If Miller smashes his stick in the forest do his team mates hear it? And if so ... does it upset them? -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Lots of talk from the bosses but not a lot of action. Maybe they shouldn't have said anything when they got hired. Talk of big changes, not recognizing the team, and tough decisions. They got my hopes up we'd be moving on from this failing (no offence) Benning plan but 8 months later nothing much has changed and were waddling around cluelessly like usual. NFL Football can't start soon enough for me. Trust me I keep trying not to refresh this dumb thread ... but I'm addicted. It's got a hold of me! -

Sign me up for any of those. I like Prokop, and Raty, and Wood is a decent roster player and Bahl is a big RD we need in the system. It's important to get as many 1st and second rounders as we can into the system as soon as we can so I like the added pick in each scenario. -

Yeah it looks like they totally botched this. Should have made a move early when options were available without telegraphing everything. Looks like a whole lot of the same this year now. Oh well. -

I don't know what else to tell you man. I've found in sports more often than not thinking you're going to drastically improve based on a what if (Green wasn't here) model usually doesn't work out. I'm judging the team on the actual results they achieved over the last 4 years, including last year. Overall they haven't been great. They've made some pretty good moves this year and as you say may be the most improved team in the West. That "yet to be seen improvement" is good and all but are they good enough to beat Dallas, Nashville, Edmonton, Minnesota, LA, and Calgary over 82 games? That remains to be seen. In my opinion they are all still good teams and not as easily pushed aside as you think, even with our upgrades. I would also bet Dallas, Nashville, Minnesota, LA, and even Edmonton's fans are all similarly sitting there saying they are way better teams this year too! -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

lol we're arguing semantics I guess "I think at this point it would be shocking if the Canucks don't make the playoffs" was the original post. I don't know I guess it's not a guarantee exactly but I personally wouldn't be shocked if we missed the playoffs. I find the NHL is a tough league. That is all. -

Yes you're welcome to view it like that but you have to admit it's a small sample size with a couple asterisks by it. I would call it an informed but risky conclusion. I usually judge on what actually happened. For me this group of players missed the playoffs again and they have to prove they can put together an 82 game run against some very good teams. We'll see what they do. I hope it's as easy and simple as you guys make it sound. I'll gladly eat my words on this one when we win the division. -

I get what you're saying Jester but in sports I've found it far more prudent in my experience to bet conservatively when estimating from one year to the next. It's no slight against the Canucks but I would currently rate only Colorado St. Louis Vegas as playoff guarantees assuming no big injuries. The rest are all up for grabs and depend on a lot of factors imo. To be honest I think the Canucks have a pretty decent shot. Minny could regress although they were real good team last year. Who knows how Calgary will rebound. Still a good (Sutter) team. Nashville and LA look stronger this year and there is always an upstart possibility from Anaheim, SJ, Winnipeg. Even out East the top 8 look set but I look forward to seeing another team break in there. Every year teams completely surprise. Guarantees are tough to make in the West. -

Okay if you guys say so I will accept that. Usually I would say because other teams look better too it's very hard to leap upwards in the NHL standings, or even prognosticate from one year to the next. My understanding of the sport must be completely effed cause my hockey radar is screaming don't bank on assumptions and clear sailing. But no worries: Guaranteed playoffs here we come baby!!! Are tickets on sale yet? Trade Miller! -
[Signing] Blue Jackets re-sign Patrik Laine

