  1. Thanks, really good points. Yeah it seems like Allvin is throwing out a direct challenge to some guys/everyone on the team. In his couple statements after watching practice from the stands he seemed to imply that some of the players were lacking in professionalism. Whether that was work ethic or clowning around/seriousness who knows. Hopefully you're right I want to see some changes to improve the team. The Dickinson throw in is ballsy lol. I don't know we want to pay to get rid of Dickie though. Probably better to ride out the two years since we're not planning on being against the cap anyway don't you think? We could also get a pretty decent asset for Boeser couldn't we?
  2. Just a quick question here Alfie boy. Does your scooter also run on scotch and does it talk to you while you're out touring? I'm getting thirsty. I think you're getting carried away here on the management/ownership thing though. The main reason JT wasn't traded is that the management group is being overly cautious about these bigs moves. They will definitely define our next 6-8 years plus they will define the competency of the management group moving forward. Either way they are going to get royally slammed from one faction or another. So they better get it right, the hwole future depends on it. This gives them another 4 months or so to really nail the decision. I'm assuming they never got a real big offer and didn't really want to rock the boat at this point in time, especially with how the season was going. I think it's really benefitted the players going for playoffs down the stretch even if we didn't make it. In addition there is no logic in saying we can't still get a solid return on Miller if we choose to move him. My biggest worry is we trade Garland, sign Miller and Boeser, and ice the same team next year. Unfortunately I think this is a very distinct possibility. Allvin appears to be pretty timid and gun-shy.
  3. @JM_ Hey man. Sorry just moved the reply over here as it's more relevant to this thread obviously. Just wanting to get my overall thought process stated at once and not in bits and pieces. I'm not one glossing over the risks. In fact I realize it will be tough ... and most likely fail just like our other 44 years. I just feel it has a better chance than continuing on this course. Let me explain my viewpoint and how I arrived here. First off Covid has affected every one differently. For me the last two years I don't consider that real NHL hockey. Not playing in front of fans, shortened seasons, play-ins, postponed games, sick players, etc.. I definitely have an asterisk by those SCups for TB. Still I was one of the ones who desperately clung to our slim playoff hopes all of last year. This year has been absolute garbage as well. From the Hamonic debacle to massive Covid problems, to injuries, cancelled games, our record, and finally Green and JB. Which leads me to the hiring of JR and co. (Thank goodness we're approaching normal now)! Instead of sitting here fighting with CDC about Green and the past I decided to get on board with JR (BB) and co running the team. Part of that was the repeated message that this team was no where near good enough, capped out, needed some major change, and a re-organization which would likely take as long as two years and probably more. I believe you were part of that group desperately calling for Green's head but you don't seem to be on board with the new stated direction either. So now when it comes to Miller I think one needs to look at two possible divergent paths. When JB was at the helm still I firmly believe he had not decided yet whether Miller would be re-signed one way or the other when he was first obtained. Either this year or next was when JB built this team to start being ultra competitive. After his play this year he definitely would have wanted to re-sign Miller in order to keep his desperate plan viable for one more year and save his job. However it would have been far better if he didn't play his way into a massive pitfall contract. Unfortunately JB wouldn't have had much choice unless he traded Miller for another player just as good so he probably would have signed him to the boat anchor contract he's going to get. Enter JR and co who don't have their jobs hanging over their heads and don't have to proceed with a broken plan partially destroyed by three years of Covid. It's a breath of fresh air and a chance to make decisions with no baggage clouding the issues. If I look at the last 3 years I see mostly horrible results, an immature team that lacks leadership, an absolute horror show on defence, players who manage to lose the game on our own PP, no depth and an inconsistent team that doesn't show up at times with the season on the line. Certainly nothing that says this is a great team besides a very good run after we were out. I'll give you that. In my mind I question why on earth someone would purposely choose to double down on that when we've been given the beautiful opportunity with a clean slate to address the problems with no pressure (besides CDC) to continue on a terminal path. I have no problem with JT at all and I think he's a great accompanying piece to a Cup run. I think our success relies on how good Petterson, Hughes, and Demko are, as well as Bo, Pods, Boeser, Garland, and/or additions depending on our direction there. Miller could score 150 points and we'd still be mediocre for two years imo. Unfortunately I don't believe these guys will be at their best for a couple years. By then Miller will be a lesser overpaid player and make it so we can't afford to add a Miller type when we're actually ready for one. Long winded I know haha. I just wanted to get all my points in there. I even forgot to mention it might be a moot point anyway depending on JT's wishes. If we do retain him we will have zero margin for error with any move we make for the next 8 years. It just seems very unrealistic and fantastically hopeful which I is why I favor a more sensible route actually building the team in the correct fashion and accepting the patience it takes to do so. I liked JB but he made some pretty massive mistakes this year and he completely bungled the way we built our defence.
