  1. Joe Thornton was a generational talent such as Ovi & Sid.

@luckylager I think the uniqueness of the type of player that Datsyuk was (Selke caliber defensive maven, filthy handed puck thief and an overall wizard with the puck) qualitatively makes him close to worthy of that title, though likewise he probably just falls short.  Of course the stats don't back that up but he's like Toews, in that his skills aren't just defined by quantitative stats.

Then again, some players who don't have the highest scoring stats probably are still in the HOF (probably a good comparable bar to measure for generational guys IMO?) so there's an argument to be made, based on championships and award accolades.

HOF is a low bar compared to generational talent.

I'm sure big Joe will be in the HoF but should never be mentioned in the same category as true generational talents like Orr, Howe, Gretzky, Lemieux, Lidstrom, Crosby and Ovi.

End of story, not talking about this anymore

@luckylager I don't think Sid is that type of player. He's good. But Ovi was definitely the generational talent of their respective years. Also you can't Mention Orr, Howe, Gretzky, Lemieux, Lidstrom, and Ovi. Without talking about Jagr as well. Jagr was definitely a Generational talent.
