  1. except for the fact that they're very different players. Miller is not getting Rust's contract lol
  2. It's Sidney Crosby. He was probably worth $11.1 and certainly 10. And he's certainly worth $8.7+++ during the duration. I think that was 100% a team friendly deal on which he had to know he'd be severely underpaid for a good portion of the deal. He's the best player in the game since Mario.
  3. lol murderville, I rarely got this level, always super pumped
  4. Yes this is very true. @Warhippy did you take into account that he's only playing 3rd line and they had no necessity or reason to play him in bigger minutes? I watched quite a bit of him before he was drafted. I think the chances of him ending up one of the better players in the league would be a good bet to take.
  5. Better than the Vancouver Flames (arse burners) I guess. That would be a massive trade. I would absolutely take that chance myself but yeah let's not pretend he's some additional piece to this trade lol. I drool at the thought of he and Petey (or even Bo too) growing on a line together. Incidentally that's one thing JR mentioned that I 100% agree with. Getting Petey a younger regular line mate who can push the needle as well and grow together in the future. I think that's probably a real fair starting point although I think I differ from a lot of folks in that I am pretty keen on adding 1st round picks in the next 2 drafts in order to beef up the stable so to say. So it would be real tough to give up another first but I guess we could take their 25th overall back. Where on earth do you get these ideas from? Okay I re-read that and I see where I went wrong. Where on Earth Melmac do you get these crazy ideas from?
  6. Schnieder, Kakko, Lundqvist, Lafrenier, Kravstov, Othmann, Chytil, and a 1st. For Miller. Miller is awesome but I would consider the above in a trade. Heck I'm even willing to throw in Dickinson and Poolman just cause I'm a nice guy.
  7. Maybe you've never played competitive sports before but he certainly quit pursuing hockey at it's highest level. He quit playing in the NHL. That part isn't in question even if you want to dance around semantics. Obviously he's never had the drive to be the best he could and play at the highest level because he gave up pursuing that as soon as he had a couple modest obstacles in front of him. If you want to be finicky I suppose you could say he didn't "quit" because he didn't care in the first place. I guess you don't know this but when you're an athlete you can't just dictate where you want to play and set your own rules if you want to be the best, you go where the competition takes you. 16:52 TOI while earning your ice time as a rookie is nowhere near "hardly seeing the ice", as you stated. It's normal and it's a good number. In fact Jack Rathbone has averaged 14:37, and Tanev averaged 16:38 over his first 92 games. I don't see those guys quitting because of ice time, or anyone else in the NHL for that matter. Podkolzin has played the exact same # of games Tryamkin did, 79. I guess he should take himself and his 12:47 in ice time back to Russia too where they'll respect him like he deserves. Also there were lots of reports that he didn't want to work hard. From coming into camp horribly out of shape, from refusing to go work on his conditioning in the AHL, from complaining about ice time, complaining about his role, refusing to earn ice time like everyone else, and turning tail when the going got tough and going home. All signs of not being willing to put in the work required to play in the world's best league. You keep comparing these leagues as if they're equal and he simply chose another team or something. That's just completely way off base and miles from reality. The reason I'm butthurt as you so eloquently ask is not as a Canucks fan (he's blah anyway) but as an athlete. Most athletes give all they can, pursue their dreams to the fullest, and push through all the obstacles they can endure until they have to concede and give up on their dreams. Tryamkin reached a level most can only dream of and had a prime opportunity handed to him and turned his back on that after the tiniest hint of tribulation. That's weak, pathetic and a slap in the face to all those who put 100% into making the NHL and didn't even get the chance he just squandered away. For those guys it's about way more than money. Choosing money over the NHL is not admirable. And we were prepared to offer him a contract if he wanted to play. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-nikita-tryamkins-decision-to-take-khl-deal-dripping-in-drama
  8. I totally but respectfully disagree. In my opinion as an athlete he absolutely did quit competing at the highest level his sport offers. Clearly the NHL is the pinnacle of a pro hockey career, and he didn't even give it an honest effort. I believe he had an offer and then turned tail and went back home to Russia. That's the definition of quitting. How many guys would have killed for a chance like that?
  9. I sure do think Anderson would be a good player to have though and I like your money breakdown. We need to fill the #2 and #3 RD and number #3 LD, #7, and #8 cheaply to offset Hughes, OEL, and someone real gud on RD.
  10. Oh thanks. Shows what I know lol. I thought he played C in Nashville? I always liked his physical in your face play combined with a nose for the net.
