  1. Ah I don't know what he's talking about then. He definitely says at about 1:25 "We haven't gone through that second phase of buyouts, by every team yet ... that could free up some cap space or move some dollars around to ah ... make a Miller trade possible". Well I had to go back and listen to that goof again. My day is ruined !!! Ha ha ha. I wish I was better at photoshop. He just gets more slimy and deranged with heavier breathing every time?
  2. Yeah well start with Petterson or Hughes and add Podkolzin and you might have a deal. Anaheim is rebuilding. Why would they trade away there best young 19 year old player who is ripping it up at every level, including currently destroying it at the WJrs? What on earth could they possibly be getting in return and why wouldn't we just take that?
  3. Yeah I'm not in the keep Miller crowd but I guess I could see a way to attempt it. Not a big fan of the cap problems we continually face though and don't like the idea of making it worse but we'll see what happens. It's funny how everyone interprets JT's comments so differently ... I didn't listen myself to be honest so maybe I'll go find the clip. I really miss the days where people just reported the facts and stories with a slight lean without being aholes to get clicks. Yup Sekeras is a huge goof. lol same old. He probably gets half of his ideas here. I think he might be that AV character. Yeah he speculated maybe a buyout or moving Pageau but suggested one center will probably move to the wing.
  4. OMG this is so hilarious you can't be serious. MacTavish might be the best young player in the league.
  5. I broke down. Absolutely nada except him suggesting JT's superb professionalism may make Vancouver appreciate him more ... but also confirmed he said they were miles apart. I have to commend JT though as he says he's been a supreme pro the whole way. Sekeras sounded extra slimy though. I think he might have been emerging from something during the broadcast. Oh yeah also suggested the next trade point will be this week when the next buyout window opens. Kadri probably gets done this week as well.
  6. Yeah this must be so bad for the environment. 1130 pages wasted. I feel guilt.
  7. Yes exactly. But all teams that win the cup have players like this so the sooner we get one the sooner we win right?
  8. The article is pretty funny. Not sure the best dman should be weighted that importantly but I think we're middle of the pack. Calgary and Vegas definitely better than the rest and San Jose the worst.
  9. A world where age catches up with athletes in the 32-38 year range ... which is the one we live in. Look at the Benn contract in Dallas. I'm sure they would rather have had that money to sign Gaudreau, Klingberg, go after Tkachuk, or spend elsewhere. It's not necessarily going to be that way but surely you understand the risk and the possibility of it being problematic at the end?
  10. Yup, it seems pretty obvious. I'm surprised as well. Not to mention new management inherited some real good players but also some crap contracts, buyouts, and penalties. There is nothing they could do to prevent them but most of that damage "coincidentally" expires in 2 years. The same timeline JR, and the rest of us are aiming for. Same time Myers expires as well. Should be a huge reflection point to see where our defence is at in two years time.
  11. How is it riskier to have prospects and picks vs nothing though? Oh yeah don't bother I forgot about the one and done playoff bonus. I'd be interested to see an unbiased poll though on favorable risk assessment of trading Miller for a pick, prospect, and player vs signing him to an 8 year 8m deal. On one side I see that worst case possibly none of those players work out and are dropped in short order (but we gain $8 mil in cap space) vs worst case signing Miller to an albatross 8m dollar deal that stops us from properly competing for a 5-6 year period exactly when our core is in their prime. I'm guessing it would be about 70-80% in favor of the former but I've been wrong before ... once in 97. As we've seen those guys are pretty much unmovable in the current landscape without attaching major assets. So yeah we're waiting two years until their contracts expire so that's not really that easy at all. But I guess if you don't care about magic beans then we can just trade our firsts and seconds with these guys. It just screams impatience and a loss of even more assets though. This is just one of many reasons people are advocating for a Miller trade. It comes down to timeline again. Seems very risky too ... can we or can we not trade those guys and rebuild the RD next year at the same time ... Huge question marks? That I can accept but we're pretty much doing that as we speak except for Bo. No point in dumping 22 year old players to tank in order to acquire the same players. We are doing a kind of teardown. In 2 years time we have Petterson, Mikeyhev, Podkolzin, Boeser, Garland, Hughes, OEL, Demko, and Poolman on the books and Mik, Boes, and Garland all at the end of their deals. I get what you're saying though and you definitely make me think things through. I just don't agree on this topic. Fwiw this is probably the first time I've advocated for trading the best player in the deal. Usually I'm on your side. I just think in conjunction with Covid climate cap, team roster, and new management this is the best course of action, which also carries far less risk.
