  1. I find it amusing and a little head shaking when people try to site failed draft picks as a reason they are not important or "just a lottery ticket", or "magic beans", is my favorite. Unlike real life where you can actually get a job you can't just sign up for good hockey players, you need to draft them ... as hard as it is to do and the many tries it takes. Yeah I completely agree. The BPA thing gets a little overblown. I think tiers are more accurate. Like you said it's a crapshoot the further you go but one thing is certain. If you don't draft any RD then you won't have any RD as a result of drafting. Seems pretty straight forward but our last couple GM's didn't get the memo.
  2. Miller was a terrible signing. Complete and utter waste of cap space for a team that currently blows chunks. Plus he's the worst role model and leader for any young players to learn from. Hopefully our management grabs some brains and balls and trades this boat anchor before it's too late.
  3. Who are you thinking. Reinbacher? I like him but I think he's going top 10. Simashev? Seems like a player you might like. I have my doubts about Sandin-Pelikka but honestly wouldn't mind taking him if he's there. While defence is not his strong point he's getting to the size I think he could play adequately enough to make our D a very formidable 1-2 punch. Of course this makes the need for 2 stud defensive dmen top priority. Having said all that I have to agree there is a strong possibility you're looking at a real good fwd still sitting there at that pick.
  4. We have some work to do. Need to add some defensive acumen and size to that line-up. Totally agree 100% on the players I'd like to keep. Garland, Boeser, Miller, all the D except Hughes. Bye-Bye!
  5. Yeah that is very true. Good teams take pride in d and swarm the other team or smother them defensively. It's a great way to get juicy turnovers. We have a number of players up front that just glide around 2 feet behind their check and then go like hell once they get the puck. Talk about being a soft, easy, team to play against when you do that. Far too many of those guys in the top six who should be playing the majority of the minutes.
  6. We are way to weak and small throughout the lineup in our effort, with many of the forwards having zero interest in defending. Having said that they at least can score goals while our defence is simply not capable of competing with good teams in the NHL, not matter how much they try. Two or three defensive minded players are needed in both ranks.
  7. Beat those Gritty Flyers ... nah don't do that. Lots of tank action and bottom feeders heating up for upsets. Islanders now in 17th which is good. Need them to keep their false sense of belief in making the playoffs before they falter down to the 15th pick. There will be good players all through the top 20 but I feel after the top 15 is where the it gets sketchy.
  8. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/bruins/nhl-rumors-latest-asking-price-ivan-barbashev-trade-revealed https://thehockeywriters.com/blues-barbashev-potential-landing-spots-2023/https://thehockeywriters.com/blues-barbashev-potential-landing-spots-2023/ https://theathletic.com/4197838/2023/02/15/blues-ivan-barbashev-trade-options/ Apparently he's being shopped around. Blues looking at a rebuild/retool. I believe @mll also posted regarding this.
  9. Yup, a third is still a decent draft pick. It's a free RD, Center, or G. We need these more than hugs and kisses and sentimentality. If he really loves hockey and wants to play still we'll sign him back next year.
  10. Not me. CDC loves to over value their players. I remember last year Motte was supposed to get a first. He got a fourth. The reality is teams will probably not going to want to pony up that much for a guy who may or may not play and is purely depth. Maybe in a bidding war at the last minute or if a top team has a last second injury but I wouldn't be holding my breath.
  11. They dumped Tarasenko and O'Reilly, looks like Barbashev too plus whatever else they might do. Honestly I thought they were only about 5 or 6 ahead but they are nine. Should be enough but it could get close though. They still have some good players but they've been pretty horrible all year and are getting worse quickly.
