  1. I think we should trade Miller but I'll answer the question. I think you're on the high side so I'll say a Canucks friendly deal is 6x$8, or 8x$7.5. I don't know if he'll push for a max contract or not but I have the feeling he really wants to win. That's a fair contract for a good player but it still leaves us top heavy at forward so one of Bo, Boeser, or Petey will have to go. It also leaves us with 3 centers making over $7 so either Bo, Miller, or Petey switches to the wing moving forward. On a team with more depth and at age 32/33 I think Miller's points will drop off quite dramatically. He's also less likely to produce if everything isn't going through him. It's win a cup in 4 years or suffer 10 years of rebuilding. Pretty easy decision in my eyes. It all hinges on Miller's view of the team and his desire to stay in Canada for his entire career. I just can't see it.
  2. So the team must win in the next 4 years with JB's team while JR and everyone else newly hired are just there to do daily paperwork? When we don't win and struggle to make the playoffs for the next 4 years we then have to lose our younger core players because they're too expensive (according to you) and suck/rebuild for the next 5 years until Miller's albatross contract is done. That doesn't seem very enjoyable or like a good plan at all.
  3. Basically our forwards hope to hell they win the face-off or get a fluky bounce or pass from the D right off the bat ... otherwise they spend the rest of the shift desperately trying to help the defence get out of our own zone. We've played good team d and that's a huge credit to our forward and team commitment. Also credit to guys like Burroughs, Schenn, and Poolman who have given it their all but our overall D personnel is utter garbage. For sure the worst bottom 3(5) in the league.
  4. It's one of these pay everyone dreams and just dress 5-7 AHL players to compensate plans.
  5. Wrong again. No one is calling the core bad but one of those players do need to be traded (due to cap+future structure) and Miller is his name-O !!! So very, very confused.
  6. You got it already and didn't get very sick so you want everything open right now since you personally are done with Covid. Got it. You're impatient and selfish.
  7. Nicely laid out thought process Khay. Of course you're right one should look at all possibilities when making a decision like this. I would add to best case #1 is that those young players help us win a Cup. I would also add that there is a very real possibility Miller is kept for this year and unloaded next year, giving JR and crew a little more time. This route concerns me not only because the value drops but but an off year or injury could leave us with nothing ... and that's Canuck luck. Worst Case #1: 5% chance he turns into Louie, 65% his play drops off big after year 2. Worst Case #2: EPIC FAIL by management Average Case: EPIC FAIL by management Best Case #1: We receive 3 key players that help define our franchise moving forward Best Case #2: Cup with Miller I agree with 1% chance strapped cap wise with a worse team than now I would usually not agree with giving away your best player but: 1. I don't see Miller re-signing 2. Good teams maximize their assets for the future. Other than Bo (which worked not bad) we haven't since 2006. Bertuzzi for Luongo. Key to us making the finals. 3. This team should have been rebuilt after 2012, still needs to happen unfortunately 4. It's the obvious thing to do with the salary cap maxed out and a brand new management team and coach in place.
  8. We are though, holy you're confused. That's why we're keeping those players and not Miller. I don't know man, that team you posted in the OP is pure rubbish. That's my main concern and why I want to take the logical approach. Edit: We'd better hope to win the Cup in the next 3 years with the exact same team we have now because after that it gets ugly. Hoglander-Petey-Boeser Podz-Miller-Motte Garland-Bo-Klimovich ELC/4F-Lamikko-Lockwood Hughes-Mayfield OEL-Myers Rathbone-Schenn Demko
  9. Yeah that's good that we're guaranteed to have great players right? I highly doubt Demko will get that either even if he remains fairly terrific. He'll be 30 at that point as well. Either way it's the exact reason not to sign Miller for big $$ when that's the exact point in time he'll start regressing and we'll need that money to pay those younger, better players.
