I've been saying this all season. Our right d sucks unbelievably bad and we spend half the game tossing the puck around in our own end. It was absolutely disgusting. I'm glad it's also clear to management. In the immortal words of @King Heffy. This is unacceptable AHL trash level defending. Please fix pronto.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Oh yeah I agree. Absolutely their #1 goal will be to capitalize on some team willing to overpay him big for an outlier career year. Anything could happen in a year, including him coming down to earth. We're first up. Hopefully we have the patience and intelligence to pass on such a deal and pass it on to someone else while reaping the rewards along with it. -

Yes this one more so the years than the money. But there was the show me the money tweet. If could be $8 or Bartlett could be in lala land and want $9.5. Both are horrible contracts though and would most likely bury us for years. We'll see what happens. Maybe this is Bartlett just letting Canucks fans down easy knowing he's too expensive for us. I sure hope Allvin is as pragmatic as he looks. This also the first time Stamkos has been healthy in 5 or 6 years so no doubt. He's also a first overall superstar playing on the SC champs. That's a pretty terrible comparison to buy if I'm Allvin and Co. -

To me that sounds an awful lot like we want top money and job security (i.e. 8 yrs) and while JT likes Vancouver it depends on whether they are willing to pony up. It was a slice JT. Great years here in Van. Take care out East. -

Did someone say Zack MacEwen. Might as well try for the all time loser Tryamkin while we're at it. Seriously horrible horrible idea. -

Plus an hour long special. Get to know Matthew's moustache. An Elliot Friedman production where we get behind the man and the beginning of his lip general to the completion of greatness. What it means to the team, the fans, and the city. A monument right up there next to the unknown soldier. A tribute to give hope to all Canadians, and indeed man kind everywhere! -

Some of us still care about the long term vision of our team, or I guess we become the Vancouver Miller's. -

He could also beat Gretzky at 36 and get 215 points. Do you guys like even attempt to live in the real world at all? Like c'mon that's bat$&!# crazy. Clearly not a very deep understanding of the NHL historically. -

OEL has quietly put together a very nice ending to the season. It takes a lot of players up to a year to acclimate to a new team. He's been a stud lately I'm not seeing an anchor contract. 29 points while not playing on the PP much is pretty damn good for an off year. @wai_lai416 He's not at all that bad or as unmovable as you think. -

Man so refreshing to hear a GM be honest without needing to reassure fans there is a definite plan in the works. That's hockey, a lot of read and react happens. -

Hey it's great to agree on something for once bud! I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy. I think these guys all learned some great things this year. Even if we didn't make the playoffs we got some of the same experience. I think anyone could clearly see the team really grew and stuck together through hard times. It can only benefit us greatly us the future. I hope most of the players are back next year too. Dickinson, Petan, and Chiasson can go for sure, although I could keep Chiasson as 13th forward. Filling those roles with tough players who can PK with some veteran leadership would pay some huge dividends. -

You're misreading me. I like him a lot but I'm also a player with over 40 seasons of personal experience. It's how we talk as athletes. Just because I point out flaws in a person's game it doesn't mean I don't like them. I'm just not going to pretend he's perfect. Just like I think Bure is spectacular I'm not going to encourage Lammikko to start going coast to coast every chance he gets. Miller doesn't "lose" games for us but those types of plays can and do lose games in the NHL. That stinker play in OT handed Calgary the win. You can't be wanting to teach young players that can you? In all fairness he has improved this aspect greatly in the second half of the year. Maybe if you read my post above it'll clear it up. -

Oh no he's a leader but he also makes Miller types of plays which at 29 he has mastered to some degree, but they are very risky. Besides the leadership Miller brings putting the team on his back, scoring tonnes of points, playing with passion, playing hard, playing fast, and ornery, never taking a shift off, speaking for the team, and leading by example we also need some veterans to tell the team when to take chances and when not to, how to protect a lead, when to push and when not to push, which types of plays are too high risk, and how to conduct yourself in high pressure situations. So I guess I would say not only is he a leader he is a very good leader in his own right but we also need other kinds of leadership. One person can't do it all. -

