  1. Yeah Dickie is absolutely horrible at everyth ... well Center especially. If I'm being impartial I actually like how hard he fights, he's rarely out of position defensively and gets some great looks on net. Probably cause he's playing with good players here but he also can't finish worth crap. If he hit 3-5 of those easy sitters the fans would like him a bit more. He's got to go but I agree he's completely unmovable. He's serviceable though I guess for injury and who knows maybe he is actually somewhat decent when filling a defensive 3rd/4th line role like he played in Dallas. Good old JB brought him in and he played 3rd line Center and Winger on the 1st and 2nd line at times. The old JB square hole round peg syndrome.
  2. Yeah I'll give them kudos for a well thought out response to the cap crunch freak out. Very irresponsible and hugely problematic as an actual plan though imo.
  3. Probably a combination of both. You're right though JB has a lot of us gun shy with his poor choices and allocation. For good reason lol. It's all wrapped up together. It's still not good to be spending to the cap with a non playoff team, nor is it wise to leave yourself with no contingency either and no plan for unforeseen circumstances. First you build up the team, and then spend to the cap. Not the other way around. The OP sounds like a 21 year old college kid making a budget for the school year. Just joking but you know it seems like lavish spending without worrying about the need for things like food, medicine, cleaning supplies, etc. Ah they'll just take care of themselves.
  4. Exactly. Spending to the cap doesn't make you win a Cup.
  5. This is the exact type of thinking that got us in this mess. If you're not a top 4 team you shouldn't be happy scraping in $3 under cap. That's why we can never adjust from year to year and are always one step/player behind. So yeah it's really pointless and not a good idea just because you can. Not to mention you have zero contingency plan. This JB method at its finest.
  6. It should be a crossover with the other group but I get why it's not in regular WJC where you get unbalanced groups based on last year. Does that mean USA gets first on goal difference or am I totally out to lunch? Tried to look it up but it was unambiguous.
  7. Yup they got to figure it out soon. Hopefully Greig is going to be alright. He's huge in their defensively ... and everywhere else.
  8. Man that Zellweger is good. Anaheim going to be coming on real strong in a couple years. The boys got to get their act together for the semi final or we could be in trouble. 2.5 uninspiring periods in a row so far.
  9. Yeah we just cannot be relying on Dickinson. Maybe they're worried about going over the cap. Aren't we like $750,00 away or something? Possibly thinking of Karlsson or Aman or just a battle in camp ... or maybe they got a LL deal going since they kind of know him. Maybe waiting to trade a winger first ... is it possible to have too many good forwards? The other thing is perhaps they're thinking either JT gets traded and they'll figure it out then the best they can and/or Bruce is dedicated to running 3 scoring lines with Petey and JT centering a line. I think that actually works.
  10. Ah well it just sounded like pure desperate homerism. Like as if no other city compares or offers any incentives or anything. Or that's what hockey players even base their decisions on. Again, sure Vancouver is a great city but let's not pretend other places have nothing to offer in comparison. List me 16 cities that match Vancouver’s level. There is a reason why home prices are so high here. How many NHL cities have beaches, mountains and high end neighbourhoods like here? Not to mention the milder weather in the winters (you can scratch away all the eastern US and other Canadian cities). Are players really taking $2 mil less per year, who is that? It might have read better as "if JT loves the mountains more than anything in life we got a real good shot here".
  11. Yeah I'm totally down for futures and cap space if there are no RD's available. We have lots of forwards and a couple years to get where we're going. Unfortunately I don't think JR and Allvin will settle for anything less than a ready or near ready piece. Agree 100% on Rodriguez as well for 3C if we did that.
  12. Exactly. To think the only people in North America who enjoy a quality life is in Vancouver is silly. For a grown adult life is mostly what you make of it and that isn't solely dependent on living in Vancouver. If we lived in Eastern Europe or near Russia or something statements like that might have some merit. Like you I would personally think crossing the border and flying is a big issue, especially for JT's wife during the season and the entire family when they go to Pittsburgh for the summer. Does Natalie really want to be dragging 3 kids through customs all the time? It all depends on JT's perspective and nobody but he and his family and agent know what that is.
  13. lol, am I on the Leafs site or is Vancouver the new center of the universe? Give me a break every city in the NHL is great to live in when you're making $9 mil a season. Let's be realistic. Maybe if he just loves rain it would be here or Seattle, or Boston. He might like the players and team and such but he's also not 12 years old. I doubt friends are his top priority or that he has trouble making them. He can find good players and friends elsewhere as well and he definitely knows it. I don't think his decision will be based solely on the mountain skyline either and they have high end neighborhoods and beaches everywhere by the way. Plus there is better weather just about anywhere else. It's pretty clear he would consider Van, but only if they show him the money.
