And Sam Gagner had 8 points in one game. Do you know how rare that is? Do you how many times teams win when a player gets 8 points? 100% is the answer. Therefore we should sign Gagner to an 8x$9 contract. The reason we don't do it because Miller is not Crosby, Ovechkin, Getzlaf, Giroux, D. Sedin, H. Sedin, Bergeron, Kane, or any of the other hall of famers you mentioned. If you can't see how silly that is sorry. Your sample sucks! Your logic sucks! Chris Kontos says Hi! And I know what TBD means. I was was pointing out just how poor your analysis was. Out of 23 players 10 are Hall of Famers, 10 are TBD, that's 87% of your data being worthless. Let's just say it's not the strongest analysis I've ever seen. -

Umm what, did I go back in time, am I in a different dimension? Are you asking me to explain the Ryan Kesler signing? This is a hilarious post man! Kudos! edit: The more I think about it the funnier it gets. Kesler demanded a trade to one of seven American cities and ultimately demanded a trade to two American cities and then went to an American city. And the article proves what a dick he was. You are not good at making arguments. -

Lol, this guy would pencil in Snoopy on 3rd line LW, and Woodstock on RD to make a case. He seems to think there are several spots on hockey teams that don't really matter. Just pencil in cheap guy there and Miller will play 49 minutes a game and backup goalie to pick up the slack. -

It's not logical to compare JT Miller to a group made up in half of hall of fame players. Why not just compare him to all players, at least in the subset? So hand picked and massaged to produce the desired results it literally tells us nothing of value. 23 players 10 hall of famers, 10 TBD lol Sorry. This has the statistical value of a ball of twine. Maybe he keeps it up to a high degree, it's possible but it's a huge risk as shown by people that use actual statistical analysis. It still doesn't change all the possible pitfalls that come with an extension. -

I've been mentioning this off and on for awhile now when everyone gets so off-track about whether he will or won't age well. It's not even the crux of the matter. When you get down to thinking about it and understand his likelihood of re-signing in Canada is very low it makes perfect sense to trade him for one of the biggest hauls in Canuck history. It's nothing personal against JT it's just common sense really. -

Yeah this is it exactly. I love Petterson and think he's great but that horse$&!# giving up breakaways on the PP for goals has to stop. He's done it multiple times now. That was a massive game he blew for us against Detroit. He will mature but it's not happening overnight. At the end of the day you're right. Miller is a supreme complimentary player on a cup contending team. We're not there yet and do they catch up by the time Miller declines? It's hard to be sure but it's so tight the percentages don't play out well for us. At the end of the day I just don't think it's possible to remain status quo and win the SC. Teams have to be creative and patient with long term planning to get a leg up. -

Are you sure? I can direct you to a very scientific study where the "researcher" handpicked 23 random players 29/30 years of age containing at least 10 hall of fame players and showed half of them were still pretty decent at 35/36. Ha ha I laugh every time I see that thread. Needed a good laugh this morning. I also was one of the few people that loved the trade initially and I also think he has provided us tremendous value for that. At the end of this contract I don't think JB was ever planning on anything but a wait and see approach when it came to re-signing Miller. I don't think there is any way in the world he would be re-signing Miller in this situation. If he were to have continued at his pace and a 4 or 5 year deal at $7m or so was on the table I think it definitely would have been considered but .... not anymore. As you indicated no one outsmarts father time ... except Seriously though I get how much people are in love with Miller with the crazy claims they are making. I almost want to see him signed to a juicy retirement deal just so everyone can see all hoops and logistical obstacles we have to jump through just to ice a team. I will ultimately be blown away if JR and co go that route after their stated directives. Sufficed to say my expectations would be almost zero moving forward. -

I wouldn't. We've been doing that for 30 years with no success. I want to emulate teams who create an over abundance of talent in this very same way. Selling high, accumulate wealth and invest that capital when the time is right. This fanbase needs to exercise some patience for once. -

Ah no haven't you heard he's been been appointed God in some circles. Being critical doesn't mean he's not a great player but man some people literally think he can do no wrong and that he's a hockey messiah or something. It's clear to anyone who has watched he's acted like a petulant child at times. -

Yeah anyone that doesn't see this is blind with Miller love. The worst for me was when he would start making horrible no look passes and giving up on plays in our own end just because we were down a goal or two. Brutal stuff. At least he's cleaned that up a bit now. -
(Rumour) Giroux to FLA for Tippett, Samoskevich and draft pick

How long have you been watching hockey? Adding a player no matter how good never guarantees anything. Not even close. Florida is hella good though. Best I've seen all year. -

Miller may be a great leader but this team is still lacking overall leadership/maturity losing this way. Who keeps letting our pp give away goals and games. It's sickening we'll never accomplish anything making these mistakes. -

The dumb in this thread is at a very high level. From replacing Myers to whatever planet that @RakuRaku guy is from. I really have to question if his species even plays hockey. Certainly no match for Petey's alien homies if they do. -

Nah he's 5'11, 190 and only 21. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=210202 Did you miss my Manson add on line 2? And Bone is not a good fit behind Hughes and OEL. Too one dimensional. That's the spot we need a big hard hitter in. -

I'm in ... in a heartbeat. I think this guy has tremendous upside. A great first move at building up the right side of D. We are so missing a slicker player who can play with elite forwards there. Add a Schnieder type prospect and support with bigger stay at home D's and that's a defence that can excel Hughes Schnieder OEL Manson K.Miller Lundqvist Oops I just stole all of the Rags D youth. -
[Signing] Sharks re-sign Tomas Hertl
Gawdzukes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yes this is a key point. Most top notch players get signed to bad retirement contracts. It's the way the NHL is structured. If you master your way through the NHL and stay healthy you will probably get overpaid on your last contract partly as payment for what you've done in the past. Similarly you most likely get underpaid on your RFA deal. It just depends if you're a good enough team that you can justify that over-spending and long term pain for short term gain. Obviously some disagreement on the board over the bolded. I would say 2(3) -10 years. That would include Petey, Hughes, Demko, Bo, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Boeser, Motte, and the return of any assets from a trade. So I would say anywhere from 7-10 core plus an outside chance of Highmore or more likely Lammikko being a keeper. It's a good thing Petey, Hughes, Demko, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Boeser, all have about 10 years left until they are 32. Ideally we add a couple core pieces in the next 3/4 years. True, I can see lots of ways Miller screws this up for us but I don't see us being punished in any way for waiting for Petey, Hughes, and company to develop into even better players. -

Okay well yeah I warned you about that HF boards but fair enough I think I hear where you're coming from. I personally don't think those yahoos nor the media really know anything about what's actually being offered. I mean why would management email their fans or divulge their intentions in person ... that would kind of hurt their bargaining position? Every year the media is easily 90+% wrong on their pre-deadline day knowledge, and the fans don't make the trades either. I really hope it doesn't come down to Miller publicly wanting out after too much dilly dallying and we need to resort to said scraps. I think with high certainty players similar to the ones you mentioned will be on the table. He's worth it.