Yep, spot on. I had tried to back JB and give him the benefit of the doubt but he lost it this year. As you indicated no replacement at all for Sutter (how did I forget him) or Beagle, or any replacements in the bottom 6 except Chiasson who wasn't even a starter or necessarily going to make the team. Otherwise he was expecting Hoglander, Podkolzin, Lockwood, Dries, Highmore and Petan to lead the group. Add those guys to Petey, Garland, and Brock and it's easy to see how we lack leadership. Bo and Pearson are our best leaders on forward. Miller is a pretty decent leader but he's more of a motivator and an inspirational player. The last thing we need is guys like Petey trying some of the crap Miller does like back passes to no one in front of his own net or trying to beat someone through the legs when he's last man back, floating 1 foot behind his mark on the backcheck, or going one on three in overtime and then giving up when he loses it. These are all bad habits Miller can get away sometimes but also single-handedly loses games and is a piss poor example to the rest of the young players. Yes this team relies too much on goaltending and run and gun hockey. It's fun and all but doesn't produce winners unless you're absolutely stacked everywhere with talent. We are not. This is all related to leadership and playing the game the right way. -

This season was ... and the last two were absolute garbage due to Covid making it unfair, uneven, anger inducing, boring and incredibly lame. Hopefully next year we are completely done with Covid wrecking the season. Perfect time for a refresh. Change the team up, fix the RD, and get some toughness in the bottom 6. Hopefully the team isn't out of it by the end of November next year. That was the first time I've seen that in Canucks hockey in a long time. I mean you see it with the Blue Jays and half of baseball every year. The team is out of it by June with a 100 games left to play. OMG how do people enjoy that lol? -

That last part is dead on, an extremely good end in many ways. I would lean more towards it being quite possible we achieve a .600 level of play. I think your .638 is a little optimistic but at least it's reasonable. Myself I find it too risky to ink Miller to a long contract ($50m) to find out if they can improve on that. -

Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The core of our team is very young. It will take them time to mature. You can laugh but we lost a lot a lot of leadership when Beagle, Roussel, and Loui were dealt. We need some veterans in there who play the game the right way. OEL is a great step defensively. Plays like the ones where Peterson gives the puck away on the PP for a shorty to lose the game need to be corrected. The team also needs desperately to learn how to manage the games, as evidenced once again in the Minnesota game. We need to stop giving the puck away needlessly in our own end. Someone has to get these guys playing the game the right way, and responsibility is the key. It usually comes from a veteran presence. Bo is good but he's a younger Captain who has grown with the very players he's leading, and still learning and growing himself. I don't think we have bad leadership. We just need more of it. -

I was being sarcastic There are all these people that just want to erase part of the season and pretend we are better than we are. It's fairly common sense in sports circles not to just take part of a season and tell yourself you're better than you are while ignoring your faults and the actual results. You don't get better that way and it breeds complacency. It was pointed out above that we're actually only 13th best with Boudreau at the helm but one silly poster is actually trying to claim that somehow makes us 8th best in the league. It's non sensical at best. Realistically this tells us we're somewhere between 18 where we are now and 13. So even if we say we're closer to 15 or 14 that's still a fringe playoff team with 2 out of your top 6 needing raises or replacements, a completely re-worked RD, toughness, leadership and more. All with no money up against the cap. -

Come on Zhukini get real. Realistically Green was solely responsible for every loss at the beginning. Obviously the 23 players who were on the ice including Miller have absolutely nothing to do with those results. Then after the win streak we had some bad starts but that was also obviously due to Green again. In addition we were the only team to deal with Covid and cancelled games and such so those games we lost you can't count either. Then there is the reffing from the likes of Sutherland so that's another 5 games or so we should have won. Add in the Benning factor and Bettman hating us and really this is more like a 51-1-1 team. So really we're closer to a .950 team then .551 our record suggests. I would say we're guaranteed to win at least 6 of the next 8 Cups if we re-sign Miller.
