mins per night, with 43 shots and just 6 hits. He looked good when he first came in, but Tanner Pearson stole his thunder and I could easily see Leivo being 13th forward.
  22. I said in another thread that were I GMJB, I'd be pointing at Teravainen and Larkin and saying "you think you're better than those guys?" Boeser shouldn't be a cent over $7m, and in a normal market really ought to be a $6m guy. He's not even played 200 NHL games and we're going to pay him for production we don't even know he's capable of. But whatever he signs for, I just want him to sign
  23. I wouldn't agree, because that Keller deal is a fantastic one for Arizona. The most troublesome RFA signings in the last couple of years have been William Nylander (who by that point should have settled for a bridge deal with reduced term) and Kevin Labanc (who was just plain stupid, signing for such a low AAV when even $4m would have looked like a bargain). Were I Jim Benning, I would use examples such as: Teuvo Teravainen (signed January 21st 2019) Contract: 5 years, $5.4m AAV GP: 360 (Boeser 140) G: 76 (Boeser 59) A: 150 (Boeser 57) Pts: 226 (Boeser 116) Reason: Last two seasons has outscored Boeser, and has 40 games of playoff experience Dylan Larkin (signed August 10th 2018) Contract: 6 years, $6.1m AAV GP: 318 (Boeser 140) G: 88 (Boeser 59) A: 125 (Boeser 57) Pts: 213 (Boeser 116) Reason: Last two seasons has outscored Boeser, and is the future Red Wings' captain While inflation can account for a slight increase to Boeser's contract, who would you rather have - Teravainen on that deal, or Boeser on some 8x8 deal?
  24. DEMOTION: The Detroit Red Wings demote D Josh Teves to the Ann Arbor Wolverines (waiver exempt). @canuck2xtreme if you have free time, these are my up-to-date lines for the upcoming season, with the TBC spot on our third pairing going to the as-yet-unannounced signing. I have no goalies on my farm team: DETROIT RED WINGS 2019/20 James van Riemsdyk - Jack Eichel - Brock Boeser Jakub Voracek - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Josh Anderson Jakub Vrana - Ryan Strome - Dylan Strome Anthony Beauvillier - Devin Shore - Jujhar Khaira Jacob de la Rose - Greg McKegg Noah Hanifin - Darnell Nurse Quinn Hughes - Troy Stecher TBC - Calvin de Haan Chad Ruhwedel John Gibson - Keith Kinkaid ANN ARBOR WOLVERINES 2019/20 Max Comtois - Josh Norris - Francis Perron Matthew Strome - Joe Gambardella - Daniel O'Regan Brendan Gaunce - Akil Thomas - Blake Speers Blake McLaughlin - Jonas Rondbjerg Josh Teves - Gavin Bayreuther (with an 'a' not an 'e') Logan Stanley - Jared McIsaac David Farrance - Cale Fleury Josh Healey TBC - TBC
