[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Gawdzukes replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Petterson has averaged 18:30 in his four years playing on the top line with massive PP time. Laf has 13:30 and played on the third line for the most part. Completely different situations. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Yeah I'm sure we've also seen these deadlines where some obscure team jumps in and trades for the most sought after prospect after reports of someone else being the frontrunner. Any team securing a top guy ... say Giroux could lead to the Panthers, Bruins, Avs, Minny, Canes, even the Flames, Preds, or some other borderline team trumping them with a Miller move. Once that desperation is there it's a lot easier to sell to the fans if you're giving up a lot for the present. -

Exactly, that's a massive haul. People writing Laf off don't really understand what they're saying. Adding Motte is definitely a nice piece for the Rangers playoffs though. Completely solidifies their forward group. One thing I've noticed about Schneider is he's a good skater who really likes to get up into the play (with Canada), often cruising through the slot area, and creating havoc in the offensive zone. He seems to make good reads. I think he's got untapped offensive potential if playing with the right players. He's also got good lateral passing and a good first pass. He's not a great puck carrier but Hughes is not too bad at that. -

In my mind if you get this offer you take it and run as fast as you can. 1st round pick - check. Highly touted RD with size and offensive capability. Exactly what we need. Lafrenier is a first overall pick from two years ago. You would have to be dense to think he's a bust. This kid is 6'2, 200lbs and just put up back to back 2ppg seasons in the Q. He was on pace for 18 goals as a 19 year old and just behind that this year. To me he looked like a hell of a player when I watched him in the OHL and World Jrs. I would bet on this guy turning into a real good player if given the opportunity. Nothing like ahhhh forgot his name ... Yakapov. Sign me up. I kind of doubt NY gives us that but it's a no brainer if they do. -

I think you guys are jumping the gun a bit. It's only 3 games, and he's only won one NHL game at 26 years of age. He'll be back in the AHL soon so we'll see what the rest of his year looks like first. Although he played pretty well and stopped a lot of shots his technique is pretty shaky. Lots of rebounds, goalmouth scrambles and laying on there ground with no stick. I'm not so sure he's getting a bump in salary or a 2 year one way contract. Yeah I notice this all the time too. I find Garrett is way worse as well. Him I blame it on being a goalie. He seems to have no perspective from the shooter's angle, or he's too busy blabbing about something else to really care. I don't think Shorthouse played hockey. It doesn't really matter to me as I still like them. I do find it funny though how they miss such obvious stuff. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Some people speak as if we can keep everyone or close to it. However they seem to forget that JR is the new President and already proclaimed changes will be made. I'm sure he's not going to stand by and just oversee the team that JB constructed adding a few tweaks here and there. They didn't just rebuild the whole front office to stand pat. Now there are several options (Boes, Bo, Miller, Petey) but Miller makes the most sense for a lot of reasons. He will command top dollar in 2 years, possibly up to $2.5 million more than the other players. It obviously makes the $$ tighter with Miller. What really sways the issue is if we're serious about re-tooling we're getting way better assets back for Miller. Most importantly this isn't even a question if he's not re-signing here. You would have to be a pretty silly GM not to take a huge (over) payment for a guy that's not going to be here in two years. Trading Petterson is fairly unlikely as his value is skewed right now and Boeser gives you no where close to the same return. The only other realistic possibility is trading Bo but you're adding $2mil to the payroll, you're adding 2 years to the overall age at the end of the contract, and you're severely reducing the return for the team. All of these things negatively affect flexibility moving forward and the ability to retool. Either Miller or Bo should be moved at this deadline in order to maximize a return for the future. Keeping Miller seems a lot more risky with less chance of working out. As some have pointed out he could end up a $9.5m paperweight by the time JR's team is ready to compete. -

That's just to get an even better return. Mighty attractive for a top team. We could sacrifice that fairly easily for one year if we're re-tooling anyway. -
I don't think you're on the same page as management here at all. Since they took over both BB and JR have talked about making the team better in the long run. I don't think they are overly invested in the current year as when they were brought in the year was all but lost. Obviously Bruce will still give it his all but when JR was brought in he said we need to get a lot better, and younger, and has hinted time and time again changes will be made. We have played great and have made it interesting but that won't mean JR is suddenly going to 'go for it', this year. That would be horribly short-sighted. His focus remains the same unless we go 11-1 or something by the end of Feb. Even then he just re-iterated some serious decisions need to be made. I'd be absolutely shocked if he traded Miller for 'this year's run'. He might as just well keep Miller if we're going for it. The reason this is coming up now instead of next year is that Miller has absolutely put this team on his back skyrocketing his value at this point in time. That's 2 top notch value contract Cup runs to a top team. If Miller is not planning on re-signing the return could be half as much next year, or less if he has an off year or gets injured. Oh yeah, Alf says crazy stuff sometimes after his cat-nip.

I had to watch the Jets feed last night and their play by play guy told an involved story about Boudreau, while he was calling the play. It took a fair while and covered 3 zones but he did both while calling the play perfectly. Even the color guy commented on how well he did. Ha, it reminded me of some comments here about story telling during the play and people getting frustrated by it. Anyways if you didn't hear it they used to run a Thursday 'Slapshot' show during the covid break so these guys dug up everything they could on it by the end. Apparently when they were shooting the movie they were looking for somewhere to shoot Newman's home scenes. They came into the dressing room and asked which player had the messiest place and everyone said Boudreau so that's where they filmed those scenes in Slapshot. -

Yeah I kind of misread what you typed and rephrased. Good catch! -

A natural hattrick is 3 in a row scored consecutively, with no other player (from either team) scoring in-between. You're right Copp scored right after JT. -
[Report] Canucks name Patrik Allvin as GM
Gawdzukes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
No, unfortunately if we keep Miller it pretty much means we're going for it with all the same guys we got with maybe a Boeser trade. Likely not going to cut it unless we see huge growth from Podkolzin and Hoglander. -

Possibly, would make sense with them off to the windy city. I'm going off what a poster said a while back in that he'd be available. Not the same reasoning as a goalie though either. He can take a fourth line role if they want to limit his minutes and play him with Podkolzin and Chiasson, while keeping Motte High Lammy together. I can't see the Captain not getting into the line-up instead of Bailey. Another line could be Podz Bo Dickinson if they want to play Petterson, Hogz, and Garland together. Man I like this forward group. And we got Pearson yet too. Dammit, I'm getting excited again. -

I don't think he would have flown there if that was the case. With the extra quarantine I assume he's perfectly healthy and has been working out similar to Garland. -

Is it possible Alf is Spencer Martin? -
12th right now in points percentage so good guesstimation. However Miller and/or Boeser get traded 7-12 becomes a probability.

[Rumour] Canucks trying to trade Halak

Is it really worth it living in Edmonton vs Van for the next 3 months for (maybe) one playoff series? On the other hand going to an actual contender may be cool in his books. I can't see why not, he's a competitor. Buy him out. Gets funnier every time I read it. -

Mathew Highmore has quietly been learning from Boudreau and Motte
Gawdzukes replied to *Buzzsaw*'s topic in Canucks Talk
I really don't know how much this has to do with Boudreau. I always loved the Gaudette trade. Motte and Highmore have been hurt most of the year which is why they just started doing well. -
