  1. Ah yes. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush!!
  2. Appreciate all you Canuck fans! Twas a great place to learn different perspectives on building this team, LOL at all the banter, have some harmless fun, get worked up over trades or signing only to come on here and read alternative view points which shifted my thinking (excluding the Miller signing) AND troll the Leafs at every opportunity. I can't stand most of the Van media and this was an awesome place for us to engage in the fandom and build up the community. Hoping the org can continue to make strides in all areas, so that we can become a power house starting '24-'25. Draft, develop, build the culture and accountability. Everyone who works for the nucks should know it's a privilege to be part of the NHL and it's most beautiful city! Go Canucks Go!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Fire in the belly. Most players his size don't engage in scrums, post whistle stuff. But he can get testy. See below.
  4. TB also had incredible depth at all positions over the past several years. Those players have all been shipped out now due to cap constraints, yet they keep on winning. Johnson, Palat, Killorn, McDonagh, Maroon. These players were key cogs in the TB machine. Now they are hoping players like Jeannot, Hagel, Cirelli, Sergachev can fill those voids and I think it is still a very well built team and with a core of Hedman, Kucherov, Stamkos, Point and Vasi- still a team to be reckoned with for a few more years.
  5. Motte scored one of the best goals in the bubble playoffs. Made AP look like a pylon!! Good memory
  6. Joking. Patterson is a douche. I love Miller. Think he is captain material.
  7. Jeff Patterson started a rumour that JT Miller said he would only accept the captaincy if the org agreed to shut this site down. So, I guess JT has already been chosen as the next captain and he may yet get his way in terms of this site potentially shutting down. Now the haters can really sink their teeth into some solid trade proposals
  8. That's the body of a man putting in the work to seize this new opportunity and to cash in on his next contract.
  9. Feels like they spent a dime when most teams would have spent a nickel on this player at this point in their career. Not much of a sample size. Good news is that Ottawa is on the upswing, full of young talent. Dorion is all in with his young core- BT, Stutzle, Norris, Chabot, Sanderson. Fingers crossed Korpisalo holds down the fort.
  10. I hear ya. I have the same outlook more or less. Just putting out an "all in" proposal to improve the team based on the thread "Canucks MUST make the playoffs in 23/24." If that was the direction from ownership, that is what I would try and do. Go out and get an awesome, complimentary partner for Hughes who could play on this squad for years to come.
  11. To me, if Pesce is willing to sign a long term deal and become Hughes partner for the next 5-6 years, he would be my #1 target/priority. Assuming it would take a good haul to land him from Carolina prior to the start of this season. This would be my offer. To Carolina: Myers (retain 1.8), plays 3rd pairing minutes. Big body for playoff hockey, plays with some underrated edge. 1st unprotected 2024 Hoglander- young player with promise to be gifted offensively but needs some more seasoning on his defensive game.
  12. If we can have Hronek lead the 2nd unit PP on the point, he would give our 2nd unit a bomb from the point and having 2 dangerous PP units would be a nice weapon. Also have that internal competition b/w PP units that Bieksa mentioned his Canuck teams had over the years. 1st PP Unit: *Beau Kuzmenko Petey Miller Hughes *Pad his stats and inflate his numbers on our top PP, simply to up his value for trade if he ain't in the long term plans. 2nd PP Unit: Garland Boeser Mik Hronek *Hirose *Showed lots of composure in his stint at the end of last season. Could see him performing well as a set up man for Hronek's 1 timers!
  13. I feel like we have some good bottom 6 options in Joshua and PDG. They are both big men with some decent speed, finish their checks and can chip in with offense from time to time. They can even be bumped up the lineup if needed, ideally for short stretches. I still see our biggest need as another top 4 defender and I expect to get that next offseason, when Myers and other contracts are off the books (Pearson, Beauvillier, Cole). But I guess it could happen sooner should we ship out one of Boeser or Garland. *I am intrigued about Filip Johannson (RD prospect). If he has a strong season in Abby, perhaps after Myers is moved, he could audition on the 3rd pairing- especially if we are a ways out from a playoff spot.
