  1. 100% agree on Takahasi. He seemed like a Baumgartner type guy here. Everyone just loved the guy and never seemed to question his results ... in the organization I mean. He seemed super dedicated but as you say our strength and conditioning seemed to be a weakness in comparison to other teams. I never recalled our teams overpowering other teams, being ultra fit, or show much in terms of improvement throughout the season in the last decade. And oh yeah the injuries were atrocious. Maybe his methods are out of date. Either way. Upwards and onwards.
  2. There it is. I told people to chill. He just had to sign his side of the contract.
  3. Ummm, nope completely way off base. I was talking purely about how many points he will put up which was the topic I was replying to. I have no idea where you're getting these picks thing and EP being 6 years older thing from. I'm simply saying he had a lot of opportunity, like I said. You are correct though, it wasn't "perfect" in the sense he didn't have the greatest line-mates. They changed a lot but he was always on line #1, the PK, the PP, and got prime opportunity in every single game he played, which was the point. Even the keep Miller supporters should be able to accept simple facts. It's not a criticism at all, just an observation ... like he got a lot of points this year. My post above this explains a little better maybe. But yeah I say trade him because he'll be regressing in two to three years when our most important players will be in their prime. Sign a player we can't afford to a massive contract then if we're banging on door and have a better team.
  4. I was just trying to say with Covid messing with all the line-ups, postponed games and such lots of players missed games, line-ups were changing every game but Miller still got in 80 games with supreme opportunity, partially due to others unavailability. He absolutely made the most of it of course. Kudos to him. I'm just looking at it purely from a statistical point like an NFL (I'm big into this) or NHL fantasy pool player. When you're prognosticating for the upcoming year opportunity is always a huge factor, as is playing on a high scoring team. I would suspect in a draft next year Miller would be ranked to come off the board pretty high. Probably top 15 or so but many experienced drafters would be reluctant to take him so high based on possible regression and a new Canuck approach/real season where Miller doesn't get as many prime minutes. To be honest it's not a massive concern in this situation but it's definitely a point worth considering ... I think. If you look at Miller's ice time on the team this year it shows the opportunity he had. At 21.04 he's playing way more than all other forwards, and I suspect a 21.04 average ice time per game is pretty high for a forward.
  5. As the numbers have shown and people have somewhat alluded to the evidence for re-signing Miller comes down to a gut feeling he'll buck most trends and be a statistical outlier. I don't really like those odds and I'm unsure how he'll age. He could have the fire and gusto to persevere or his lack of footspeed and tough style or even complacency could dramatically slow him down in 4 years. I'm pretty concerned that this year was his first breakout year so late in his career. It seems as if this year was the perfect storm for him to put up points. He played on a team that was out 20 games in so he could play with reckless abandon for most of the season, he played a lot of PP, and he was healthy all year. Not that it's been a problem for him but between Petey's first half, Boeser struggling, injuries, weird line-ups, and Covid, Miller got an awful lot of opportunity to just pour in points. It may not be sustainable in a normal season. The poster you're responding to is putting him in a class with Crosby, Ovechkin, Bergeron, Letang, Marchand, Tavares, Kopitar, Pavelski, and Zuccarello. Does he belong there ... not a heck of a lot of evidence there for that imo.
  6. I'm pretty sure they got hammered by Covid and missed a crapload of games early. Before they even got going they were 20 points back. Only reason I remember this is I was looking at reverse standings already.
  7. Hughes can replace Boeser. He'll need to work on his shot a bit which is good anyway.
  8. Ummm, you're all over the board, I wasn't talking about whether or not JB should have been making the trade or not or whether we should keep Miller. I don't think we should fwiw. Regardless he's both increased in value and played better than anyone could have hoped for. JB knocked it out of the park. Whether people think it's fluke or not he hit it out of the park.. If you can trade for a 26 year old player who is making $5.25 in terms of today's cap and have him go from tied for 131st to 9th place for points in 3 years you do it. Even Arizona should do that trade today if offered a similar scenario. You still need to have good players on your team unless you're only lame ass plan is to tank for years on end. Then no .. you don't need any players or trades at all. Like really, good players are bad for teams now? By the way hockey is a team sport with 18 players dressed every game. Thinking one 3rd line player should take you that much closer to the cup is absolutely and utterly, simply, ridiculous, as is thinking Miller doesn't make this team a lot better than not having him.
  9. Actually just filled in there. Ryan Johnson said he'll be back on defense where he belongs next year. But yes he's close to a bustaroo at this point.
