  1. ummm. hmmmm, eeeee, really? lol just joking
  2. To be honest I think his contract may be more reasonable than many think. Even around 8x8 or better. I'm still not sure chasing the dream yet once again is a better option than cheating a bit/getting a leg up and expanding our talent base exponentially, organizing talent for a singular timeline, restructuring our defence, and creating invaluable cap space. Re-signing him feels like another hope for the best situation with a fast approaching deadline. We'll see what happens. Either way I can't expect management to follow every single route I would take so I'm going to sit back and cheer for the Canucks regardless of which direction they take. Hopefully it's the right one. I trust they will have a well thought out and detailed plan when they proceed. On the other hand this thread just shows how impatient Canucks fans are and the sacrifices most are willing to make for the win now approach. JR and co seeing a Canadian market up close may just throw up their hands and say hey who cares they don't, give them Miller, most of these fans will be happier having Miller and losing then having their favorite toy taken away.
  3. If you want Miller bad enough anything is possible. I would also suggest whispering him name 3 times out loud as you look into a mirror exactly at midnight. Miller Miller Miller
  4. I do. Your side is pretty simple lol. Miller is a very good hockey player with great intangibles. I've probably read 100 pages of this thread. Not much more to say. I think the chances of this going negative is greater than the positive outcomes and I said as much. I think it's fair to say you understand our side as well. I think everyone here has a pretty clear understanding of both sides actually. Or why not enlighten me if there is something else? To be honest out of my group of posters I'm probably one of the more open to signing him. I get how hard good players are to find and how many different things he does well. I even believe its possible, not likely, but possible he maintains a decent level of play for 5 or 6 years. My biggest concern is he simply isn't going to re-sign here no matter what we offer. On top of that it provides us a rare opportunity to make a major move to build for the future. Something we haven't done in 25 years. We need to be progressive as an organization instead of constantly chasing a fleeting opportunity. To me the math is stacked % wise in the trade Miller column. Maybe the keep Miller crowd are big gamblers? I don't know. You?
  5. It seems like every second post here people forget Miller may 100% not re-sign here for any price. They speak as if it it's up to us and it's just a matter of what we're willing to pay him. It's simply impossible for us to see how loyalty affects his decision. As in what is his level of commitment to Vancouver? Clearly he is very professional and speaks of wanting to win with this team right now, and how much he likes the players, but he doesn't express a deep attachment like say Wheeler (in my opinion) did before he signed his last contract. At least that's how I remember it. To be fair he got a great contract but he was a diehard Jet and he expressed as much all the time. Maybe the team and even this playoff run has galvanized the team and made JT want to stay here but it's just as likely he's a die-hard patriotic American and wants his kids to grow up there in a major US city. I don't think anyone here dislikes JT but most people in the trade corner are taking into account all of the facets involved. Those who want to sign him are pretty optimistic that a bunch of factors will all fall into place. His desire to be here long term, cost of contract, length of contract, age, and loss of trade chip are all problematic factors and have a chance to completely screw this organization over for a long time.
  6. Yeah they call anything dangerous at all and policing/jumping a player like a back alley fight has been eradicated. Even if more penalties are being called they still lets dozens go on either side. The notion that they're going out to give penalties to one team only is really short sighted and 10 yr old whine like. Referee's absolutely manage the games based on their interpretation. Get on the wrong side of a ref and yeah it's going to look like you're targetted. Of course we're middle of the league as well but that's lost on these twits. Some people need self delusion. Lol 52 years is a lot of time to put into something and not figure it out. If anything things have gotten more fair. Back in the day if you were down by a goal you could get away with murder in the last 5 minutes. Now they'll call you in a flash and put you shorthanded to win the game. This happens all around the league.
  7. Lol, the definition of a butthurt fan. It's amazing how many poor sports are here on cdc constantly complaining about how the refs are out against the Canucks.
  8. Fair enough. That's a reasonable take. We'll see what happens. I just hope our RD gets a complete revamp along the way.
  9. Tried to be polite. It was a mistake. Thanks for putting zero effort into reading what I wrote.
  10. Exactly. Very well said. It's easy enough to pencil players into a line-up and say stuff like sign top 4 RD but the reality is that is a lot harder to do in real life. The margins are so tight. Will a top 4 RD be available, will they want to sign. Either way our RD will get obliterated by a good team much like Stetcher against Vegas. We're going absolutely nowhere until that's fixed. Miller is the obvious way to do that.
  11. I think this is the biggest conundrum currently. Are we really good enough to be a consistent top 8 NHL team? We look pretty good but gosh the sample is really messed up as this season has been a wild ride. Is this sustainable is anyone's guess but it's hard to support either claim with certainty really. I don't personally think we're quite that good as we have some major flaws but if we are how many trade supporters would be on board with re-signing JT then? Unfortunately to really answer this we'd have to see how next year played out with JT on the ice. I'm sure they're leaning heavy on the analytics department to provide some answers here.
  12. This is actually what I'm against. Perpetual mediocrity. Since the Naslund years we've been hanging on to playoff hopes at all costs, trading picks and assets for the present, letting assets go to UFA, or if possible re-signing our players to retirement contracts for past glory and basically winding it down, ala the Sedin's (brutal results). So really from 2001-2018/present or earlier we've been perpetually sacrificing the future for the present. Even after the Sedin's were gone we still did that keeping Markstrom, Tanev, and Stetcher, and adding Toffoli for a playoff run while getting nothing back and once again re-building with no assets in the bank. We basically did a mini rebuild last year with about 10 new starters on the team as well. This is actually what the trade supporters are trying to prevent. Another situation exactly like the past where we sign a player to a long contract past his prime only to have it handcuff us so bad we not only have to rebuild but we have to go through 3-4 vomit filled years just to get there. The people that want a trade don't want to perpetually rebuild we just want to rebuild/retool right for once. Re-upping Miller to a new contract on top of our already improper rebuild could leave us running out of runway once again in the near future. Having new management is an opportunity to do that right for once in decades. After 40+ years I've come to the conclusion that simply sucking a bit, getting some high picks, developing them, and adding some high priced UFA's might have worked in the past, but not any longer. In the past I would have been all over re-signing Miller and going for it because I believe in the present, and I believe in standing behind my players, and that's exciting and right to do, even when we lose. However I also want to win it all someday too and that's why I think it may be in our best interest to trade him for a bevy of assets so we can have our young core, our prospects, our picks, additional picks, and added young players all aligned to peak at the same time. As it stands with our cap if we re-sign JT we'll be walking a cap tight rope for more than half a decade. Either way I'm glad it's not up to me because I'm going against the grain here a bit. I'm certainly not going to be upset if we keep JT and we win a cup but this type of thinking seems to be the route we always take and it seldom works out. I would like to be like one of those American teams for once that have an embarrassment of riches and a blinding future instead of fighting for a playoff spot every year.
  13. Sounds like they're against the concept of the zoo and captivity more than a specific problem with this zoo. I don't know too much about this but I don't condone suffering for anyone, especially not for simple profit. I haven't been to the zoo since I was a kid.
  14. That's a disgustingly ugly line-up. The wingers are seriously suspect. There are 3 questionable wingers in the top 6. Two prospects and an aging tweener. Than you have Motte, a fourth liner playing on the third, and a AHL player on the fourth. That defence is still stale with no jam, just older. Plus it's missing a player. Teams have 23 players on it. This is the exact reason tough decisions are required.
  15. That's a good deal, ending when he's 32 with actual money decreasing. Fair all around.
