While I do agree there needs to be a change, I'm not a fan of the public shaming JR has done pretty much singling out Boudreau and obviously referring to the bad habits that came from his coaching. It got bad to the point that Bruce had to respond publicly saying he "tries his best with what he has". His fate (that's probably still bound to happen) was already decided months ago but JR decides to keep him employed so him and Allvin can play their own personal game of "fire him, fire him not". If you're going to fire him, ok. But at least do better with your PR and don't create this beef and controversy through the media that they will eat up. Bruce probably already knew his days were numbered when the President of the team pretty much confirmed he wasn't in favour of him. It's also not necessarily a good look for prospective coaches looking to join this organization in the future with this regime in charge.

Thank the Oilers for that. I think what the NHL should've done is kept the old system where the absolute trash teams of the league get the actual help they need and draft 1, 2 and 3. They could've made it so that the team who wins the lottery and picks 1st, is disqualified from picking 1st again the next year no matter their position and highest they could win is the number 2 spot.... or something like that idk. Bettman and Daly are both tools so i don't think this system will change regardless.

I feel like he should've been given this honour for certain and a lot earlier. I hope they really do it, if anyone deserves to be in the ROH it's Gino who was a literal warrior for this team. It also would be a beautiful final send off. RIP Gino.

I actually don't know whether to call him generational or franchise... kind of hard to see which level he will be at in the NHL. You're right, his height might play a bit of a factor and his defensive play isn't there but offensively putting up generational numbers. Pundits also seem a little hesitant to flat out label him as generational unlike what they did with McDavid. I want to compare him to Mackinnon but Mackinnon has that dynamic skating explosiveness which I don't think Bedard has. Maybe a Matthews since their shots both seem to be their strongest trait?

i agree. i think that even if this team continues to suck, we still have a generational talent to sort of ease that pain a little. say what you want about mcdavid but lots of edmonton fans were at least happy that they had him as some reassurance even though they were constantly missing the playoffs.

Just Because There Was No Management Thread
PetterssonOrPeterson replied to ToTellTheTruth's topic in Canucks Talk
Does this mean we'll be in mediocrity forever until and if ownership changes? Gillis was shut down right away by this moronic owner too when he suggested taking the rebuild route a decade ago. Seems like this guy Aquilini never learns. -

I partially agree that they were dealt a bad hand from the beginning, but this new management also contributed to the failures in the year they've been here. Obviously the OEL contract was something they couldn't do much about since it was signed the offseason before this new regime came in. However, if they were hired and realized what they need to do, you'd think they'd be a little more strategic. Surely as professionals, you'd think they had a sense of what they were going into and not blindly accepting the job being completely unaware. I refuse to believe they couldn't find any good deal on a 99 point Miller in his prime and an extra year of a cheap contract to acquire the assets we desperately need. If not that situation with that player, then who else could've potentially brought in the most trade assets in return that we realistically would be willing to trade? They willingly re-signed him and gave him his retirement contract knowing that we still had a p*ss poor defensive unit and not even any elite defensive prospects in the pipeline. Funny thing is, JR and PA talked about this issue every time in their press conferences when first arriving, saying it needs to be addressed. Not only that, but you should expect all potential situations when your captain's contract is also literally up the next year. If you weren't going to trade JT Miller the past offseason, ok. You could've still easily waited to examine at least the beginning/first half of the next season to see who you'd want to prioritize and bring back. Use Miller's remaining term to your advantage literally. But no. For such an "experienced" management group, very disappointing with how hasty and naive they've been with their decision making. -
Bo is my favourite player and come playoff time I feel like he's one of those players that can carry a team on his back. He showed in the bubble playoffs, did well in the playoffs against Calgary and showed his big game ability since junior. The problem is this team never makes the playoffs lmao. Bo was that guy, our heralded future captain when drafted, the start of our new generation of actual legit draft picks that would become elite players, the guy we got for prime Schneider.... It's a disgrace that he played for such a loser team with a moron for an owner in which if he started a proper rebuild when Gillis suggested it, then Linden years later, he might've been leading a contending team. So continues the story of this franchise.

Edit- Rick Tocchet Expected To Be Next Head Coach
PetterssonOrPeterson replied to BertaNuck's topic in Canucks Talk
we can all see this but the so called "professionals" who are being paid millions as hockey execs can't lol. But hey, at least we have female representation right? -

It baffles me how awful this management has been. you're gonna change coaches for the sake of changing coaches? if anything you should've put Boudreau out of his misery earlier, why is this so delayed if it was bound to happen? yeah. make the coaching change and when this problem happens again because of the awful defence and special teams you haven't addressed, just go around in that circle again. how much money are these morons in the front office making again? i feel like some fans could do better at this point -
This canucks job really just seems like a side mission for JR. He clocked out ever since he left Pittsburgh, had his rings, and was enjoying retirement at his home in Carolina but he was intrigued by the offer that Aquilini had to go over to his house to make. PA is his crony so he just follows him along. Say what you want about the rest of the assistants but I feel like the front office was more concerned appearing woke and making headlines for a day or two rather than if they were actually qualified for the position.

[Proposal] Boeser to Minnesota

If only we could spin back the clock and get the all star brock we had before. really sad how things have gone. -
[Proposal] Kuzmenko to Washington
PetterssonOrPeterson replied to 86Viking's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I agree with this 100%. Everything I'm hearing is about how Miller's trade value is low and all that other jibber jabber especially from the local sports radio. Not just this in particular but any other canucks related topic in which they might be performing poorly, it's like they're drooling over the opportunity to create some sort of story to spin to the public. It's pretty sad -
in a transition league where top players play two years at most and its entirely based on future young players, i think this is quite a dumb trade. even if it is a memorial cup thing, they're mortgaging their entire future for the next few years just for this tournament. i suppose they could trade players later on to reacquire those assets but lol.

[Proposal] Kuzmenko to Washington
PetterssonOrPeterson replied to 86Viking's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
This would be ideal. What do you suppose we could get for miller realistically at this point? I'd say his value drastically went down since the summer. Would you consider getting rid of him even if it means receiving somewhat of a disappointing return, as long as Bo re-signs and Kuz comes back? -
Even with not being able to trade him that time, they didn't even need to re-sign him the past offseason. Management could've used the remaining term on his contract to at least examine the 1st half of this season to give themselves an indication of what they need to do if things went a way they didn't expect (including Bo's career year). But noooooooooooo. Our "wise" and "organized" management group decided to impulsively do something they could've waited a little longer for.
