(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller
Gawdzukes replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
In addition he'd be coming out of a Carolina system where he is coached the right way. His points would undoubtedly go up in our run and gun score and who cares if you get scored on system. Of course hopefully that's addressed sooner than later. 6'2, 200lbs and 22 years old, former 3rd overall pick. Good chance he's outproducing Miller in 4 years imo. Definitely someone I'd take a chance on, especially if we're getting a first, and Morrow, along with it. -
I would be in.

lol, no why not sign someone else in two or three years, or 5 when we have cap space and a player like that puts us over the top? Not try to force a win with a declining, overpaid, retirement contract, signed 3 years in advance. While I hope we could turn it around in a couple years if things fall the right way, it could also take 5 years. -

lol I knew you would take offence to that. Playoff priority if that is more palatable for you. Or did you not say that either? -

Why don't we just replace him with someone better when we're more competitively built, not locked into a 7 year contract, plus get some assets on top of that? -

Yeah, we'll see, the comment was based on @Kenny Powers stating a playoffs or bust attitude though. Just pointing out that should be the least of our short-term concerns. We're currently in the midst of one of the worst defensive performances in 40 years of NHL hockey. We've got massive holes all through the line-up, few prospects, and not much cap space. -

We're going to jump from 5th last into the playoffs with no major additions ... I seriously doubt it? -

No he's not but you also need context gm. There's a huge difference between trying to deke out the last dman in the slot vs. trying a blind through the legs drop pass in your own end or trying to beat 3 guys at once at the blueline when you're the last man. That's what I have issue with, and I would have it with any player that does it. No matter how you slice it turnovers are not a positive and every player needs to be accountable. -

Yes I agree things are starting to look better on the ice and Miller in particular has shown some much improved play in some key areas. That's a big positive. I've been beating the trade Miller drum for awhile, and I get too negative regarding him sometimes. It's just because I firmly believed it was the right/only move. However I will concede he is still a good player and at this point it looks like we're moving forward with him so I hope management is able to piece together a successful team with the parts we have. -

I don't mind intensity it's the crappy decisions with the puck that's the big thing for me. If he's gassed that's another huge red flag for me. Good teammates need to know when to make a line-change. He's only thinking about himself when he's coasting around out there because he's tired but doesn't change. That's putting yourself ahead of the team. Most good hockey players and teams will tell you the importance of short shifts. -

Mainly just the crap way he pays attention to the defensive side of the game and continually cheats on his checks and makes high risk plays. Not a good example imo. Not to mention the hotheaded displays of anger, some even directed towards his teammates. -

The way I see it Petey and Quinn are excellent hockey players. However the lack of prospects, PK'ers, Centers, and most importantly D, mainly RD, means we have a lot of work to do. Miracles do happen but more realistically it probably takes at the very least 2 seasons or more to right the ship, maybe more. By then Miller is 333/34 and possibly slipping to anchor status. That's the crux of it. I guess some people are desperately hoping we somehow are suddenly good next year. I don't see it which is why a step back and planning for 2-3 years out seems reasonable. In addition it would be helpful/beneficial if he was teaching the youth or providing a good example during the process ... but he's the exact opposite. I get what you're saying though. Hopefully it works out and Miller is contributing to our success in the near future. -

Fair enough. I guess that's the basis of the argument. I think that what you suggest will amount to basically keeping the same team, which we've seen currently sucks. It will be hard to upgrade in a meaningful way but we'll see what happens. Waiting to see how they replace Myers and use that $6mil will be a major factor in how we move forward in either case. -

Ah, sorry didn't mean to be the grammar police. I figured ideal kind of = elite. My bad. Totally agree with his potential though. While I like both Aman and Joshua they lack a bit in the toughness and aggression departments. They also don't PK much either if I recall correctly. Our whole bottom 6 needs work. I agree we could definitely use that Rooster and Lappy level of fight. -

Oh yeah he's been good. Not expecting anymore at all. They were real good at the start of the year, our best line, and then they had a pretty bad spell where he got sent down for awhile. Now he's back and playing at a respectable level. I just don't know if ideal is how I would describe him. Imo he's still got work to do to stay in the league let alone be an elite 4th line center. But I digress. He's definitely someone I like having on the team. I guess I was observing the conversations you had with @stawns regarding what I think started with the idea of trading Miller in order to address team needs and develop a succession plan for integrating elc youth on the team moving forward. It seemed you thought it was unnecessary and that we are just a couple simple moves away from fixing everything. My apologies if I misunderstood your stance. -

lol. I was reading along on the thread and I'm thinking geez you were the one that just brought it up like 6 posts earlier. Then the Boeser and LE reference out of nowhere that's not related to the topic at all. lol when you get the out to lunch meme you know even he's now confused about what he was trying to say. -

Ideal 4th line center? Ha, he's been pretty decent considering the climate ... but ideal? I'm not so sure about that. I wouldn't go that far. You have a very positive view of where this team is at. I think they're in a lot more trouble than you realize. Like @stawns mentioned we need some major upgrades with almost nothing in terms of assets to get there. -
Yeah, the only thing that scares me is our own draft board. Hopefully they don't do anything weird. There should be some consensus choices where we end up drafting. There will be players slipping. It will all depend on their final ranking. Someone may be there they consider to good to pass up. Like Lekkerimaki lol.

Exactly, these guys aren't dumb. He's not going to get fooled by more of the same middle of the pack best outcome is a wildcard chase stuff. He is going to want to see a clear and genuine plan that will lead to extended playoff runs. I don't think he's enamored by Miller like some posters here. In fact he seems annoyed by him if anything. -

Haha. Yeah I get that feeling a good number of times when reading his posts/rants. I think a good portion of what he's trying to say doesn't make it into the post so you just get some wild ramblings with a thin thread of commonality in it. It's kind of ironic in that he's trying to make you look silly at the same time. -

I don't think anyone is who isn't an emotionally invested Canuck fan looks at this team and thinks it's a good bet they'll be competitive in the next 2-3 years. Can it happen, could Miller play at a high level in 4-5 years? Sure, anything is possible but these outcomes are unlikely and it's a massively risky gamble that has a low probability of working out. -

Yup, use that cap space to pounce on a RD where another team can't afford it. Add assets if we have to to get a quality piece. One solid RD goes a long way to building this team/turning it around. -
