  1. He was a battler but as you pointed out he is too small yet people here are surprised he didn't make it. As expected. He still has time mind you but might find it on another team or even in Europe.
  2. Remember Covid played a big part in screwing up all AHL development. Besides the fact that Dipietro is undersized and was pretty over-rated by Canuck fans it wouldn't be surprising to see us move on. If a player hasn't forced their way in by the time their ELC is up there is not much you can do.
  3. Gawd this team can be hard to watch at times. Why does Petterson always give the other team breakaways?
  4. Yeah I was going to point that out as well. Lol, it's just a jersey who cares unless it's super ugly imo. I guess we can only have a V or a picture of a Canadian then. That seems kind of dumb. I think the logo is fine.
  5. Yeah I must admit now that we have new management I'm pretty on board and excited about making some trades and actually structuring this team in a way that it has the right parts to win. It's probably made myself and others want a trade for trades sake to some extent. I agree his value probably remains fairly high even next year. Although there is a (big Canuck) chance he gets hurt, a chance he has a terrible year, and a big chance his teammates pick up the slack, resulting in lesser numbers. In my opinion his value will never be as high and I don't see him having a career next year like this one. The current version of the team is hard to watch. I tune in because I love the team but I'm not expecting wins or good hockey. It's almost comical watching how poorly they execute. I for one don't have any desire to watch a repeat next year so I'd like to start what needs to be done now instead of kicking the responsibility down the road another year. If the team is rebuilding I don't really see much value in keeping Miller for one more season, or gambling on his desire to stay or what a contract would look like.
  6. The big difference in LA is Byfield is on an ELC which is up in two years, the same time as a 36yr old Kopitar. Also Danult is the second line center ... they can afford it. I haven't scoured the numbers but it just seems unfeasible off the top of my head to be running with 3 huge contracts through the center. Especially when it doesn't look like we have any scoring wingers ... except Boeser ... but we need money to sign him or someone else otherwise we're hoping Hogs/Pods or Garland can net 30/40 on the top line.
  7. I can't see us having 3 $7m dollar centers(Bo at $6.5??). I'd think Bo or Miller have to go. That's too expensive for a third liner, no? Not to mention Petey is also up the year after Miller re-ups. Hopefully he deserves a pay raise based on his play. Ultimately I think we're going to need to go after a scoring winger in free agency. Who knows, you're right though we need RD and scoring winger and we're pinched for $$.
  8. I will absolutely rejoice. I don't think I've ever disliked a player more in my life. It would literally be a toss up with Messier. I'd rather have Avery or Marchand on my team any day of the week. Not some spineless quitter like that waste of skin. Sorry I can't help myself. I absolutely detest that schmuck! As far as the actual topic I can see this guy getting 2-3 year deal with someone. I wonder if we'll have room though, we have so many tweeners already. Edit: I guess he only gets a one year elc deal. Well we could be an attractive space to play then for him. Time will tell.
  9. I could agree with this idea. Good point which I haven't seen brought up yet. By this time in the year though it seems like I can get a good read on whether a player really wants to stay because they love the city, whether it depends on the hockey results from the season, whether they are looking for a big contract, or whether they are putting off their decision to the summer. With Miller he hasn't given me any hope whatsoever with anything he's said in the media. Not a single thing. I currently put him at less than 25% at re-signing. If I was a GM that would be the first order of business. Unfortunately for us we're not privy to those types of talks with JT. However unless he comes straight out to management and indicates he has a burning desire to stay they better be out shopping him hard. There are just so many red flags here he's the most obvious and impactful play we have. The beauty of this situation is it's not like anyone dislikes JT as a player. I mean he's great out there. Worst case scenario we keep a really good player for another year. Would they then make other moves to go for it? Who knows what the team would be like next year. I would hate to see it but I can just imagine us keeping him and then him walking with us getting nothing or very little in a trade chip. Hockey teams need to make strong, bold moves in order to accentuate the product on the ice. If JB was running the team still this wouldn't even be a conversation really but here we are with a new huge management team. They like all new GM's have the opportunity to put their stamp on the team moving forward. It'll be so very interesting to see what direction they choose. Especially with us hanging on in this playoff race with a month left. Do you think after getting to Vancouver and seeing how insane our fanbase is they're possibly terrified of making any moves for fear of the outrage and stupid media they'll face? Any who, sorry to talk your ear off JM. Have yourself a good day sir!
  10. No that's Arizona, but all teams have to be extremely wary of the salary cap. It's one of the most important aspects when it comes to constructing an NHL team. We're currently right up against it.
  11. One thing I will add to the Miller debate is where we saw this heading when he was first obtained. Initially some people hated the trade and then most grew to love it. However did Benning think immediately he would be re-signed at all cost. No I don't think so. He was more of a 4 year investment to lead and shelter the core. More likely he had a wait and see approach. Towards last year most people likely saw how valuable he was and started to think about re-signing him to a modest raise and long term extension. Well that was before most of our players went in the tank this year and Miller excelled at the top of expectations, making his future deal even more expensive and lengthy. Now imagine we were firmly in the playoffs and turning heads, even making a decent playoff run we would be in a situation where we were almost forced to re-sign him to such an extravagant deal. Combine his future contract with the hockey we're playing and maybe we're lucky to have had a crap year where we can still walk away with a bright future. I for one think Miller's next contract was a big question mark the day we traded for him.
  12. Well said. I think we're not quite making trades yet because we're waiting on the trade deadline. It seems likely we could pull off a bigger trade first before some of these smaller trades, i.e., tough guys trades are made. Once we see a move or two we should get a sense of the direction we're going in.
  13. Oh yeah me too I really like some of the players. We have some skill and some hard workers. I like Bo a lot as a person and he is a good hockey player but since he was such a young captain I think it's really allowed or deteriorated to a "do what you want, or what you think is best attitude. Players need to: 1. Make sure you don't get scored on in the last 2 minutes of a period. The goal should be to think about the team, not about padding individual stats. 2. Shoot the puck on the PP like the coach tells you to. Keep it simple. 3. Don't continually make blind passes in your own end. 4. Don't pout when things aren't going your way, keep your head up. 5. Hustle on defence, not only offence. 6. Don't keep forcing the puck in your own end 7. Play as a team 7. Keep your shifts short Myers, Hughes, Miller, Boeser, etc. 8. Be ready to do your job when the puck drops It looks like pee-wee decision making out there a lot of times. It's really hard to watch. I agree JB was aware of this all along but unfortunately we lost a lot of that leadership when Beagle, Roussel, and even Louie were traded but not replaced. Not having Sutter who plays the game the right way hurt big time without those players as well. Petey, Miller, and Boeser have great offensive instincts but they don't seem to listen very well to their coaches. All in all a Miller trade, maybe Boeser as well, will bring back some assets and younger players that will benefit us in a couple years when our young guys like Bo, Petterson, Hughes, Podkolzin, and Pods find some maturity and can make the right decisions to be a winner. With the right moves I could see a completely different looking team as soon as next year.
