[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah they must be able to get a general idea and at least whether he'd be interested in signing long term and at what price point and term. As for Miller here that's way to long for my liking but the dollar amount is alright. My biggest concern right now (thanks negative Nancy posters for being so diligent and pointing out all the reasons we won't get a good return ) is that we're left with offers like the Montreal 26 and 29 some poster suggested or Debrusk and a first. What if JT is 100% out of the door, do we just take anything for him? I probably would reluctantly. I don't want to play guessing games and waste an entire season on this myself. Time to pick a direction, plot the course, and get the galver pointed the right way. Can we just fast forward one month? It's still a little chilly here anyway. -

Okay ... thanks yeah I was aware of that free week last year but that is for UFA's, not signed players. So when do this years contracts start then, July 7th, July 8th, July 9th, July 13th? I still see them starting on July 1st regardless of when the draft is because you need to be under contract. Do you have something regarding existing contract dates themselves being extended as well? Also as per Bartlett summer starts June 21st. Just Joking ... kind of lol I still feel that teams may be able to work around this but if it's iron clad it sure would negatively impact the types of trades that could happen. I seem to recall a couple trades in the past where a trade was made without a new contract and then long term deal was signed during the year with that player but I can't remember specifically right now. -

Are you absolutely sure about that? I've seen contradictory reports and have noticed you sprinkling this concept in to your posts lately. I haven't seen anything concrete on this from an NHL standpoint though one way or another. If you happened to have a link it would be appreciated. I had thought it was somewhat stipulated in the CBA but the general convention was that teams could work around that on an informal basis in the past. Maybe I'm confusing that with something else though. If it is the draft does that mean the second it starts or when is that exact date and time on that? I thought a yearly NHL contract ran until June 30th. I found this (below) although it relates to UFA's it seems to indicate that contracts do end on June 30th, meaning JT would be in his final year starting July 1, and therefore fully able to sign a new contract before the draft on July 7. -

Yeah they would be a good partner. It's a shame NJ won the lotto as they would have been prime trade partners too. It seems to me that the last (3) Covid seasons have kind of depleted some peoples ability to remember how hockey works. You get the odd fan reminding us of how good Miller is and that you don't just lose good point producing hockey players unless you get someone equal back. Except it happens all the time when you have an emerging player coming to the end of his contract on a mediocre team. That's hockey. These people act as if none of us noticed Miller had a 'not bad' year. If only hockey was as simple as throwing big money at your top players to retain them without thinking about the landscape, future direction, and other teams actions. -

Ummm, whatever man. Not trying to get into a huge argument here. Don't know where the Kesler thing came from. I think Chytil has shown he's not an utter piece of garbage but/and I'll agree with whatever it is your trying to say. lol. Why don't you just tell us what the trade should be since you seem to have everything figured out? Also no one is screaming and no one, absolutely no one anywhere on earth, and certainly not here called Chytil the next Patrice Bergeron. Maybe you should settle down? -

Yeah I don't think a lot of people are going to look at the trade and be thrilled at first. It will take a player just like Chytil, and a draft pick working out to make the trade successful. I'd imagine there will be a sh!t tonne of handwringing and posters in utter despair when the trade goes down. Haha, it'll be good for the laughs. Some people just don't see how valuable a piece like that can be. Especially considering how ugly and unimpactful our bottom 6 has been for years now. How nice would it be to have a player that can contribute now, that we're actually happy to pencil in the roster, and can possibly move up in the future ... while being young, fast, cost controlled, and big, and simply be a lesser part of the Miller return. -

Aren't you a brand new poster? The Chytil suggestion has been getting flack on here for over 2 months now because people wanted more plug and play players who were more worth the value of Miller. Like you said Chytil is a 21st overall. What are you expecting ... Heiskanen, Suzuki, Norris, Necas, who went in the same draft? I hear what you're saying but Chytil was a third piece in the suggested package. If you're suggesting trading for only one player with more potential sure I would like that too but that's an entirely different conversation. Something like Cody Glass perhaps is more up your alley? -