  14. Yeah you could see it on a recent rush where he used the speed and size to weave his way through the Germans and then just lost it rather easily when he had a clear lane to the net but didn't see it.
  15. The thing is, if the team is indeed better and has better depth and an improved top 9 JT is surely going to score less. Other players will be filling his minutes and scoring the points while JT will be used more as a specialized typical player and not rolled out in every single scoring situation. He'll also be concentrated on defence more if he doesn't have to do "everything" up front. Gawd forbid he may even end up on the second line from time to time. Unless of course he just goes (Sutter) balls out to get points in order to obtain a contract. Last year went perfectly for him but I doubt he hits 100. 90 will be a big stretch. Well said. It's great to have nice shiny things for right now but this don't plan for the future thing is really killing this team the last 5 years running now. I remember Wheeler and he actually said I want to retire in Winnipeg. But yeah that's a good comparable and Wheeler is actually performing very well for an aging player. Just under ppg for the last 3 years and 2 years left bringing him to 37. If JT didn't have a career year a 5 x 7m would have been a nice fair deal. Really bad math to be paying him $9m in 8 years time though. I think these 7/8 year deals are garbage, for older players especially. I hope they get rid of those long deals somehow.
  16. Like the article says I can't see them not finding someone and starting with Hutchinson and Thompson. I don't think they'll need an overly good goalie with that defence. @higgyfan agree on Doughty ... kind of hate the guy but he's a gamechanger. They have a pretty good mix of youth and vets. They also addressed their biggest weakness with Fiala. Must be nice to have cap space and assets.
  17. https://thehockeywriters.com/pacific-division-predictions-2022-23-season/ Pretty decent and realistic predictions imho.
  18. First it's Schnieder, Kakko,1st and now 10,000 pages. There is no limit to what we can achieve together.
  19. Lol he definitely sways me a bit with that. Heart: Yes Head: No Well it confirms for me they are pretty far off on stuff as it stands but I wouldn't say it's impossible for them to find common ground and maybe JT to lessen his ask as you say based on his own analysis. Really humble yet very sure of his abilities. I chuckled when JT wouldn't bite on what his dollar amount and term ask is where JT says yes. Also when JT said there is negligible difference between an 80 point player and a 99 point player J.Scott says, "LIKE 19 IS A BIG NUMBER", JT should have said I know it's 5 times more than you ever got but it's not that much to the rest of us. Okay ... let's bare down here and get to some serious JT Miller talk folks. Just a quick 870 to go.
  20. Thanks for the suggestion Jester. Hell of an interview and damn sure tugs at the heartstrings a bit. JT sure is a hell of a guy. Haven't enjoyed a lengthy interview that much in a while. Here are the highlights for me. I did agree on the points thing and was surprised to hear he himself admit it was almost surely a career year and he never thought that those points were ever possible. Also like I've been saying all year now he stated that opportunity to play 80 games and 21 min a night in all situations with top offensive players is the single biggest reason he did it. I did hear the comments about not being close and it sounded like they were way way off. He used the words we're not close, thought about it and confirmed and then stated they have a vision and if it doesn't align that's business. Seemed to be a reoccurring comment. Spoke of JR and the respect he has for the tough decisions he has to make. Said contract talks did not go the way they wanted and they didn't find happy ground. Also uttered the dreaded "it is what is" comment at the end. It doesn't sound hopeful at all imo. He really did seem to have a genuine desire to be in Vancouver though if the #'s were to align. He spoke of how good the team and some of the young guys were and how excited he was for the team to keep pushing on from last year. Did admit later that it will be hard to focus on the season with his career and livelihood hanging in the balance. Also that this has actually been very hard on him but he's looking at it as these are good problems to have. Spoke of how they were in no way guaranteed playoffs but expected to be a playoff team if all goes as planned. Sounded very excited about the team's potential and seems honestly pumped for camp. I also found it very interesting how he said not much at all changed between Travis and Bruce except they got the PK going ... he basically said that sunk them but they were playing great 5v5 hockey at the start of the year too. He figured most guys just needed a change. Seems to have a genuine respect for Green. Also talked how guys like he and Quinn are good on the PK because they are so good on the PP. It's a simple game of outthinking the opponent in those situations which is Quinn's strength. Finally I found the comments on his area he needs to improve and mature in rather telling. He commented on how he plays with passion but he wants to get the swearing and stick breaking out his game, even though it will tough with his level of emotion it's just not right. He also commented how he loves passing the puck in his own zone but his defensive awareness needs to improve. That was rather rewarding to hear JT agrees with me after the arguments I've had with some posters regrading this. Also liked how he said 99% of stuff you hear is just made up garbage (he got traded to Pitt 20 times lol) and that's why he doesn't have any of that social media crap. Love him for that! Sorry for the long winded reply. I guess it's a synopsis for those who don't have 45 minutes to burn today. Cheers Jester!