  12. I think you obviously just want to keep Miller (real bad) no matter what because it's been explained at length. C'mon now. Nothing wrong with that man. I can see your point very clearly but you can't even seem to try to understand the other side at all. What I don't understand though is how getting some assets over none is more risky though. Why exactly is that risky, it's actually the safer more reasoned approach? What are these huge risks we would be taking down the road as compared to now? You seem to think Miller is going to single-handedly deliver a Cup either this year or in a couple years while his 8-9 million cap hit over 8 years is just a minor inconvenience. That's actually a massive risk! Also who else can you move out if not Miller, Bo, or Boeser? At this point all of our other players are untradeable unless you want to dump Schenn, Podkolzin, Mikeyhev, or Kuzmenko. So that's two years until we can make some more moves to get better and fix the D. So the plan would be to spin our wheels for two years and then hope everything comes together before Miller shows signs of decline. If we were to re-sign Miller at 8m we're in immediate cap trouble next year with Bo to sign, plus Kuzmenko, and Schenn. You don't seem to like the idea of a reset but it only makes sense that new management is there to assess what direction the team needs to take moving forward and as such might need some time to implement a plan.
  13. Based on his pressers and comments since day 1 that's not my take. It seemed to me they hoped they wouldn't take a step back but strongly hinted it was possible (likely?) and that creating a perennial contender was paramount to that. I think they are looking/waiting for a good return regardless and we'll see how far they are willing to take that ... and what the parts indeed are in a return. Realistically though I think we're looking more at 4 years for a full revamp with a possibility of 2 or 3 depending on some luck/Miller return/future moves.
  14. Haha, obviously if the team hasn't made any strides in 4 years and they go into rebuild mode then they might want to leave. I'm pretty sure the plan is to get better though so that's a relief.
  15. yup https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/canucks-sign-goalie-thatcher-demko-five-year-25m-extension/ https://lastwordonsports.com/hockey/2021/09/30/report-vancouver-canucks-extend-quinn-hughes/
  16. I'm really liking what I've seen out of him lately.
  17. Sure in and of itself it's surely important but let's not lose all the context leading up to this point. Sorry for my "sarcasm" but I was having trouble understanding what you were saying. It sounded like you were saying we should go all in for playoffs this year because it's the most important thing.
  18. Nicely said! If Miller isn't traded and we lose in the first round as compared to not making the playoffs is it going to change what we do moving forward? It shouldn't. Like you said we already know what we need. In addition, if Miller is ultimately going elsewhere wouldn't it be better to play the season with what we have moving forward and use this season to better asses our needs, while getting a much needed return to help replace him?
  19. This sounds all backwards. So you're going to just easily make the playoffs and put all your eggs in that basket just to test how good you are as a playoff team and then use that information to make up the choices on our future in 11 months time? It just feels like there may be an important decision in there somewhere that needs to be made sooner than that.
  20. What if we don't make the playoffs this year even with Miller? It's not like making the playoffs means we'll just automatically win a cup in 3 or 4 years or something. It's not some all or nothing play. I don't think any GM in his right mind is purposely burning an asset like Miller just for a one and done shot at the playoff's. JR has certainly said as much. What happens next year then? My belief is also building for 2-3 years which makes this years results completely unimportant in comparison to building the team up. I find it absolutely hilarious how the goalposts have moved from JT is the be all end all of the Canucks future and worth any contract he wants to losing him for nothing is fine because making the playoffs is our new holy grail. Congratulations ... you've just become the Vancouver Maple Leafs.
  21. Makes sense. You never know though. Hopefully Patches recovers. That's a crappy injury at 33.
  22. Hey Jimmy. Some Alvin guy keeps calling. He seems pretty excited. Can you please come in and talk to him?
  23. Unless it takes a little longer to heal or they ask him to sit out voluntarily I guess. Technically illegal but it's been done before.
  24. Jarvis was an absolute stud last year. Necas or Kotkaniemi might be more to their liking. Holy that Kotkaniemi deal though lol. Is Patches going to be back for playoffs? Could have a TB thing going on if so.
  25. Could you provide a link to these hockey writers projections? I've been looking for some but can't find anything. Myself I'm not al at all that confident. From what I've seen in hockey over the years I expect some regression from some who had career years. I also think it could realistically take some time for Bruce to get all the new players, including Kuzmenko, and Mikeyhev, and an entire 4th line worked into the line up. Of course our RD is also a mess. That could ruin us.