  4. I am letting them make the decision and I have every right to respond to a question on an internet forum. In which I felt I was very civil and fair but go ahead and cuss me out if you must. You are correct I don't have faith in this current direction. How on earth did you come to that conclusion after I went through 5 lengthy paragraphs where I directly said that? It's like talking to a wet paper bag A guy can spend an hour trying to add to the forum and consider everyone's feelings and be very kind in response and you'll still have some butthole calling you down for it. You just can't win here with some folks.
  5. I'm not wishing him gone in that I don't like Miller but I don't think it's the right decision to re-sign him. And I have no idea what you're trying to say in the second sentence. I'm not one glossing over the risks. In fact I realize it will be tough ... and most likely fail just like our other 44 years. I just feel it has a better chance than continuing on this course. 6. Well yeah, in all reality some team will probably open up the bank as opposed to sitting there and doing nothing.
  7. Hi my name is Brock. Never been down on this side of the ice before. Oh hello. Good to meet ya. Name's Thatcher. I'm usually here all game.
  8. I can't see how they wouldn't bring him back. They made an option for another year for a reason presumably and he's been as good or better than anyone could have hoped for. Unless some other coach jumps to the forefront. Paul Maurice is a good coach but is he a main long term target. If so I guess you might have to pull the trigger if he becomes available now.
  9. Wait ... I thought you were on the signing Miller side?
  10. Yup I totally get that and despite my position I wouldn't be shocked either if somehow he ended up at 7x7.25 or something way lower than speculated. I mean look how wary some of us are. It is a horrible time to be going after a long contract but usually teams will sacrifice for the cream of the crop and skimp on the rest.
  11. I hear what you're saying and it makes sense. It just seems some fans take this stuff way to literally. It's not like this quote is binding by law or anything and he can't change his mind or fit Miller into his line of strategic thinking. Especially if he comes to the conclusion it's a good move for the club. Club and GM direction change all the time, it's a very fluid landscape and market place. The stuff you're quoting also wasn't in direct response to going after Miller either, it's just a general statement. Does this mean he's never allowed to trade for "now" because of that statement, or when was the statement made and how long does he have to wait until his soundbite is no longer stopping him from upgrading the team? I guess if you're coming from the keep Miller camp and are looking for reasons to kibosh a trade than yes it doesn't look like there are a lot of options available. And you can make cases like this one. However it does also seems absolutely reasonable that a playoff team such as Nashville may decide after the playoffs that Miller is exactly what they need. It may not be likely but if you're in the Vancouver camp and trying to get a deal done then you explore all your options and see what's on the table. You only need one team to make a trade.
  12. To be honest I find it it pretty funny when people try to state what was offered and such. These are professional business men running million/billion dollar enterprises. Surely the public isn't privy to every move, strategy, and offer put on the table. I'am confused as to why people think that. In reality we know nothing, not even one official offer. The offer could have been Kravstov and a second, or it could have been Schnieder, Laf, Chytil, and a first. We can speculate all we want but we simply don't know and there is no reason we should or expect to have that information. It should be noted it appears Allvin is extremely tight lipped. I think anyone that thinks they know every single offer and exactly what was going on at the table are only fooling themselves. I wouldn't be at all. All it takes is one GM to decide he wants an impact player who is top 10 in the league in scoring. Happens all the time. These players are rare if you are at a position where you want to make a serious move. I do agree though that teams will be wary for the same reasons we are so I totally get and even somewhat agree with you but it only takes one or two such offers from 31 possible teams.
  13. GM's say stuff all the time but live in contradictory worlds. We've seen it with Benning enough. Just because a GM makes a statement doesn't mean it dictates every decision moving forward and he can't make a future beneficial move for the club because of it. Every team looks unlikely until they decide it's in their prerogative. I do get that most teams won't change their mindset or make a major change up but it only takes one or two.
