  1. Too many my friend ... but fake doctors are so in these days.
  2. Yes I agree. I think we are lucky in that JR is finally the voice that can stand up to the impatience of Canuck/Canadian hockey fans and do the right thing long term. I don't think (hope fingers crossed) he will stand pat for playoff revenue unless we're like 8 points up at the deadline which would mean our team is performing at the top of the league anyway. I don't think we've ever really sold from a position of power before. That is enticing.
  3. Would be real exciting to see Dipietro in net ... although I'm a little worried for him if so. Not his fault but he's not at the top of his game right now.
  4. This is what I find interesting as well. Will JR stay his own (??) course and trade core players if we're still in the hunt? We simply don't know but it would be ballsy and pragmatic at the same time.
  5. Well said guys. Yes it really comes down to what JR's vision of the team is. He definitely was not brought in to make the playoffs this year as@FaninMex suggests, he said as much in is hire interview. Even Bruce said the playoffs were a longshot and his main goal was to get the team playing good hockey every night and build for the future. Don't get me wrong I'm definitely thrilled with how well we're doing and would love playoffs but that doesn't mean forget everything else. JR also said this team was not where it needs to be and indicated changes would be made. It didn't sound like minor tweaks at all and he indicated the desire to get younger which suggests some surgery. One thing we know is that we can't keep Bo, Boes, and Miller so a good GM (JR) will be figuring out now and not later which one or two goes. JR has been running a top team in Pitt so his approach will be different. We'll see what it is as in a single move or wide sweeping changes. In 3 years time I would sure rather have 2 quality roster pieces and a first round draft pick vs nothing if Miller signs in the States as a UFA.
  6. Well that's quite the bold statement. No offence but you seem to have the blinders on without doing the due diligence of pursuing all the options. I think that's what most of us are talking about here. Keep in mind no one is wanting to trade him tomorrow, the deadline is 2 months away.
  7. Lol, I caught the last minute. The atmosphere was like it was game 7 of SCF. Haaaaaaaaaa
  8. Yep definitely could go your way. I hadn't really considered that route. I'm not driving this bus screaming for a Miller trade or anything, he's a fantastic player. I'm just looking at the landscape and the direction of the team. Like I was saying for me it rides on Miller's desire to sign here again because unfortunately I don't think we're anywhere near strong enough to go for a cup next year and that would be a poor decision. We also don't have an unlimited supply of money and what is JR's vision. I'm likely not going to be mad either way but it does seem obvious to explore what the return may be. Have you heard anything regarding his desire to re-sign or talk extension?
  9. That's a good short term solution if we can re-sign Miller. We don't get near as much though and Miller might not re-sign. That's the risk I guess so we'll see where we're headed. Garland is a good player but pretty small so I agree he's worth something but how much? I'm kind of going off what Rutherford said in that we're not there yet and he wants to make trades to get younger. Which brings us back to Miller. Garland is 25. It's a hard call but I've lived through keeping everyone before. It doesn't work that great. I guess Rutherford would be gambling/or knowing he'll re-sign and we're building around him. Also just picking up a 2nd pairing D (hopefully better) is very hard to do. I don't know that Garland gets you an A prospect like Miller does. In fact I doubt it very much. We need to get better than a Hamonic signing which is why you explore that trade in the first place.
  10. Yeah the more we converse the better idea it seems. We as Canuck fans are so used to holding on to every player until the bitter end and getting nothing in return. Here in Canada we kind of get away from remembering it's a business. It's hard to tank with the fan fanatics here and get a normal return for aging stars unless you genuinely suck like Toronto (forever), Edmonton (since 1990) and Ottawa (honest). We didn't get anything for the Sedin's which is self explanatory but for once we are set up to the receive the rewards and we don't get many opportunities. It would make sense to strike while the iron is hot.
  11. Well yeah but that's the point though. If you're going to trade him anyway why wouldn't you maximize the return? He gets a King's ransom this year compared to next. That's the difference between an A and B prospect or player and a pick. I think he's probably looking at $7.5 to $8.5 over 5-7 years. I believe he'd sign team friendly with a contender but you're looking at $8 x 6 here in Van ... if he has any intention of re-signing. I have some serious doubts about that though.
  12. Exactly, this is the team we thought we had at the start of the year. With a better start we'd be marginally higher in the standings likely in a wildcard fighting for second and third. However, JT should have been on the radar to be traded even at the start of the year if the circumstances were right. Now that we've had the year we've had there is even more reason to look at it. We basically have the number #1 asset going into the trade deadline. Bidding war anyone. It doesn't get much better than Miller. It would feel nice to get one of those huge returns we see every trade deadline every year but are never part of. I agree with the sentiment but imo there isn't another way. Maybe Bo or Hughes (the real no way) but no asset will fetch what Miller can. It's not just about shoring up the d but the future as well. It would suck to miss the playoffs two years in a row and watch Miller sign with the Rangers in a year and a half anyways. Don't get me wrong I love Miller and wouldn't be hurt to see him stay here either but you have to give to get. I've pretty much understood not trading our top assets the last 10 years (we never had much besides the Sedin's) but if there ever was a time in our cycle it's now.