I mean this is the generation of players who will be better then Miller in 3-4 years, and where the next Miller's will come from. That's the chance you have to take, no one is just going to just trade you Aho, or Kaprizov already develped like some posters wanted when the scoffed at Chytil as a piece of the trade. This is where you have to rely on scouting, chances of success, and some luck. But no Chytil is not Miller but a player I'm on record for as acceptable in a trade for Miller. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Andrei Kuzmenko

Yeah I don't think Kane would appreciate that. He's also a loose screw so maybe he goes into the tank with an announcement like that. It's also a distraction to the team in general. The fans, players, and organization should be focusing on a SC playoff run. Not picking up the pieces and looking towards next year. This year isn't over yet. Bad media focus and bad mojo. I think this guy is going to flop anyways ... I'm only mildly interested. And Gusev was quite a bit better. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=180618 -

Yeah that's soccer too. I can't stand those entitled babies. I refuse to watch club soccer anymore. These clowns like Ronaldo get jealous when someone signs a new contract that's bigger than theirs, or they don't win everything, or they're just bored because the spotlight isn't on them. Then they just tear up their contracts, and sign with a new team for an extra 30-50 million. Most players probably don't play more than 2 years with any team. Watching club soccer is more like watching the Dow Jones report (rich guy's bank account) than a soccer game. NFL I don't care because I'm mostly in it for the Fantasy Football and the betting. -

I'm not crazy about our top 6 wingers. I think ultimately one or two of Pearson, Garland, or Hoglander, needs to be upgraded into a legit top 6 ... but good start. I could live with that for a year and then look to upgrade the forwards next year. Like @aGENT suggested it would be nice to replace Poolman with a cheapish stay at home defender as well. I like it though. -

Well maybe people can use this to understand trading depleting assets for prospects. Some people wants polished 30 goal prospects but that's unrealistic. These are the next generation of players who are going to be the 'next' Millers. There is always some element of unknown and that's why you're able to trade for them. Oh well. The Chytil has left the building. Hopefully people aren't sleeping next time around. -
Carolina couldn't score on the PP. Brock's specialty.

Ah whatever label you need or Canucks failure makes you happy I guess. I don't think it's nearly as impossible as wining the lottery. That seems a pretty silly example if you know statistics at all. After winning the hockey lottery 3 times in 6 years and with a boatload of prospects and young stars I think it's more than impossible they consider the trade. But if you just can't fathom it that's completely your perogative. I see it's extremely important to some people that we have no options. So be it. I'm glad guys like you aren't running the team. I'd still be attempting to make a deal instead of just giving up before doing my due diligence, even if the deal is improbable as you say. Oh and by the way when I said not probable that kind of means ... da da duh ... improbable!

Teams want players for a variety of reasons. That's the beauty of sports, GM's and teams even do irrational things. After all it's only a sport and impulsive and rash decisions happen often and can greatly influence the league. They simply would have to look at it and think they have a way better chance of winning with Miller. They just have to view him as a better player and all people have different views on players and their skill levels. Maybe they have a relationship with said player or followed him since he was young, maybe they don't want an asshole like Kadri in their mix. He's also 3 years older. Maybe those guys are interested in other teams. Look no further than the Chiasson vs Gadjovich debate this year ... we're talking fringe fourth line players here. Most fans were in an uproar even though Chiasson proved he was a better player in the long run people fought over that like cats and dogs. You don't really have to agree with it you just need to understand that everyone rates players, their plans, and direction differently. So it is entirely possible, perhaps just not entirely probable. Lots of moving parts here.

In all fairness they have bigger fish to fry. Plus it's hard for those college/euro ufas to know what our line-up is and thus what if any opportunity exists. -

It would be nice to grab one. I don't see them giving us two RD like that. -
That would be awesome!