  14. Hey guys. Assuming we pick 12-14 what are the options do you think for the Canucks? Edit: I'm liking Luneau or Geekie. Gauthier and Ohgren are intriguing at the least sought after LW position. I also like Mateychuk ... 60 points in 60 games LD 5'11 186 and only 26. Plus he reminds me of a guy I used to know Richard Matvichuk.
  15. Any team that wants to make a major move can certainly make moves to facilitate the cap space. We just saw Vegas do it this year when they were one of the least likely teams able to afford Eichel. Any team would have 4 months or more to find the cap space. I would say every team is a possible destination besides the Canadian teams and maybe a couple of bottom dwellers like AZ and Seattle. Realistically any playoff team and maybe a Detroit, Columbus, Dallas, or even Buffalo.
  16. Oh yeah I agree, don't shoot the messenger lol. In one sentence he says Miller won't leave money on the table and then suggests he leave 18mil in the next. These Canucks Army guys leave a lot to be desired but it does illustrate some of the problems with any Miller contract. 6 x 9.5 or 10 maybe gets it a little closer but I don't know how this makes sense to us unless people are just excited to watch Miller make big money while we flounder around in circles. Yes way more info needed on all fronts. I really think we all need to wait until the playoffs are over to see what's left. Everyone feels like they know their team and the direction and plan is pretty obvious but every year that drastically changes for a lot of teams. We still have the draft, UFA, the hockey playoffs, trades, injuries, prospects, breakthroughs, year end interviews, and player/team decisions. It's going to be a long summer.
  17. Thinking about what the landscape will be like in the summer got me thinking that every player decision about their future is unique. For instance maybe he's a Red Wings fan and sees them as a possible destination. Or maybe he wants to play for Mario Lemieux in Pitt where he grew up. However we usually get somewhat of a read from UFA players through interviews and such. We have no insight at all from him about his plans in this case though. Is it because our media is such absolute garbage? I think that's quite possible. I wouldn't want to disclose anything to those morons either.
  18. Yes it also shows even blind people like Canucks Army can see that we can't afford to sign him without inducing massive bleeding. I think you need to check your batteries on your crystal ball though. It's giving you old inaccurate owner meddling updates from 2016. They haven't made a decision on this yet Alf. We may still get a better offer. One thing we know about hockey is anything can and does happen. It's impossible to predict the landscape when we haven't even hit this years playoffs yet.
  19. https://canucksarmy.com/2022/04/01/five-year-high-salary-bonus-extension-is-the-canucks-keeping-jt-miller/
  20. There is no way I'm writing Laf off in any way shape or form. Still massive potential to be a top player in the league. He's playing a role on a successful team. Maybe he's more concerned with winning and playing the right way now then padding his point totals. I don't think it's possible but I'd be over the moon if we somehow got him for Miller. I'm not sure what your expectations are 21 points in 56 and 25 in 66 are not to bad for 20 a yr old. Similar numbers to Barkov and better than Miller at the same age. He's producing and no where to go but up.
  21. Yeah I haven't really mentioned it because it doesn't favor us but I agree. If I was NY I would just keep the young talent, especially Lafrenier, and Kakko. I do think a lot of other teams could potentially be in the mix though. If you want an impact player there's probably no one as good as Miller available. You're probably right though that a potential Miller trade will probably appear underwhelming. Especially if word leaks he wants out. I can just imagine CDC then.
  22. And here we are pushing to sign another big one which could have huge dead cap for many many years. More of the same and I don't think it will work now either. We have a fanbase that thinks with their hearts and not their heads. Yes it sure would be nice to target an impact player when the team needs a change, replacement, or growth instead of hoping some $3m journeyman catches fire. When you think about it we've been a cap team (broke) since 2010 haven't we? Good morning aGENT and stawns. Any players you're looking at in the 12-14 range this year?
  23. You were the one calling people traitors not me ... but I digress. It seems like everyone in this thread is talking about it. It seems pretty reasonable to me but since you own the website I'll go do something else. Perhaps you can direct me to the the link where you can't talk the next day about how the game affects the team moving forward.
