[Rumour] Canucks trying to trade Halak
Gawdzukes replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Anyone looking at someone for just a couple years may have interest in Myers. As well as anyone looking for size or as we've seen he has some playoff snarl. Pearson also has his trade restriction dropping to 7 teams making him way more easy to trade if management wants to go that route. He's having a pretty decent year. Should be close to 50 points. -
One also needs really good endurance to constantly close gaps and chase pucks from one side to another. Same for defenceman boxing out players for two minutes straight. It's not like you can just change it up when you get tired.

I like that you acknowledge the low sample size here. It's definitely a factor. I would think in Motte's case he may be letting players in to high danger areas but does it in a way that limits the chance of scoring, but it gets counted as high danger anyways. That's my main concern with analytics is that the info gathered doesn't always match with resulting assertions. Thanks for the article. I think it would be far more useful if someone [with a more defined set of parameters] judged each opportunity with a 1 - 10 rating and made conclusions based off of that. Good thread man!

Nice analysis. I'm not a big analytics guy but can you tell me how they gather high scoring chances, I mean what is considered a HDCA? My skepticism is upheld in that Motte looks like an awesome PK guy when watching him. Also Miller is similarly poor. Is there a stat that measures if a player's ineptitude lead to a goal? Myers would be miles and necks ahead in that category. For me I like GA/60. Bottom line it says what happened. If you look at that stat our forwards are mostly decent but both D with the most time played give up a lot of goals. If I'm JR that right side D we (hopefully) acquire needs to be a top notch PKer. Also note how good Hughes is, 4.62 GA/60 crushing everyone with medium minutes played. Just need to dump Myers and upgrade with a more mobile and smart defender.

Multiple Canucks players happy to see Hamonic go: report

If it was religious reasons than I like him even less than I did before. This guy is a putz, especially if he's a religious zealot harping on other people and their rights. So, so glad he's gone. I'm not even upset we did so little. Getting rid of TH was a great move. -
Yup there are many reasons but there are a lot of players that don't want to play in Canada. Besides not being in America, closer to family and larger more develped cities the media really drives people away. Miller may be intrigued by being the man here but it seems far more likely he'd balk for the states as most players would in this situation. It's possible he's absolutely fallen in love with the city but chances of that are low imo.

I'm starting to realize just how much a good defence defines the team. At the same time how hard it is to define exactly what constitutes a good dman, or how to find these players, where they come from, and how to obtain them. You need young blood in there is one thing that stands out to me. There are only six of these guys. You can't have father time out there, or a group collectively slow as molasses if you want to push the pace. Otherwise you're getting the pace dictated to you and you will ultimately lose. -

I just hope the people that were bashing him endlessly in cruel fashion, some well respected long time posters included, feel some remorse for that non-sensical hate. -

Yeah I'm trying. And yes, they probably deserve a shot if they finish that strong. My gut says it's the wrong move but really what do I know. It seems like if anything they are over-performing, not the other way around. That's I'd be wary of anticipating an even better start. I think what you're referring to would make them one of the best teams all time. Personally I haven't put much stock in these Covid years or either of TB's wins. After the crap start, the constant bickering among the fanbase, the Covid disruption, and the management change I'm still not able to get overly excited about our year (like you are) ... although I'm enjoying the games immensely. My biggest fear is this year is such an aberration that it's not really a true indicator of the team and we come back to reality missing the opportunity to strike while the iron is hot. Most people don't but I still hold the players somewhat accountable for their role in the start of the year. I know that's crazy. I'm done arguing my points for now though and I'll sit back and watch and cheer us on no matter what we do. My biggest hope is Covid is behind us and next year will be a real season. -

Ha ha yup. You know what I'd take it. lol. A win is a win. We don't get many in this league we don't earn ourselves. We're no Toronto or NY that's for sure. -

Ha ha possibly. At this point I've given up almost trying to determine the correct course of action and I'll watch it unfold but concluding this is a 100 point team seems a little reckless and hugely debatable imho. But like I said I think I've gone crazy from trying to figure out what we should be doing so I'll leave it the fine folks such as yourself. I'm willing to play it out that way if that's the direction we choose but my same concerns remain if we are status quo next year. -

Yup we probably end up 1 point back knowing our luck. Pick 15 or 16 should still give us a nice prospect to add to the system. -

Thought he was a goof long before he came to Vancouver. Extremely happy he is gone. Moving on. -
I don't know Brock makes some very poor plays defensively. He's absolutely useless in his own end. He doesn't make as many horrible passes in his own end but he dicks around with puck and doesn't understand getting the puck out past the blueline. D- for Miller and a D for Brock defensively. They're both brutal. One of the biggest problems in my opinion. The team lacks the overall leadership to play responsibly in all 3 zones and these two are on full display there.