  13. Yeah you can't keep everyone in hockey and you need to make real tough decisions to get to the elite level. When was the last time we made a significant roster move of a big asset to position ourselves better for the future? Kesler ... doesn't really count as it was forced. Bertuzzi for Luongo 2006 or Bure for Jovo in 1999? Being that our core is young and we aren't pushing for/expecting a big run when is a better time to take advantage of a sure high return? Now that I look back at it we traded Schnieder for Bo in 2013. How is that looking now lol. I have to agree this feels like the exact right time to invest in the future. Even though it would hurt emotionally to lose Miller it could really set us up nicely in the future. That could be a franchise defining trade. Boeser I'm fine with trading too but I don't see the return being as high. Imagine having a younger bonafide RD and two or three first rounders in this years draft. Now that's a retool on the fly. Like I've said in the past there is also a distinct possibility Miller has no intention of signing here in 2 years.
  14. That's awesome. about time someone did this. I mean it's only people's lives we're talking about. Seems like a very decent guy who cares about people. Always appreciated his candor.
  15. It sounds like the constant bickering and immediately disagreeing with the other party is getting in the way of just working together with everyone for the best solution.
  16. I'm not too bent out of shape by the missed game. Have a feeling we might have lost it anyway. Don't know if it would have made a difference in those first 3 games but ce la vie. I've been keenly watching the league and the bottom dwellers especially the last 4-5 years. There are always a couple that come flying out of the gates the following year with a couple top picks playing, etc. I remember the Sabres coming out on fire last year too. On Nov 1 they were 9-3-2, Anaheim was 9-6-0, both good for second, but once the season progressed and they were caught they completely fell apart and received top 5 picks. Looking a lot like the California teams this year. We're in a similar position to last year with a lot more time, games, and rest. BRING IT ON! As far as trading players it's quite the pickle. We're looking great and we want to see this out but what is Rutherford's take? I'm assuming we're going to be in a similar place in 2 months fighting for a spot but probably a little better off. Does JR let JB's team go for it or does he look to the future. It will probably hurt but the logical choice would be to remove the emotion and build for the future. We don't have a lot of cap space or blue-chip prospects coming up so we desperately need to create something there. For the first time in my life I don't want to play, "Well if I was the GM". Definitely agree though seems like we have something special going on. Like Bruce said if he ever gets his top 12 healthy we'll likely see HogZ Petey PodZ on a line. How exciting would that be full time? Were they ever awesome against Nash. Finally CDC would be right in our post draft line-up predictions for once.
  17. Yep, he played one hell of a game. A true leader out there.
  18. I'm looking at the standings and to me it looks like we're more in a divisional fight than a wildcard. We're basically only chasing one wildcard spot as Minnesota are 9 points up with 4 games in hand. That's a pretty tall order and most likely Nashville will fall to wc#1. They are 13 points ahead of us but we have two in hand ... so slightly more doable but still a stretch. The wc#2 position has Winnipeg, 4 points up and we have one game in hand, and Dallas, 2 points ahead with two games in hand. Definitely within reach. That leaves Ana, LAK, SJ, Cal, Van, Edm fighting for 2 divisional spots and the wc#2. We've basically caught up to Anaheim on pace as they're 7 points up but we have 3 games in hand, LAK, have 5 more points but we have a game in hand. SJ is 4 points up but we have a game in hand. Those 3 are fading fast. Calgary should be the toughest to catch they are 2 points up with 5 games in hand. Then there is the coil 2 points behind but 4 games in hand. It basically leaves 8 teams fighting for three spots. However they are all within striking distance. I really like our odds if we keep playing the same way. On a side note looking forward to a time when we're not playing a top 5 team in the league. Nice we get #7 Blues tomorrow. Big games next week, Oilers, Jets, Flames.
  19. Yep, total gimmick and a farce ... because games often have 6 uncontested breakaways in a row. Yeah right. Uggg, that's child's play and doesn't represent the hard fought game of hockey at all. I'd rather they do the old shoot it through a little hole from center ice. I think @MaxVerstappen33 might be a younger fan, they like pizzazz. No offence Max. They could go 3 points for a win, 2 points OT\shootout win, 1 point OT loss which would actually give incentive not to go to overtime but really they should just go back to ties after 10 minute OT. That's the best and fairest. The 3 on 3 is exciting but that's not hockey it's pretty dumb how they skate the puck out of the zone all the time. That 3 minute shift by Lammikko and co was pretty lame. There's a reason the game is played 5v5, not 3v3, or 7v7.
