Ex-GM Dave Nonis weighs in on the Canucks
PetterssonOrPeterson replied to Junkyard Dog's topic in Canucks Talk
the owner making all these excuses about how this fanbase can't handle a rebuild. no. it's YOU that can't handle a rebuild. infuriates me that he uses this fanbase as a scapegoat with his sorry excuses. -

its so obviously aquilini that's stagnated this team into mediocrity. he has no vision whatsoever. literally the canucks are just his bank account. doesn't care. just wants all the money he can try to make -

I'm glad he was honoured earlier this season. RIP to him and condolences to the family. -
are you the same guy that talks about how certain players shouldn't play for this team because they're "un-respectable"? lmao. you do know this team once employed and glorified the likes of Kesler (slept with teammates wife), Torres (the headhunter), Lapierre (because he's such a classy guy), and Burrows (the guy who thinks domestic abuse is acceptable to chirp another player for)? This guy's even in the Ring of Honour for the Canucks. why do you think vancouver was once the most hated team in the league? i'm dying of laughter with your hypocrisy.

uhh.. they made the playoffs last year and made the conference finals just to refresh your memory? i'm aware of their contract situation but i don't really know how you're comparing their situation to ours. even going into the season, lots of hockey analysts were expecting edmonton to contend. not vancouver. not saying it's a sure bet but they're still certainly in a better position than we are. they're in that race for a playoff spot at the moment while we're nearly double digits behind.

Do we really need to blow this all up?

No matter the result, obviously the issue going into the season that everyone already knew about was that weak defensive core. However, we've now sort of discovered a new and probably more daunting issue than the actual defensive talent level. That's the mentality. It's a matter of consistent cohesion as a group mentally. You can have all the talent in the world but if you have a pretty weak/lazy mentality and decide not to show up on nights, and even between periods, then it just shows that there is a very big culture issue in the dressing room. We've seen multiple instances when we're down in games going into the 2nd and 3rd and there is just no urgency, lazy penalties and pathetic play. Really the same vice-versa with our leads, we just fizzle out defensively and aren't as sharp as we should be (dare I say, we just don't care at times). In that case, the talent level of the personnel on defence could also be questioned, but you shouldn't be giving up multiple goal leads a literally historical amount of times. I still think this roster needs a refresh unless they can somehow mature drastically in their mental capacities not to crumble under pressure. You just can't have that attitude come playoff time when there WILL be much more adversity throughout multiple playoff series/rounds. This is child's play compared to the mental hurdles you get into if you even make the playoffs.