  11. Yeah, on Myers I'm likely not being entirely rational. For me I just hit a point with some guys where I want them gone. Myers is in that boat. I cringe every time he touches the puck in our own end. People like to say he eats minutes, which he does but he also makes tonnes of mistakes and boneheaded plays when he plays those big minutes. So I'm not sure that's helping or hindering. He has a hard time processing the speed of the game when the puck first drops let alone after 24 min toi. 3rd line 18 min a game. Perfect. Anymore he turns into a liability for me. One thing people should take into account is like Miller's upcoming contract in which he'll be overpaid for the last several years these are the years of Myers we're talking about. The last 2 years of his third contract. So it's expected he's going to be a bit overpaid. I like your setup and that's my preference as well. Jensen I like but Anderson is a lefty. I'm not a fan off offside dmen. We've seen it tried in Van with pretty poor results.
  12. I'd want to bump up that 2nd to a 1st if that's me but it looks like they don't have one. Maybe a 2023 second as well then or another asset to round that out. I agree with bulking up. Forbort sure fulfills a physical 3rd liner role which compliments Hughes and OEL better than Rathbone. He'd be a terriffic fit imo. I'd rather pay him $3m then Myers $6m. I don't think it's bad value at all. He's 6'4, 220lbs and provides the same value at half the cost. Having said that I don't think that happens as JR seems pretty high on Rathbone. It looks like he'll get his shot this year as JR said he'll be with Canucks next year for sure. Smith has always been a target of mine. There is our 3C but he is 32 years old. Had 16 goals and 36 points playing 74 games.
  13. I wouldn't entirely hate Hall as a player. I think he could some damage with Petey on LW and he's a lethal PP guy ... but not what I'd want for Miller at all. Forbort is a big physical player I like quite a bit ... although he's been an ahole a couple times we played against him. Signed for 2 years ... 30 years old. Money is not too bad but pushes Rathbone out as well.
  14. He's kind of like a sideshow at the circus. He's literally a giraffe on skates. He actually skates pretty good "for a big man" but really that's where it ends. It's kind of entertaining to watch but it doesn't really accomplish anything and gets boring pretty quickly. His end to end individual rushes do next to nothing as he always loses the puck after and he's not good at clearing his own zone either. Imo he's worth/good as a 4.5m physical deterrent/PKer third liner on a good team. I don't want him playing second line on my team. If you play him that much with big minutes eventually the puck is just ending up in your own net. He's like a change of pace running back.
  15. Love these quotes. Analytics are just a tool. One must use their eyes and most importantly their brains/hockey knowledge. Not just some non-contextual statline. Also defence and structure is what wins games, not doing whatever the hell you want and taking crazy chances whenever it suits you. Maybe they can teach Myers to simply clear the puck out of our zone from the corners instead of trying to pass it to anyone. He processes the game way to slowly in combination with his massive turning radius.
  16. This is exactly it. He's great as like a third pairing d who plays lots of PK minutes and can play up the lineup. You need to kind of hide him amongst more skillful defensive players so the other teams don't prey on his weaknesses. Then he becomes a strength. But like you say $6m is a lot for big body support player.
  17. Yes, great post. Just imagine how much further ahead we would be if we did things correctly. That's how you build a team these days. To many shortcuts in the last 10 years has left us in purgatory with nothing in the pipeline. Hopefully we take some serious steps towards correcting that this summer.
  18. Yeah I agree it could be more trouble than not. I just don't think it can get much worse. I personally just find big, immobile, d-men aggravating and very hard to plan safety nets around. They need some real puck movers on the other side and the same side to insulate them from getting targeted and taken advantage of. Or maybe it is a matter of coaching as has been alluded to. It's very hard to trust guys like that with the game on the line. Imo he's great as a second/third line/PK deterrent but he gets really stinky sometimes. I think I'd be a lot more fine with him if we had a player that actually moves the needle offensively on the RD to take the heat off Myers. You're in trouble when he's you're fastest, fittest, and quicker player on the right side. I guess I'd personally rather have a Manson type than Myers. All I know is I'm getting pretty tired of him setting up the opposition for goals what seems like every game. Yeah I wasn't really arguing your actual point ... just shooting the sh!t lol. I can't even imagine but probably twice what Crosby is making now.
  19. Well I just wanted to make a reply gif but I did look at Crosby's $8.7 the other day and think wow this guy is worth $30m a year for what he's done in hockey and for the pens. I'm pretty sure he signed for less than people thought he could. But umm I don't know you don't think Crosby could have signed a shorter deal for more money and then signed another one at at least the same price? He's easily worth $8.7 for another 3 years imo.
  20. I just wish he was more of a playmaker with all that elusiveness. I don't know maybe it's his line mates. He always seems to hang on to the puck for such long periods without accomplishing much. He's fun to watch though and I like him as a player so I digress. He's feisty and a gamer which is a good playoff mentality.