  14. Petey is a gamer. Has that internal drive to compete with and against the best players. He is just coming into his own. I hope the team does well this season and that it becomes apparent for him to sign long term. I mean, there is so much parity in the NHL now and we have good young pieces sprinkled in with solid vets. I also trust in this new, well rounded coaching staff. Solid development staff in Abby. Drafting and developing will help us, no more rushing prospects like McCann & Virtanen, Players need to percolate in the A and show they belong with the big club- earn it!. Having an experienced MGMT group who knows what it takes to win (culture, battle, skill), I think Petey signs long term. That's my hope anyway. 8x11.5
  15. "Whatever floats your boat eh" Does Stawns mean stubborn in hockey forum lingo?
  16. I gave you a handful of examples of the differences b.w rebuilding teams (Chicago, Anaheim, Arizona, Ottawa, Buffalo) and retooling teams (Nashville, Calgary, Isles, Canucks). Get your head outta the sand lol. Majority of teams retool, whereas some go full tear down, rebuild mode, which is way more painful for the fanbase and harder on the owner's pocket.
  17. I appreciate there are different paths. IMO, a rebuild is what Detroit is and has been going thru (6-7 years of blah, but getting lots of top picks). It's a long and slow process. Ottawa and Buffalo have been in one in for years, being bottom feeders to finally, perhaps this season, seriously challenge for playoffs. A retool is what Calgary did last year when they lost Johnny Hockey to free agency and MT informed them he wouldn't re-sign. Tree wanted them to remain competitive, so he signed Kadri and traded MT for Hubby. A retool is what Colorado did this offseason, adding players of quality (Johansen, Colton, Wood) to try and get another cup with their core in tact. Nashville is a head scratcher. They unloaded half of their core but kept Josi and Forsberg. So not a full rebuild but another retool of sorts getting O'Reilly to sign, trading for Barrie last year and signing Schenn for depth. They have Saros in goal so they will be competitive night in and night out. Ultimately the mandate on how teams do business is dependent on ownership. Some teams go scorched earth like Chicago, Anaheim, Arizona. While teams like Canucks, Isles, Wild tinker every offseason to try and make a squad good enough to make a run at the playoffs, with those teams doing a better job of doing so over the past 4-5 seasons. It feels like we are about to turn a corner with Alvin and Co. We have some solid prospects, some great NHL talent and some AHL guys who appear primed for NHL in a few years. Lots of pieces developing nicley in Abby (Karlson, Klim, Hogz, Woo, Silovs). I also like the offseason signings. Not too much term or salary. Overall good job by hockey ops. Just need to work on some PR stuff. Really botched the BB thing.
  18. Thanks for your opinion. Not sure how you trade away 2 of your top 3 centers and it not signalling a rebuild. I'm interested to know if you were at the helm, what player would you have targeted that would better suit your timeline? Keep in mind this MGMT group is in hurry up mode, not 3-4 years from now mode.
  19. If we moved Miller along with Horvat, no way Petey resigns in Van long term. That would have signaled an actual tear down, rebuild. Petey has made it plain he wants to play on a winner. This team should be scrappy. I like the new additions. We have decent depth at all positions and loads of skill. If Demko can stay healthy and our PK NOT be a disaster, we should be in the fight for a playoff spot. Just cannot afford another terrible start to the season. I like the job Alvin has done with limited cap space. He inherited a bit of a tire fire. Hoping the cap increases as projected in the years to come or that OEL cap penalty will really hurt in '26 and '27. I hated that move when it happened but it goes with MGMT's MO, trying to make the team more competitive in the here and now. Canucks could be this year's version of Seattle. Here's hoping!!
  20. B-bag O-cho B-eers And cheers to your summer. Go for a walk. Enjoy some fresh air.
