[Signing] Sharks re-sign Tomas Hertl
Gawdzukes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
@Coconuts This is one thing that's jumping out at me these days. The amount of people that are willing to carry a bad $9 million contract for 4-6 years. Before it's even signed. -

Well this is the only thing you said that makes sense here. No offence intended. You don't know what they're offering at all or what they'll give up, or what their motivations for doing so might be. You keep stating people are willing to take scraps, no one is though. You're citing the very worst cdc talking point offer from over a month ago, and it always included a fourth roster player or similar. But you're right it's JR (Allvin's) call and if he deems it acceptable so will I. Right now with Miller's play I can't see them accepting that offer you recalled though. Currently I don't think anyone else can either. Who knows what will happen in the summer or later though. By the time we get down to trading him his value might regress closer to that package you listed. The longer we wait the more risk we take. Having said that I will admit it's pretty hard to actually not say F#$k it and just re-sign him. He's playing out of this world right now. And then I remember we don't really have a say anyway. -

That seems to be the general consensus every time and it hasn't worked yet. It's the main reason I'm open to a more thoughtful, directed, and measured approach. Especially with new management. They should be given a chance to shape the team with their vision in mind. If JT Miller didn't already play on our team I don't think I'd be currently dreaming of signing him UFA, even in the wildest of scenarios. Too many times we opt for the path of least resistance. -

Do either of you remember what you were talking about? -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Yeah very possible. He's on a slippery slope. If he does stay he's young enough to progress and at least be a solid contributor, or like you say traded for someone who hopefully will. I know what you're saying about too much flash and dash though. -

Yeah Imagine Petey, Hughes, Pods, Hogz, and Demko at their very height of their careers with a formidable d-core. That's the time to sacrifice the future, add high priced vets and just go for it. -

It doesn't bother me in the slightest about Demko. That's five years away. Plenty of time to re-sign or replace. I don't really understand that concern at all. Should be the last thing on anyone's mind priority wise imo. I think if we go your route of trading lesser players no one wants we will run out of money and assets. It will cripple the rest of our roster even more than now while we fight for a playoff spot for 3 years before maybe missing 5 straight, all while watching the Kings, Ducks, and even the Sharks charge past us with their quality youth. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

I would tend to agree with them. I don't see us as contenders either, the same as management has indicated. That makes a difference moving forward too. The run has been a nice surprise but I'm not ready to throw out the rest of their history or the glaring deficiencies either. I don't think we should blow it up and start over though. Same as management I think we have some superb building blocks and we should be re-tooling around them. We're not that far off. No point in blowing it up we already have a 23 yr old stud center, 22 yr old franchise dman, a 26 yr old elite goalie, and a couple of high end 20 yr old forwards. No sorry that would be silly to blow up. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

None really. Hopefully the team and history help with that when the time comes. He will be just like JT at that point with a whole set of factors to consider. -
Sounds like we're getting some respect. I have to chuckle at the people upset by another team's broadcast. Why would we really care about another team's set-up? It caters to their fans. To me all it says it we got their announcer to lose his cool a bit in a close game. It means it was a big game to them and they were worried about the result.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Because he's still young enough to be in his prime at the end of this contract when we'll be more likely contending and well into next contract as well. He just became a starter in the league. We'd also need a new goalie. -
[Signing] Stars re-sign Joe Pavelski

I wish, would love to see that too. NHLPA is dead set against though if I recall correctly. Something similar to the NFL where you can dump a contract for a horribly under performing player. -
Legendary! Get on it JB!

I'm not in the same league (planetary system) with regards to knowing this stuff like mll but If you pay Miller 8mil in one year no year can be less than half, or 4mil. So you can't just do a Luongo and pay him 1m in his final year or two so he's easier to trade or just retires. It basically means if Miller gets a large total dollar contract his salary will be fairly high throughout. @mll I'm sure will explain this correctly .... but I tried. Front Loaded Contracts: the salary variance in any adjacent years cannot exceed 35% of the salary in the first contract year regardless of whether the salary is increasing or decreasing & the lowest salary year cannot be less than 50% of the highest salary year. -
Haha, I agree 100% on this one. A really poor fit moving forward but a blooming prospect. Definitely a great trade chip. Really enjoy reading your well thought out posts.
