  1. Yep, yet another reason not to waste everything going for it the next couple of years until all that bad cap is off the books and we have a fair chance to compete with the other teams.
  2. No I'm talking about keeping Miller and pretending we're good enough to contend again next year (That's the Benning plan). If they can magically move all those guys and pick up 5-6 solid players it has a tiny chance of working but such a huge chance it can go horribly wrong. What happens when none of those guys can be moved and we're stuck against the cap with an aging and now overly expensive Miller? I mean if Myers, Dickinson, Poolman, Pearson, Garland, and Hoglander all get traded before Thursday replaced with Schnieder, Marino, Zacha, Deslauriers, Paul, and Forsberg I will tip my hat to you and Canucks management. That just seems like fantasy land stuff to me.
  3. Very well said. A couple of Canuck fans are blind to the reality of how bad our team structure was. If not for heroics of Petey, Miller, Hughes, Bo and Demko this is a bad hockey team that needs some major work. No two ways about it.
  4. I would say 1 in McDo0naugh, and maybe the goalie and Myrenburg eventually. We need to acquire picks and develop the 2022 15 and 21 and 79. We also need to draft well in 2023 and take the 2023 10-12th overall plus 42 and 74, and any other picks or prospects we receive in trade now or next year. That's 6-10 solid young players with a higher chance then most to develop into an NHLer in 2-4 years. Unfortunately there is no quick fix for the mess we've created. I think you're taking a bit of a defeatist attitude in regards to draft picks. It's literally where 95% of NHLers come from. There is no getting around that so not wanting draft picks because the take time is a poor decision in my mind. Again it comes down to patience to take a step back and reset.
  5. I see too many problems to just tinker around the edges like this and then max cap out on our current squad ... yet again. As someone mentioned this is the Benning plan and we've seen it clearly doesn't work as he so desperately hoped each year. As @AC Readership mentioned this would be utterly boring and a waste of time imo. I would be tempted to say this would be the first time in 20 years I won't watch all the games ... but of course I'd watch anyway but against my will.
  6. Exactly. It doesn't matter what we do with the team on the ice the team 100% needs to start getting picks (young prospects) in the system to be continually competitive. I'm far bigger on acquiring draft picks than most folks and JR/Allvin I think.
  7. We probably get a little forward help back with trades and I see a UFA signing or two but really with Miller it'll only be 80 points we need to replace as he had a career year. Anyways even if he gets 100 next year the defence is far more important! I don't think this thing gets fixed in one year like you hope. Fix the defence which has been plaguing us for years. Then you can concentrate on finding some point getters in a year, or two, or three to play in the top 6 with Petey and Bo and Boes. We also have Kuzmenko so we can ice something quite competitive. Garland-Petterson-Boeser Kuzmenko-Bo-Podkolzin Pearson and Hoglander can also play up there if need be plus a UFA if we free up cap. I think that's absolutely fine for a year or two while we position ourselves defensively and in the bottom 6. Then we can either sign a UFA or hopefully our 15th overall/additional picks from this year is ready to contribute in 2 or 3 years.
  8. Every successful team needs to build through the draft. So yeah we have to hope one of our first or even second/third rounders turn out to be solid contributors in that timeframe, or at least look like a guarantee. Those that do usually emerge fairly quickly and show they belong in the line-up. Like a Zegras in Anaheim. If after 2/3 years not one pick is turning out then you might as well blow it up but that's life in the NHL. It's a super tough league. You need to draft well and have some luck. I can't recall any teams just UFAing their way to a CUP.
  9. Exactly. I think this shows how tight the margins are in hockey and how turning Miller into an extra important piece or two or three is a huge difference maker. It's very hard to get these pieces in other ways. In addition we can simply use that cap space for additional elite help as well.
  10. This is how I see it too. We have a lot of great Canuck pieces to love that could be right up there with the Sedin's, Linden, Bure. etc.. Hughes may be the best dman to ever play for the Canucks and he's a fiercely dedicated competitor. A surefire keeper as is Petey. What's not to love about this kid. He's special and he's ours. Similarly who doesn't love Demko and his attitude. Not to mention Pods, he could be my favorite player in a long time. From there we have a bunch of cool support guys but too much of that plus dead weight and our D is a mess. The bolded is it in a nutshell.
  11. Yes I can't quite comprehend how people can see all the holes in our team you mentioned and think this is fine we're good to go win a cup with a couple periphery moves. It's bloody outlandish! Like it just doesn't make any sense. I am baffled.
  12. Yes, and how many times have we lied to ourselves telling ourselves all of our players are going to get get better next year, so and so is going to emerge, guys like Dickie are going to play center, Subban, Hoglander, and Shinkaruk will easily get 20 goals a piece, Brock will hit 50 and all we have to do is get in the playoffs and we can win or better yet we should contend for the division so we make no changes or sale of UFA players only to see reality give us a sharp slap in the face by December next season and then repeat the whole stupid process at the end of the year. I swear we have the most gullible, and impatient fanbase in the NHL by far. You can just sell us mediocrity and false hope and we're lined up like a bunch of Lemmings ... or Bennings ... whichever you prefer. That's the whole point on this thread. The Canucks need to start acting like adults instead of spoiled brats who always choose poorly and never think about tomorrow or sacrifice for the future and do things correctly.
  13. Thank you voice of reason. We need ELC's and we need to start drafting to continually replenish the cupboards and stop selling ourselves short..
  14. Yeah @JM_ mentioned this the other day and not something I was currently thinking of but he is entirely correct as are you. Demko I believe has a lot of life left and I'm 85% confident on him keeping form and re-signing with us but that succession plan and subsequent training time with Clarke is crucial. We need to target a goalie and plan his development accordingly and like you say sooner than later. I agree next year at the latest.
  15. I believe qwijibo is a habs fan first and Canucks somewhere after that. He's got hopes and dreams too. His is just that the Habs don't waste any decent assets on Dipietro.
  16. I was quoting him lol. Misquoted you. I'm like you. I'd sure love that type of return but yeah we just need to get the best return possible and focus on the future. This whole worrying about next year and holding out for perceived rose colored glasses value is horribly short sighted. The guy I actually quoted apparently doesn't even think that's a good enough offer.
  17. Well enlighten us then. What should we expect back for Miller?
  18. Yup, it's almost like teams will do whatever they think it takes to win hockey games. Media tweets capturing a generalized thought process on a single topic at a given time is not a binding contract or applicable to all other scenarios forever more never to be broken or updated until the end of time.
  19. I think that's a horrible trade. No way I'm giving them our first for some desperate attempt at some insane luck. First of all there is no way the Rags miss the playoffs with Miller and Garland, let alone win some 3% lottery if they by chance finished 14th = 16th. Big no on that one. Take out the picks or make ours a second next year and I'd change my mind.
  20. So I'm sure everything you wrote is informative and a good read ... but I couldn't concentrate at all. It's killing me. Who did you take at 13?
  21. There is more then one way to skin a cat as they say. One thing is certain though GM's want to win and they are like politicians. Their word to the public is pretty much platitudes and truth for now until they do something completely different to try to win. Hockey shelf life is short. Teams change direction rapidly all the time and without warning.
  22. Yeah touché, people can collect tweets and read hero charts but it's no substitute for actually knowing hockey.
