  1. Dallas Cowboys are in Seattle Tonight…7pm on TSN
  2. Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke continued to impress in his second NFL preseason appearance for the Jacksonville Jaguars, throwing only two incompletions in a 25-7 victory over the Detroit Lions. Rourke played the entire second half for the Jags, leading the team to two touchdown drives. He completed 10-of-12 pass attempts (83 percent) for 121 yards while rushing six times for 14 yards; showing flashes of the pinpoint accuracy and elite escapability that made him a coveted acquisition by NFL franchises this offseason. I like his poise, poise in the pocket — accurate passer. I’m sure there are some throws he would want back but for the most part, an accurate thrower,” head coach Doug Pederson said post-game. “Made a heckuva throw, a couple back shoulder throws on the sideline, a slant throw on a third down. The toughness aspect of it, he’s not afraid to pull the ball down and run. Those are all things that I appreciate about him, the effort and the leadership that he provides.” The Victoria, B.C. native went viral in his NFL preseason debut last week against the Dallas Cowboys, earning the attention of reigning league MVP Patrick Mahomes and millions of others with a spectacular touchdown pass after he broke four tackle attempts. He finished 9-of-17 passing for 153 yards and the score in that game to go along with six rushes for 20 yards and one touchdown on the ground, a performance that Pederson stated he learned “a lot” about the young quarterback. Rourke signed with Jacksonville this offseason following an extensive NFL workout tour that included 12 teams. He is one of three quarterbacks on the team’s roster and expected to be the third-stringer behind Pro Bowler Lawrence and veteran backup C.J. Beathard, who went 12-of-20 for 138 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception at Ford Field. “I thought Nathan did well again today. Couple touchdown drives, he’s done a nice job — exactly what we ask him to do. C.J.’s our number two and Trevor number one,” Pederson said. The 25-year-old Rourke is coming off a sensational 2022 season in the CFL during which he completed 78.7 percent of his pass attempts for 3,349 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 10 games — 8-1 as a starter. He ran the football 39 times for 304 yards and seven scores while becoming the first quarterback to win the league’s Most Outstanding Canadian award since 1980. The six-foot-two, 209-pound dual-threat passer was a three-year starter at Ohio University from 2017-2019 where he threw for 7,457 yards with 60 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He recorded 425 carries for 2,634 yards and 49 scores along the ground but received a small amount of NFL interest coming out of the NCAA. Rourke and the Jaguars return to action on Saturday, August 26 at home when the Miami Dolphins visit TIAA Bank Field. Jacksonville begins the 2023 regular season on Sunday, September 10 when the Jags visit the Indianapolis Colts.

  13. Rookie Anthony Richardson named as Colts' starting QB https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38196581/rookie-anthony-richardson-named-colts-starting-qb WESTFIELD, Ind. -- It took just one quarter of preseason action for Anthony Richardson to solidify himself as the Indianapolis Colts' starting quarterback. Richardson, this year's fourth overall draft pick, will be the Colts' starter this season, coach Shane Steichen announced Tuesday. The news comes days after Richardson's preseason debut against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. Richardson never saw it coming. "Honestly, I was shocked," he said. Richardson had been in a competition with veteran Gardner Minshew, but now that a decision on a starter has been reached, the Colts can dig into their preparation and tailor their offense to their new franchise quarterback. "Anthony's just been progressing," Steichen said. "The growth he's shown, then, obviously, going into Buffalo, playing against a lot of their starters, he showed great signs of improvement. I like the things he did, and it's an opportunity now for him to get a lot more with the [starters] moving forward, and we go from there." Richardson was 7-of-12 for 67 yards in one quarter of action against Buffalo. Of particular note, the Colts said, was the way he composed himself after throwing a costly interception on his first drive, a turnover that led to a Bills touchdown on the ensuing possession. Richardson rebounded to lead two more drives that both reached Buffalo territory, including a 77-yard drive on his final possession that ended with a missed field goal. It was just his 14th start since his final season at Eastside High School in Gainesville, Florida, in 2019. Steichen informed Richardson and Minshew of his decision in a meeting Monday evening, the coach said. Then, according to Richardson, he and Steichen embarked on a two-hour conversation about what comes next. Of the decision, Richardson said, "Still got to work for it despite being granted the opportunity. Still got to work for it because nothing's handed to you. Got to earn everything." Despite being described as the team's future at quarterback, Richardson, 21, said he had no expectations that this opportunity would come so quickly. That's why the decision was a lot to process for him. "Just hearing the words," Richardson said, impacted him. "You work for it, [but] you didn't know when the timeline was going to be," he said. "I was just looking forward to Week 1 and just being ready for the opportunity and getting thrown in the fire hopefully. But then he told me, and I'm like, 'Wow, it really happened.' So, I'm thankful, I'm blessed, and now, you've got to keep building on this opportunity." Richardson represents the Colts' latest hope for quarterback stability in their more-than-four-year effort to replace retired Andrew Luck. Richardson's move to the starting lineup means the Colts will have a different Week 1 starter for the eighth consecutive season. Last season, the Colts remarkably made four in-season quarterback changes. Richardson knows that history as well as the history set by the likes of Peyton Manning and Luck in previous eras. On Tuesday, he said confidently that he's chasing "greatness." "I talked about it before," he said. "I want to be great. I want to be remembered. I don't want to just be one of those guys like, 'Well, he was in the league.' I want my legacy to be remembered forever." As for Minshew, he expressed disappointment while also acknowledging what everyone already knows. "This is his franchise," he said of Richardson. "That's the reason they picked him where he is. And he's going to be really special."

  18. https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/272743/James-Harden-Calls-Daryl-Morey-A-Liar-Says-He-Wont-Be-Part-Of-Sixers In a video that surfaced on Monday morning, James Harden called Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey "a liar". Harden was speaking to a group of media and fans while on an Adidas press tour in China. "Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he's a part of," Harden said. "Let me say that again. Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he's a part of." Harden has asked the Sixers to trade him. Philadelphia and Morey have attempted to fulfill this request, but haven't found a deal to their liking. The LA Clippers are where Harden would like to be traded, but talks between the two teams have been termed as "stagnant". Harden opted into the final year of his two-year deal with the 76ers ahead of this free agency period. He did so with the idea that it would make it easier for him to be traded. Last week, Morey and the Sixers said they were ending trade talks and the intention was for Harden to report to Philadelphia's training camp.
