[Signing] Canucks sign Nils Aman

You know. Just a man. -
Haha. Yeah It's not like anyone is straight up trying to call anyone wrong or chastise someone or anything. Just having a little conversation where hopefully people can try to understand each other's viewpoints. These are the types of people where if you say the sky is blue they will say well it's really not it's bluish violet but since purple light has a higher energy it gets scattered more than blue and really it's more of a physiological interpretation issue where this scattering refers to the scattering of electromagnetic radiation (of which light is a form) by particles of a much smaller wavelength, and therefore blah blah blah. They can't just say yeah it's possible but I really think it's unlikely.

Yeah I get your concerns and they are definitely valid but I hear stuff like that most years and yet there are good players in every draft. You know some say it's one of the most average drafts but to me it sounds more like one of the most unknown drafts due to Covid. If drafts are a crapshoot anyway how can anyone really know beforehand how strong they are? I've heard a lot of flip flops a year or two after drafts. One thing is that with the second overall you can be pretty sure regardless of the year what you're getting (a top notch prospect). I'd be more worried about value and busting if I was NJ trading for the 15th (or 20-30 picks) to be honest. That carries risk, the second overall not so much for me compared to any other year. It's simply a rare opportunity I wouldn't pass up regardless of the inherent risk. I would also question whether there are any sure things out there anyway in a Miller trade. Good conversation though. I'd be happy with the second and even more happy with your deal. Edit: I was going to add after picking up Dickinson, Poolman, and Chiasson lately I'm willing to take a bit of risk to get a better player in return.

Realistically they should just sell the franchise instead of making an effort ... cause finding a goalie is so unlikely. Or I guess before they sell maybe trade Hughes, Hughes, Hirschier, Bratt, and Holtz and just draft 5 goalies in the first round. If one of them doesn't work out in 2 years then sell the franchise. This is a good plan. I swear the nuances of hockey are lost on some here.

Some folks really seem to be focused on what they would do and assume their way is correct and everyone else is wrong. There are many ways to approach a hockey team and adding Miller to the Devils isn't this insane proposal some are making it out to be, and does in fact have some strong merit. Of course there are many reasons for and against. Like you said it's just an opinion and ultimately the one that matters is actually the guy making the shots. None of us know exactly what they are planning or what their state of mind is regarding the team.

I think anytime you are getting a pick that high you have to assume the risk as part of the reward. That's part of the price. What else are you thinking like Holtz or something? Personally I think we'd be extremely lucky not to have to add our 15th, and I would be super stoked. I'm not a GM though. Maybe you need to have another piece in the rare case a 2nd busts just so you don't look dumb. The way I see it #2OA blows Chytil, Lundqvist, and a first out of the water ... but that's just me. Maybe I just love draft picks too.

Exactly. At some point you just want to win and do your best to make it happen. Some people forget about the pressure of putting out a winner and think just tanking for 2 or 3 years is no big deal. If all teams operated like that we'd have 6 good teams pushing for the Cup and 26 teams all tanking hard. Players like Miller, Subban, Malkin, Strome, Maata, Shultz, Perron, C.Miller, Zadorov, Butcher, would all get pushed out of the league in favor of young players that suck, since nobody wants to win unless the stars are all aligned. Good post!

Yeah it's a long shot for sure. I wouldn't do it if I was Jersey ... but we are bored, on a message board and in the offseason. What is the harm in speculating? Teams like Detroit, Buffalo, Ottawa, and New Jersey, are all poised to go from collecting draft picks to being competitive in the East. There were zero teams that were close to making the playoffs and didn't in the East. It just depends on who is making the decisions and when they decide to make a push. So many driving factors behind these decisions that we aren't privy to. It shouldn't really be an outlandish shock if any one of these teams decided it's time, or if there are some surprises next year. That's why the NHL is entertaining. Unfortunately the Devils won the lotto or else this option would have far more legs.

