Really good podcast. Pretty much sums up what I've been saying. This is a playoff team if a bunch of questions get answered positively. In addition, the question around whether this team can play with better defensive structure is huge, especially with our weak d-core. LA, and Minnesota, present the biggest challenges with Vegas (goaltending) having even more questions than the 3 of us. There is also Nashville, who is very tough to read. Saros is a question mark for 82 games but I think they'll be quite good. As they mentioned good goalies and backups are getting hard to find in this league.

Yeah Hughes I believe has a good chance at developing his defensive game to be a true #1. He's just that good, incredibly determined, and smart. Absolute stud. Stillman could be a player but he's a #7/#8 until we see him actually play well enough to be called anything better. Potential is again just that. Already showed he couldn't play himself out of that same position on a horrible D in Chicago. I don't think he has much better of a chance here playing in this tire fire to be honest, but we'll see. I do like his physical side. I think he and Myers is what a nice physical third pairing could look like on a good team. Still not great but playable.

Hopefully they can pull it together but on paper it looks horrible, no question. Poolman is no better than a #6 currently and that's being very, very generous. Unfortunately potential is just that and Quinn is not currently a true #1. You need to be very good on both sides of the puck for that. No it's not the worst in the league but potentially it could be. It's just not good plain and simple. If I'm putting in the best light I have #2/#6 #2/#6 #6/#4 but realistically it's closer to: #2/#6 #3/#7 #7/#5

Homerism as it's finest ... lol Myers #3 ... ridiculous Poolman #4 ... beyond ridiculous Come on! lol Quinn is a #2 OEL is a #3 on our club ... borderline #2 elsewhere @PLOGUE you nailed it!

Yeah, he passes the eye test but as what? A 15 goal 15 assist guy, a great defensive presence that can protect Petey, a 30 goal 30 assist guy, a winger version of Bergeron, or a 50 goal player? We really don't know yet how he'll translate to real NHL games? These are the types of things that go into determining just how good this promising looking group can be.

[Signing] Golden Knights re-sign Nic Hague

More people foolishly hoping for other teams to fail so we can be competitive. Pro sports don't work like that. -

Same as always. A little maneuvering and voila. Cap compliant. -
The forwards look pretty good on paper but the proof is when they get on the ice for the regular season. I've had those same feelings many times but reality has changed by the time the season is underway. What do you mean by anyone who says differently ... not sure what they've been watching? This team hasn't played a single game yet? Edit: I guess you mean just watching years past ... yeah sure but like I said above it always looks good before you start already knowing the past failures.

Vancouver Canucks Season Preview - Spittin' Chiclets
Gawdzukes replied to Canuck You's topic in Canucks Talk
Yup, extremely reasonable take. They are right about OEL in the fact he got paid for providing offence. 5 years in a row of double digit goals and 2 at 20 is huge. He's not doing that here playing second fiddle to Hughes ... and Myers at another 6 million means they're right. Our d is expensive as heck and underperforms. It's the biggest reason we are a middling team. They also stated they don't really know what was happening with him during the year, and especially the second half. People upset by the truth. They did all the teams ... that's their job. We all speculate all the time about teams we don't know sh!t about either. I enjoy taking a look at the East Coast myself and wondering if teams like Buffalo, Detroit, and Ottawa, can make a push. They made totally fair comments and even indicated situations where they were lacking in knowledge. These guys know more than most people here. They can see our defence is very problematic and stated as much. -
Plus Bo, plus Kuzmenko, plus Miller, plus Podkolzin, plus Hoglander

[Waivers] 64 players - Oct. 09, 2022

Yeah but he could just as likely be unmovable. Quite the pickle. It makes it extremely hard to jump on opportunities like this when they arise. -

We're broke though. Bringing in someone and then having to trade another contract is a whole new problem unless we through another first or second at it. At this point we have to take some gambles anyway so who knows. -

Too much uncertainty with zero cap space. -

Toughness with zero hockey ability is useless. -
Yup this stuff is all true as well. I guess no one here will actually give the other team any credit at all which is all well and good. I don't expect anything more but I still felt they played great team defence and there was still a game going on besides injuries. I guess maybe we just weren't rough and tough enough though. Some people just can't accept that they lost.
-
lol, hmmm when you're using that word so much it chooses that over bigger I think you have a problem I call that excuses and totally discrediting the other team, but to each their own. Fair enough it's a valid point. I digress though, my main point was the fact they held us to a goal a game and scored more then we did had a lot more to do with us losing than Daniel not following through in a scrum.
-
Yeah maybe but it doesn't change how we lost. Biggest factor: The eight goals scored by Vancouver is the lowest number of goals scored by any team in a seven-game series in NHL history. We got shut down by a team completely dedicated to defence. Daniel neglecting to punch a guy in the face because we should had a PP coming isn't the reason we lost.

I get where you're coming from but you're also letting last year haunt your perspective a bit. There are 82 hockey games in a year. The last thing they need to do is put a 100% effort out for 7 games right before the season starts to bag themselves and possibly get injured. The pre-season is meant to ease yourself into the season. If they can't figure out your chemistry in 5-10 games to start the year they're done anyway. You're missing the point of pre-season. It's not like you say to build chemistry. It's to determine which young players, PTO's, and new players fit into the squad, and to determine all your weapons and situational call ups during the year. You need to actually give players an honest chance or due diligence is not being done. What happens when you have an injury at the start of the year? Now you have to start auditioning players and guessing who will go where. No, that's no good the fans would crucify management for dicking around when they had 7 fake games designed to figure stuff like that out. It's been done this way by all teams for years and years. Anyways, chill Jay, these games mean nothing and we'll see if they have chemistry or not when the season starts. It's very close now!

They got beat by a team committed to defence. It wins championships. Toughness is great too but being able to play defence is even more important. Horvat is fine. Guys like Miller, Boeser, Hoglander, and Kuzmenko, need to tighten up defensively if they want to challenge for a playoff spot. Actually with Kuzmenko we haven't seen him yet in a real game with points on the line. He could be good or he could be lost. That's 4 out of 12 guys though. They've got to be better 5v5.
