  1. the only thing a little bit fishy was Kucherov coming back for the very first game of the playoffs last year. Many thought he was healthy enough to play near the end of the season. but tampa bay did not ever go over their allowed cap in the regular season, and their is no cap in the playoffs. "Don't hate the player, hate the game" Jeff Jarrett
  2. whole heartedly i disagree. when a team makes the playoffs they profit big time. a contract like player name's almost assuredly means you don't make them. making the playoffs is huge not only in the current years profits but the future's because the hype might cause a few fans to shell out for season tickets. player name wasn't even good enough for our basement dwelling team, while Ferland's contract would not effect the team's performance at all. 6 million in cap is generally worth a 1st rounder. Marc Staal making 2 million now was traded along with a second rounder in 2020 for considerations. he was overpaid in 2020/2021 by about 3.7 million, hence the second rounder.
  3. I know it's not insured. i said negative value. whats worse than negative value? super super negative value?
  4. LTIR is indeed complicated. LTIR does allow you to go over the cap, but ferlands cap hit still counts. LTIR is never a positive thing, for many reasons. 1. when you calculate the LTIR if not calculated at the right time you actually lose space. I don't want to get in to it's very complicated. 2. when in LTIR you cannot bank cap space for when the trade deadline approaches. 3. Bonus payments from rookie contracts and 35+ contracts can be paid off with remaining cap left over at the end of the year, BUT not when in LTIR. when in LTIR they get carried over to the next year and it can cost dearly. the canucks have a 1.25 million penalty this year. ferlands LTIR would give you an allowable 86 million in total space but his cap hit still counts against it, you would still only have 82.5 million in space left for other contracts. Ferlands contract is only a negative, but so is JVR's. JVR's is overpaid by maybe 3-4 million, and his actual salary is 5 million. that amount of cap is worth about a second rounder. how much negative value ferlands contract is up for debate. probably less than a secound rounder, but its definitely a negative. that being said, i dont think philly makes this trade.
  5. thanks for the post you put alot of great work here. is riley nash done? i think so. probably better off signing someone else, really anyone. he's a replacement level player. like beagle his game is too slow for this nhl. his 2 minutes on the pk isnt worth the 7 minutes 5on5.
  6. dowling wouldn't clear us cap would he? he makes league minimum so if JR or BB doesnt want on the team we can just bury his full contract in the minors. copp is likely signing for 5 million or more he is a big center after all and has been producing alot of points the last 3 years. wennberg signed for 4.5 and he didnt have nearly as many points. boone signed for 3.7m on a prove me.
  7. i agree we probably cant afford much more than 8.5 million @ 5 years, it would be a huge discount. hes probably gonna land between 8.5-9.5 over 7 years. cap friendly has him going at 10+ at 8 years. we arent getting discounts like vegas or the florida teams. didnt his agent tweet after hertl signed for 8.1. yikes. i really hope we can get a zibanejad deal minus a year. it seems most contracts dont take the player past 36 or 37 so maybe 9*7
  8. you never seem to get how ltir works. ferland will still count against the cap, infact it can NEVER gain you extra cap only less.
  9. capfriendly being within 300k of the contract does not mean this is a overpayment, it likely means that capfriendly was wrong. a 9.99 subscription service is not the end all be all, trust me its flawed. i will bring up a ufa thats a minimum wager ufa jay beagle. notice how his salary goes up the longer his contract is. why this works this way is its a AI and flawed. 10. according to capfriendly we overpaid a little bit. cap friendly had him at 6.18 on a 3 year. 11. because if we dont someone else will. maybe nichushkin is an option but he likely gets overpaid, trade smurf?
  12. lets say we trade miller and pearson for their first and zacha. we then trade for Mikheyev for a second. and hopefully get rid of poolman and dickinson and sign a 4 million dollar RD that could work. mikheyev petterson garland hoglander/slafkovsky horvat boeser kuzmenko wright/zacha podkolzin ???? lammiko lockwood maybe slafkovsky and wright dont make the team right away, but this could be something, maybe.
  13. i dont think we can afford to get rid of pearson and miller. whose gonna play top line lw? i think we try to trade dickinson and poolman to one of the bottom feeders
  14. we need to free up cap space, urgently. poolman, dickinson garland, myers are who im looking at. i think the dream would be to trade dickinson and poolman and bring in a 4 million dollar RD to replace poolman and kuzmenko to replace dickinson. i like the idea of holding onto miller and trading him at the deadline 50% retained if need be.

    1. Quantum

      Quantum

      Garland isn't an issue.

Poolman and Dickinson are definitely albatrosses.

Myers has value but if they can move him for cap relief, do it.

Getting out from under the OEL deal would be huge if they could move him to Boston or something this summer.

    2. Ballisticsports.

      Ballisticsports.

I doubt they want to play a complete season with the distraction of a unsigned Miller and that something will happen very soon in either he is re-signed or traded (I think he is traded to help us in weaker areas and the future)

If they not wanting to include draft picks to unload some of the others, then you have to retain cap while still signing a replacement or include a decent player (It is a tangled web to unweave)

  15. jesse pulvarvi played 710 regular strength minutes with either connor mcdavid or draisaitl. thats 11 minutes a game with number 1 and 2 goal scorer in the league, he scored 19 points with mcdavid while connor scored 29 with jesse. when jesses was playing with Draitsatil he scored 14 points and leon scored 15. jesse scored 25 of his 29 points with either connor leon as his linemate. he played 11 of his 12.5 ES minutes a game with either mcdavid or draitsatil. not bad but how does he have a 8.8% shooting percentage playing with those guys. he has the same shooting percentage as tanner pearson. no way im trading pearson for poolparty
  16. looks great but how much money are we spending on our back end?
  17. that sentence was a wild ride, just when you thought the end was near it kept going .
  18. correct me if im wrong didnt TRyamkin sign a 2 year KHL deal? with no reports of him even hinting on coming to the NHL. CDC, never change.
  19. lol, your reading comprehension is just low. using or is the correct verbage in this situation.
  20. why? i dont get it. they get older, slower and add cap. i can see why we would do it but not pittsburgh
  21. yikes, we will lose a lot of points not having miller run the PP. Millers earned that left high slot spot. I suppose kuzmenko could play bumper and still have horvat on PP2.
  22. gusev was injured, he had a pretty decent first year, then had 10 months of no hockey not to mention he was 29 and 5 foot 9 163 lbs. Shipyachov was like 30 years old and struggled learning the game he played 3 games and he bolted when sent down to the ahl to learn. not every one makes it your right. But i didnt make the conversion factor of 0.74 points translation. smart people made that factor and some will do better than the factor and some will do worse. hope this helps