So teams can't decide to get better by adding good players? That's a super lame way of thinking if you're a Canuck fan ... or any fan really. It might not be the most popular, or the way you would build a team, or even the best route/clearly full of risk but to pretend it's not a possibility (or like you say ANY interest) for the Devils to take is just being simple minded. Why on earth wouldn't an NHL team want to get better, and why wouldn't Miller possibly help any team in the world do that? It's just hockey. Every GM and team is in a different place. At the very least a team like Jersey would think/consider it. That's just due diligence and doing your job. Just because you've considered it doesn't mean you have to do it. It seems so odd on this site there is a faction of people that seem genuinely upset (@shiznak) that a fan on a Canucks message would speculate about an ideal trade for their team ... in the middle of our off season while nothing else is going on except draft talk. No one is saying this is going to happen for sure or trying to convince anyone important but this is one team that originally stated their first is tradeable, and they also have some plausible reasons to do so. For the record, Jersey has more young talent then we do, and their cap situation is light years ahead of ours. For anyone that follows hockey closely this is the exact type of team that can make a big jump in the standings with a couple shrewd moves. Also they just signed another long term vet in Hamilton just last year. Where is your logic on this $63 million dollar, 7 year signing for a 28 year old top UFA, or doesn't he count?

Yeah for sure. In hockey the players have a lot more power and leverage. It would be nice for us regular folks. lol If you're Lindros you just tell the company they just hired you. -

Yeah it's not the strongest source. My apologies. Just trying to help out. -

He could be just getting a better feel for where he wants to go. It seems to me that would be a good idea after gaining some information and a feel for the landscape. Now he can go back and clear up anything that came to mind/concerns or follow up questions after processing the interviews. You ever have an interview and then figured you forgot something after? -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'd trade Miller in a heartbeat for a chance at one of those guys (hope we do) ... not Bo though then you're left with no Center support moving forward, and leaving Petey to sink or swim. Then you're going to need another top 5 pick to replace Bo. What you're proposing is a rebuild selling off both Bo and Miller and hoping the resulting assets can jump into the NHL and make an impact within 2-4 years. I just don't think it's worth it. You have to have some veteran leadership ... who better than Bo? -

Holy that would be incredible. Looks more like a 30-40 point guy to me. I'm not that excited about his trajectory. This is the only year he scored more than 37 points ... in Russia. He does seem like a goal scorer though. 13,12,14,18,20, in the last 5 years. I'd be pretty ecstatic with a 15-15 year to be honest. Of course I don't know much anyone else doesn't. Kaprizov only had 5 more points in his last year but way better goal totals. Kuzmenko has decent size too but who knows if he can play a bottom 6 role if need be. Doubtful. Mostly like @VegasCanuck I find most of the Russian players flame out despite similar hype every year. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Hockey is real difficult when you only have 4 guys playing against 5 every single shift. Let's face it our right side adds nothing to the game and most often are just defensive liabilities with absolutely no offensive contributions besides the rare decent play by Myers. This topic is funny. Bo isn't going anywhere. Once again the guys clamoring for Miller and wanting to dump Bo instead don't get that no one is against Miller and there is no reason to put either guy down. They just don't understand NHL hockey. -

You mean all this time I've been watching NHL players are like actors and are only like 5"8 average height in real life? -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Sure looks like a force to be reckoned with. Forsberg will be hard to nab though. I hope Garland finds a permanent home in the top 6. After all we are paying him 5 mil a year. I could be wrong but it seemed like BB used him on the third line often. I'm thinking Allvin/JR are going to move to a more traditional bottom 6 containing some size and jam, although they definitely like some scoring on 3 lines as well. -

Agreed. Decent points, obviously a goal scorer but not over the moon and low assist totals for a junior top 10 forward pick. Yeah I like OEL a lot so I'm not condemning the players we got back but it sure would be nice to actually have some up and coming prospects. -

Yeah I'm very interested to see where Garland fits in with our direction. He's an enigma for me. Really good skills but where does he fit in? Is he primed for a spot on Petey's wing, or does his stature play into that? He didn't seem to play much with Bo ... although I could be wrong on that. Or does he spend time on a newly created third line? I think that's one area that the GM needs to be cognizant of when building the team, unlike JB who seemed to just give the coach a bunch of random players and hoped the coach could assemble them in a winning formula. Here's hoping for a breakout. One thing seems evident with those junior stats is he would do well paired with a good shooter. Hmmm, maybe him and Bo would be good after all. lol that 5"10 has got to be a bit off -

Yes, hopefully Miller pays that pick back ... and then some. Here's the guy that could be in our system. His 45 46 91 stat line is looking pretty darn good. I personally would have taken Sillinger. We need to be like some other teams where they have numerous prospects at each position. It's not like you can have too many center or D prospects .... it seems we've never had more than one top notch prospect in our pool. Period, let alone multiples at one position.
