[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
And? I guess that clears that up, give us the Cup. Except hat gives you zero context like shot quality and I'll tell you right now they don't capture that in a stat except for privatized in house data collection by individual hockey teams. So we as normal citizens don't have access to them. They collect a dumbed down version in advanced statistics called high danger chances but it's simplistic, dumbed down, and useless. The last time I checked having similar shot metrics to good teams doesn't just make you a good team, or make your defence good, or have anything to do with winning hockey games. 15 of the top teams were within 2 shots of each other, with 6 more being 3 less and TB actually giving up a full 2 less shots per game than the Nucks. -

Same as last year. Let Thatcher get pummeled every night, hope for the best, draft a good hockey player at 15th. Who knows maybe TD requests a trade and we finally get a legit RD out of it. -
(Rumour) Tkachuk trade in the works

Yeah if they can do it correctly and turn it around in 3-4 years while we're floundering around with deadweight contracts and no prospects or assets making a push I'll be severely pissed me thinks. -

I've actually stopped watching club futbol. I can't stand how it seems no player honors their contract anymore. It's like no team or player is your own to cheer for anymore. As soon as someone new signs a contract a guy like Ronaldo gets jilted and has to tear up his contract and go somewhere else to be in the limelight and of course make 25 mil more a season. As a result teams are constantly changing to fast to care about and any team's pitch is just a player's stop in the road while collecting money and fame. It's a complete and total farce imo. And this coming from a scouser at a time when I should be caring. I can't wait for the world cup though. It's only been 40 years since Canada was in it. That should be fun for us. lol ... maybe -
[Signing] Canucks sign Ilya Mikheyev

I'm also curious to see if perhaps Bo might find some chemistry with Kuzmenko. So far Pearson has been the guy Bo plays best with, but he's not a big goal scorer or point getter on his own. -

They would probably have to add a first or second to even it out. In JR we trust. -
Obviously at that point it's a next year problem. It's not like Myers is under contract for ever anyway or the only defenceman in the league capable of playing RD minutes on our team. I don't know ... feeling like we're lost without Myers feels like we've lost already or we're basically just admitting defeat.

Yeah we have an infinite amount of combinations on paper. Poor Bo though lol, back to his old line mates with all these wingers flying around ... although not necessarily the worst thing. -

how does that lineup work? 3rd line of Podz-Miller-Garland Mikheyev Petey Boeser Kuzmenko/Pearson Bo Hoglander/Dickinson? and then one of Pearson/Kuzmenko on the fourth line? -

I totally get your stance here and I understand it. You actually provide some very unique points which I appreciate. And I do jump the gun sometimes. There is a chance we put it all together but I think it's more likely we run into problems. We still have no D improvements, we have no 3C, we have 2 guys in Joshua and Lazar who may or may not fill a role acceptably. We have huge question marks in Dickinson, Hoglander, and Poolman. We also have a complete unknown in how Kuzmenko will adjust and similarly Mikeyhev. Plus putting those new players into the right positions. There are a lot of moving parts and work to be done by BB et all to get this team playing at a playoff level all year. But yeah my bad I guess we agree that Miller should be traded. I admit I have become impatient to feel good about our direction as a team again. I just don't see the playoff dream as important in the big scheme of things at all. If we get our future sorted out and make the playoffs then ... -

How else do you acquire assets if not trading players? He's worth more than any player we've traded since I can remember. Bertuzzi, Bure? It's not about some mind boggling return, it doesn't have to be a franchise altering trade. It's about building assets up instead of wasting opportunities to do so. That's the franchise altering part. -

This where we disagree I guess. I try to look at this impartially and I see a team who has made the playoffs just once in 7 years and that was three years ago. That was also thanks to the play in system. Just because the team had a half decent stretch they still missed the playoffs ... again. They also won about 9 games in a row after the coaching change which isn't sustainable and obviously while coaching was an issue the players themselves were just playing like crap since BB obviously didn't have any coaching time prior to that run itself. Add that to a favorable schedule of back up goalies and no pressure and I don't think this is any sort of thing to hang your hat on. I've watched close to every game for the last 8 years and I don't think an honest analysis can proclaim this team has suddenly arrived. Last year was definitely encouraging but I don't think the odds support that they're anything more than a bubble team until they actually go out and replicate that pace or better for 82 games. That's a huge gamble for team that has huge decisions facing them and therefore not in a good position to gamble -

Why on earth would we be keeping Miller for a useless playoff run when we need assets for the future in the worst way? That's a massive SHORTCUT to nowhere. We're not some top team and shouldn't be banking on some playoff run based on last year. This team could just as easily miss the playoffs as make them. We're still the same bubble team. Forecasting this as a 100 point team is where you're going wrong imo. We haven't fixed our main problems at all. A couple decent/fringe player changes doesn't suddenly make our defence any better. That's probably a more impartial realistic take similar to what someone unrelated to the Canucks would say. Thinking we can waste high quality assets like Miller for things like trying for the playoffs instead of growing our future is a shortcut. Hoping for success instead of building for success. -

This team doesn't need playoff experience, first and foremost it needs to get it's $&!# together and start making the good decisions @Warhippy referred to. Then comes playoffs after we've addressed the critical issues staring us in the face. Shortcuts shortcuts shortcuts ... I'm sick of them they never work. That's like saying the Ducks or Arizona need playoff experience. No they don't they need to keep building up their teams so they can compete which is what they're doing. -

lol this is what I'm talking about. I wonder how many other fans or NHL pundits would call us a top 5 NHL team like some of the folks here so desperately want to believe. We haven't even addressed our major areas of concern besides bottom 6 depth. -

People be delusional. Apparently almost making the playoffs after a rough start is like winning the SC. It even feels ridiculous when I type it. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Dakota Joshua
Gawdzukes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I highly doubt they bury Dickinson. NHL clubs don't operate like that. He's 27 and an established NHLer with 300 games under his belt in the middle of a three year deal. @Hairy Kneel That is one scenario that would actually stop players from signing in Van. One tough year in that sh!t show season and a support player gets dumped. Not a good look if you're signing guys like Joshua, and/or especially a guy like Lazar to a three year deal. I'd be hesitant knowing the Canucks might dump me because their management is too dumb to understand how cap works. -
Couldn't agree more. Do my eyes count as facts cause yeah 4/10. It's the team's biggest weakness. They don't really keep stats for not knowing how to clear the zone, being confused in your own end, and not being fast and/or mobile/skilled enough to take the puck to the opposition instead of getting it slammed in our face or off some miraculously sprawled Thatcher Demko body part. I would love to see those stats.

Yeah that is true, we'll see what they do. To be honest I'm starting to lose interest a bit, even though I'm still here. lol. I still think it's obvious in my mind that the best route is moving on but if they don't, hey no skin off my back either. I've had my say. It's not my team and I don't make the decisions and I'll be anxiously watching next year even if Miller is still here (see it blow up real good). I still think someone needs to make up their minds about what Center depth means. If it means playing Petey or Miller on the wing that's fine. However if they're paying a guy 7 mil to be the third line center this team is dead in the water cap wise. If they do play one of these guys on the wing then we absolutely need a 3C. Not Dickin$&!# ... no more Dickin$&!# ... please for the love of. -