  10. No, nope not at all if done correctly. JR and team have identified the cap as a problem area. If we take them for their word (I think they deserve that) they should be keenly aware of it in the future. In 4-5 years we'll have Demko still at $5m, Hughes at $7.85, and Petterson will be getting paid what he's worth(8-10). Horvat will be on a long term deal making around $6.5. That's only $28-$30m. By that time the cap should also be back to rising allowing us to ice a high quality team. Demko and Hughes will need to be resigned starting in 25-26 at which point we will have a healthy look at the core in their early prime ... and hopefully no wasted money on older players. We'll see at that point who out of Petey, Bo, Hogz, (maybe Boes) and Pods possibly all stay. Myers will also be gone. It's the whole point of the thread. Ditch Miller to lose cap and get better players for cheaper for when these stars are in their prime. On the other hand we could pretend we're good enough now and blow our load early.
  11. Also how on earth do you sell that to the fanbase? Some people are already losing it over the Miller rumors.
  12. Dumb ... dumb dumb dumb ... dumb (read melodically) Would be pretty stupid to get rid of all your players to tank and end up 5th or simply lose the lottery. Also, Demko says What? No way Jose!
  13. I'm often watching other teams thinking oh man I'm so jealous how the heck did they and other teams land that young player and become so good now. Then I'm reminded of several years back when they traded a top player at the deadline for an over abundant return in order to retool for the future . For once I'd like to be that team getting ahead of the game instead of clinging on to mediocrity for dear life until we've run out of options and have to completely rebuild again. If we re-sign Miller there is a good chance we suck/middle for the next 7-9 years before bottoming out and starting again. The future RD you list ... hmmm the only good thing I see is they all have double vowels following their first letter of their last name. Woo Poolman Juulsen The dreaded Wu Poo You combo Uggggggggggg
  14. Couldn't have said it better myself. We've been ignoring the RD for over a decade. It's beyond bothersome. It's time to address it one way or other even if the cost is high.
  15. Yup, watch these selfish cowards instantly change their stance once they're sick in the hospital.
  16. No people who are actively getting in the way of the rest of Canada being safe need to be shuttered from our society. Unfortunately people can behave like selfish idiots. As long as they stay home until this is over I have no problem with them. They're just simply the bottom of the barrel when it comes to Canada's citizens. Someone has to be the worst. It is obvious now that a certain portion of society can't be counted on. Even in the most perilous of circumstances. It's the scum blocking streets in Ottawa and people out spreading misinformation and breaking protocol that need to be dealt with. It is also time Antivaxxers either forfeit their Covid Healthcare or pay out of pocket so we can all go back to closer to normal. Go back and read the actual conversation before spouting off. Not even remotely what I said. Same old garbage from you.
  17. Don't you guys understand this takes time to make a safe decision? I too feel restrictions could be lifted but I'm waiting until we've done our due diligence scientifically, not a flipping public opinion poll. Not to mention the virus has receded the last two springs. It's probably prudent to wait until then anyway. This just screams impatience. A democratic government for a country this big doesn't do many things quickly, and this is one decision that shouldn't be hurried.
  18. No, the Canadian way is not accepting everyone. Serial killers, rapists, pedophiles, these types are not anywhere near acceptable, and neither is this garbage and the people behind it. We're not a safe haven for criminals and maggots. It's time the rest of us stand up to these disgusting human beings.
  19. The idiocy of these people knows no bounds.
  20. Exactly how I interpreted JR;s comments when hired and why we should we be trading players, with Miller, being the first. Two years is optimal but realistically it could take 5 before we're there.
  21. But waaaaaaaaaa, he wants them done now. Talk about children in adult bodies.
  22. Too many reasons. This is the NHL not the Bad News Bears. Really tough decisions have to be made. Have you watched the games? They don't seem good enough at all. We've gotten points in 4 OT games. We've played well sometimes, and we've played very, very poorly at times too. Our PP is disgustingly bad, our PK is one of the worst in the league. Half of those were one goal games. +9 is a decent indicator for a team but 20 games is too short and not enough to erase the last 3 years performance. It doesn't change the salary cap or the fact we have to move players. Someone is getting traded and one player makes way more sense then the others. It doesn't change the fact we can get way more for the player now if we have the stones to move him. It's simple math really. and it has nothing to do with chances.