You think Boeser is noticeably better defensively and you would take him over Laine because of that? -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I hear your reasons and they make sense it's just that it's a bit of a fool's game to hope these things all work out in your favor while nothing negative happens. It's rather optimistic and of course the other 15 teams are certainly not going to make it easy. As you say essentially with the same players we were a borderline wild card team last year. I don't think a couple signings and BB all year are enough to guarantee a huge jump. I would say we may be better but by how much is questionable. Also other teams are all certainly improving. The Kings, Oilers, and Vegas will all be better. Vegas much better. Calgary is a wildcard but they will be competitive. "I think at this point it would be shocking if the Canucks dont make the playoffs" Not trying to be a jerk but this sounds like pure homerism to me. Does any other pundit or hockey people out there think we're this good? I guess I'm old school on this I don't expect a huge improvement in situations like these until I see it. Do you have any idea many years I've heard that claim only for it to turn out totally untrue? -
[Signing] Blue Jackets re-sign Patrik Laine
Gawdzukes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yep, I'm definitely giving Boeser a vote of confidence. Maybe he can put a more rounded effort forth and broaden his game to cover more areas. I think Laine is going to have a good chance at big success here in the next couple of years. He will shine when the young prospects finally hit the ice. Columbus has something good cooking out in Ohio. Gaudreau Johnson Laine Mateychuk Jiricek Now that's a PP. Add Sillinger, Peeke, Foudy, etc.. I'm Jelly. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Nope absolutely will not be happy. I'm just pointing out to the Miller is life crowd that we're no shoe in for playoffs like some believe just because we keep Miller. They keep talking about playoff experience and runs plus Petterson's expectations when we could just as easily miss the playoffs like last year. We're still a borderline wildcard team with some major flaws and we could even experience some growing pains contradictory to the torrid BB pace some fans expect our of the gate. That's why I want to trade Miller. It's just reasonable to gain assets in situations like these in order to facilitate continual development in the prospects side of the club. These types of moves are necessary to promote a long contention window. I don't believe anyone in the hockey world outside of CDC believes the Canucks are a contender this year. -
[Signing] Blue Jackets re-sign Patrik Laine
Gawdzukes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
When the money is involved its definitely debatable for sure. I don't think any GM chooses Boeser over Laine straight up. That's just silly which is what I was commenting on. Yes it will be very interesting to see how Boes does. I will definitely 100% be rooting for him. I'm a big fan of him as a person and I think this could be a giant motivator on the ice as well. Here's hoping for 35+ !!! -

Gawdzukes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The original post had nothing to do with cap hit though. You may be right regarding $$ but if I'm in Columbus' shoes I'm going Laine all day long to play with JG. He's a better 5v5 goal scorer. For us we couldn't afford to even ponder it so I'm happy enough with Boeser, and the extra cap. Who knows maybe Boeser gets 35 this year. -
[Signing] Blue Jackets re-sign Patrik Laine
Gawdzukes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Nothing wrong with it but I personally don't like being incorrect for any reason. Home board or not ... it's just hockey no skin off my back. I'd rather be correct and honest than pat myself on the back all day while living in some sort of self delusion. For me this isn't really that important in the big scheme of things that I need to lie to myself. It really shouldn't matter to us that Laine is better than Boeser. -

Yeah goals = money. I don't necessarily agree. Just like the difference between 60 points and 80 points is worth way more than a 25% pay increase. When it comes to pure goal scoring clearly Laine is the guy you want. Is it worth $2 mil is another question entirely. I would probably say yes in their situation. -
[Signing] Blue Jackets re-sign Patrik Laine

Whatever floats your boat man. Boeser is beyond useless without the puck as well and was absolute rubbish defensively last year. I have no clue what you were watching. Anyone with basic hockey knowledge knows that Laine is a prolific goal scorer and the better option if you have a choice. CDC -

Talk about homer Canuck fans lol. They're both one dimensional goal scorers and Laine is far more prolific and the no brainer choice. Can't believe people are actually trying to argue this. HOMERS!!! -

Laine is a far better goal scorer. I would take Laine in a heartbeat. He may get 50 in Van with Pettersson. -

He's gone regardless ... so team destroyed I guess. Hopefully Seattle has some room for new fans. Surely there is a way the world and the Canucks keep turning without Miller. There are also ways teams win hockey in this world without JT Miller. There are also ways in which Pettersson re-signs without JT holding his hand. If missing the playoffs is something we have to contemplate without the legendary JT Miller so be it. Oh wait we've only made the playoffs once by fluke in every year JT has been here anyway. The funniest part of this is when we lose JT for nothing and miss the playoffs anyway. Can't wait. Lol
