[Rumour] Pearson and Dickson Being Shopped
Gawdzukes replied to Drive-By Body Pierce's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Ah no I don't see it like that. It may have been fairly expensive but he has given us the opportunity to fill our morning bitching about him. I feel this has been a very productive morning for myself. -

Good post Musty. I will also add he wasn't really brought in to be a 3C. The message was that he would have an opportunity to play there if he could adapt (he didn't). It wasn't set in stone and was more of an old hope throw on JB's part. I think Sutter was always penciled in there or Miller/Petterson/Bo was the default plan. -

The thing with that is we didn't even need a player like that really. We had Podkolzin, Hoglander, Pearson, Garland, Highmore, and Motte, plus the AHL crap like Petan, Dowling, Dries, etc., and even Chiasson, and Lockwood. What we needed was a genuine 3C, not wasting 2.65 on yet another swiss army knife 3rd liner with no real role. I've really given him a chance though. I like the kid, he was almost in tears in an early interview over how bad he was playing. -

It seems like sometimes a player can struggle for an entire season after being traded before he becomes comfortable or finds his niche. Dickinson is also a swiss army support player who makes teams difficult to play against and can line-up anywhere. Miscast as a center by lots of people here. In his defence I can see how a player like himself struggled during the hellish start of the season. Wasn't much opportunity to carve out a niche in that sh!tstorm. -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Oh I know. Just joking around. That's why Pittsburgh makes decent sense. He went to school in Pittsburgh as well. Unless you're friends with JT though you don't know what he's looking for either. I know from experience athletes are motivated by different things. Some athletes are hellbent at being in the spotlight and are constantly looking for the best team where they can shine and be #1. They will always look for the best chance to win. Others (who I like) are in it for the competition and live for the challenge. They would rather grow together as a team, meet the challenge, and be the player who carries his team to be a champion. Maybe he is a guy who listens to reason or people and will sign with who has the best pitch. Maybe he's in love with his home state. Who knows ... point being we shouldn't be taking them off the list until JT takes them off the list, although I will agree it seems unlikely for the reasons you've listed. -

He is from Ohio, although his birth city of East Palestine is 300 km from Columbus. Maybe he loves cannons? -
[Speculation] Canucks exploring Tyler Myers trade

Our insanely good RD isn't something I'd be going out of my way to keep together? I don't quite get the argument of not being able to replace mediocrity. -

It would be nice to have two shutdown guys and a young third pairing RD with some offensive upside while having a young third pairing LD with some size and shutdown ability. Lol if wishes were horses beggars would ride. Mayfield Zadorov Roy Manson Carlo Man those things are just absolute rubbish. Might as well just pick some random numbers out of a hat. I agree though, what else would you call them? I would way rather roll with Marino Lyubushkin than Myers Poolman and save 2 mil at the same time, plus have Marino signed for an extra 2 years when Myers is 34. -

I would take that contract if we addressed our right D concerns, get a functional bottom 6 assembled, had some assets in the pipeline, shed a bunch of cap, and acquire some toughness while keeping the rest of the core in tact. Then if we have 10 - 12 mil in cap space I'm totally on board for keeping Miller at $8.5. That would be a good team. -

For me it's too many mental errors when he plays that much and a general lack of mobility in our own end. Really not great offensively either. Didn't he play third pairing in Winnipeg behind Bufuglien, and Trouba? I guess if that's the best we can do and he's irreplaceable I'm a little disappointed for $6 million. Do we even need a workhorse on RD when we have Quinn and OEL pumping out big minutes? Could we possibly allocate that money and playing time better over two players who compliment #43 and #23, while also having a semblance of a succession plan at the same time? -

At this point I'm pretty much on par with excitement on who James Neal is narrowing it down to for this upcoming season. -

Mostly it's because he takes massive risks, often in his own end, and gets burnt lots. If they kept track of irresponsible turnovers he's be in the top 5. As it stands he's about 30th overall in the league. It's a lot and it's an issue although he cleaned it up in the last half of the year. -

Ugg no way, that would be an absolutely horrible contract for us. At the end of the day/contract there is no way I want to be saddled with a 7 or 8 million dollar anchor contract for any length of time. We're talking about player name territory again by the end. You just can't compete in this league if you're knowingly throwing away money, especially at 8 million dollar hits. We'd basically be selling our future in hopes a non playoff team wins the cup in the next couple of years. Seems unnecessarily naïve and foolhardy. But like you said if you think you can compete next year then that's different. I think that's crazy though lol. I see way too many flaws on this team. We are not at all close enough in my opinion. It's akin to shooting yourself in the foot. JR and Allvin have said as much so I hope they follow through on that message. If he comes dirt cheap though like less than market value and 5(6) years then you would have to consider it. -

That would be pretty awesome. Upper level GMing. If they could do that I could be on board. My biggest concern is timeline. Everybody needs to be on board and working together towards a single goal (whatever that is) and the plan appears to building for a 2-4 year competitive window. All moves should be done with that at the forefront. JT is a bit of a mystery box ... really hard to predict him next year for him let alone 3 years out but if he comes as a cheap complimentary piece he is an option. Pretty doubtful though ... just doesn't match the timeline at all. -

I guess ... (I don't consider it fluke) but 99 points is over ppg as well and that sizable adage = big bucks in the NHL. We're talking .83 ppg in 3 seasons prior vs 1.2 ppg ... that's massive. I call that a breakout. The concept is still the same though either way. I don't even know if we would have done it without JT's big year but I would do 5 yrs times 7 I guess if I had a gun to my head. We don't get any assets back this way though and I'm completely against returning the same team and same plan next year. In addition he's also going to be 32+ when we hope to be competitive. I mean if there is some way we can return assets, sign him cheap and build for the future I'm on board but in no way do I want to be the Van City JT Miller's where we're bending over backwards to cater to him while ignoring the actual important matters ... all at the expense of the team. The bottom line is we're just not in a position to be handing out big retirement contracts. Unfortunately we're not good enough. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

We'll either get a replacement or two through trade, the 2OA could most likely step right in, or we sign a ufa or two for a couple years using the $9 million we saved on JT. Who really cares about who fills the scoring next year anyways? The next couple of years are about fleshing out the roster to be competitive in two to three years time. I think I'd actually draft Cooley at 2 myself and start him on his elc in 2023. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The fact that JT broke out like he did has really skewed the landscape of this player and confuses a lot of the casual fans, who I would admit get fairly get caught up in the hype train. I mean who doesn't like a 100 point breakout player? I think of it this way. If JT remained at 60-70 point pace he is still a good player and someone any team would like. However, with the way we were building our team, our young budding stars making bigger money, and salary cap issues it was always a stretch we were going to sign JT to another contract again anyway. It would have been hard to fit in him money wise but a 4-5 year deal at around $7 was something we would consider ... and I still think it could have gone either way depending on where we were at. However now that he broke out and is looking at an extra 2 or 3 years at an extra 2 or 3 million it's a real easy "no way Jose". Grab some good assets and move on. Thus is hockey, you can't just sign everyone forever unfortunately and this is a total no brainer. I honestly can't believe there are some folks out there that still can't see this even though it couldn't be more obvious. Yes this team needs to make some building block moves, even if it results in a couple tough years. There is no way we have success just continuing as we were. -

lol It'll be a late night = who the heck is he? Okay note to self, use words like board battles, transitional skater, room to grow, workable project, responsible, two-way player, sees the ice well, needs to work on skating stride, etc.. Okay Chris ... you got this! -