  10. Well we could trade him today for more than a first and a third. The player selected with that first pick has played zero games in the NHL and has 18 points in 3 years in Russia. We got 202 games and 217 points from Miller. In that sense we get a ppg player free for 3 years and can reinvest in a new 1st and third round pick ++ today/July. That's what I would call mightily successful. Miller has been pretty close to our best player. I don't think we would have played better with no one, do you? So we've had more success than we would have without him right ... not sure how you define success but I don't know how you're going to argue that. Or are you claiming Miller has made the team worse? Wow ... I'm speechless if so. I thought we were already at the bottom of this pit. That's a new one. No we didn't win the SC but that's clearly a successful trade in my books. I guess if one wants to be a schmuck no trade is good unless you win a Cup then right? Very few successful trades in the NHL if you look at it like this I guess. As I sit here typing this I wonder what bizarro world I'm in, or what planet I'm on where I'm up at 6 am defending the idea that JT Miller was a good trade for the Canucks. Bizarre... How utterly bizarre! I'm totally using that word every time I can today. BIZARRE! https://youtu.be/nc_f-0DCGI0
  11. Yep, they were absolutely looking to move Johnson or Killorn ideally. It was well rumored at the time and obvious to those who follow hockey. Miller was actually coming off a fairly mediocre year with little market desire/availability and a $5m contract. Really they simply had to sell one one of a handful of guys when JB swooped in and jumped on Miller. In hindsight it was an absolute master stroke. Really no two ways about it when you look at what we got out of him. He's worth more than we paid 3 years later, he's put up 217 points, he's been a backbone of the team, and he's an absolute fan favorite. What is there to argue lol?
  12. Umm. I said nothing at all about keeping Miller. I'm talking about this stupidity of calling the Miller trade a loss and criticizing Benning for the trade. It's piling on, it's over the top, it's not true. Call it what you want. Its just plain stupid.
  13. This is where these guys start sounding real dumb. They gotta pile the $&!# so high they can't even admit something like Miller was clearly a win in retrospect. Like talk about playing the fool.
  14. If anyone can manage that it's Hughes. He can retrieve pucks on either hand twice as good as most defenders and more than Myers by a factor of his neck size on any given day.
  15. I bought one of these a while back. I concur with most. The dual air hose ones worked great. Mine was 13,000 BTU's and worked awesome.
  16. Calling it now. NJ ends up 11th and wins again next year.
  17. lol, only 2 years left at 8 mil. I kind of like OEL though.
  18. I saw it suggested with OEL straight across on the HF Sharks board today. @JM_
  19. Exactly this. It's comical but yet very annoying. People love to pile on to the point that the stuff they're saying isn't true anymore and then they look like crazed vigilantes with pitchforks instead of reasoned thinkers. It's the same with Green. The whole Green pushed Zac crap MacEwen and Gadj Barfbag out was a management / team decision not one just made by Green one night after one too many drinks. It proved to be the right decision even in hindsight yet people are still calling Green out for it. Delusional at best.
  20. Okay carry on then man. I'll just turn the whining off on my end. Seems pretty sad to spend all your your time on here badmouthing hockey GM's when it's an insanely hard job with pretty much low success across the league by definition. You also really have no idea what he's doing 95% of the time. Seems like it's more of a not understanding hockey issue but if it makes you feel good do it. lol Does it make you feel better badmouthing Benning on every post, has it reversed the last 5 years? It's so simple on be a GM mode right?
  21. Oops, I mixed my numbers but you get the gist. It's a big number. Sorry I wasn't out trying to rip into Boeser but more so relaying much discussed concerns about his QO. I know you said moving up from 15 to 5 is inconsequential but I have to strongly disagree. That's a huge jump in draft capital and worth a pretty penny as they say. Probably worth a fair bit more than an unsigned Boeser, which was really the whole point of my post. For all the talk about fixing the RD that's the perfect move to get a possible future #1 RD. I would agree with your target, $6.75m is probably quite realistic. Not a massive number and still a good raise.
  22. Well it turns out we're closer in agreement then we thought. My original post wasn't worded very well which lead to some confusion. I do think his value jumps up with a contract but my feeling is you're a little high on that valuation. I'd be happy with one of those guys and a pick but I always bet low. I think there are a lot of teams out there that could use Brock moving forward. At the end of the day anyone who can pot 25 goals is a good player to have, even if it's PP driven.
