  1. We'll just have to trust Benning and the management team to make the right decisions. Still lots of unanswered questions....
  2. Good for the team option-wise. The Canucks would likely be able to offer him a cheaper contract in FA, and if worse comes to worst they would have to let him go.
  3. I just stream the NBC feed. Much better than Sportsnet and all analysts I prefer to the Sportsnet ones.
  4. Great pick by Nashville. Gotta replace Rinne and no one better than a potential franchise goalie like Askarov.
  5. Maybe Dorion ships the 28th, a 2nd rounder and a prospect for the 11-13th pick? If Askarov isn't taken. Sanderson, Stutzle and Askarov sounds great for Ottawa Edit: Nvm lol
  6. A little bittersweet, but what can you do. Shows indications of what management wants to focus on (Defence/Goaltending) and I'm completely fine with that.
  7. This is why making the playoffs MATTERS. It leaves a good impression on other players
  8. Pretty awful deal for both sides now if you think about it lol. At least Gudbranson turned into Pearson which makes it a little better
  9. “Time traveler from the future”. Lol. If you didn’t know, usually being in a scenario that gets a team stuck paying 8.25 million to a 35-36 year old player is not an ideal situation to be in. You seriously can’t think of any? Ok. Makes sense. You don’t know that a GM is potentially capable of making other deals. Yeah. Why not trade Stepan? He can be a useful veteran presence on a playoff team looking for a rental. Same with Goligoski. We’ve seen players like Perry and Pavelski and their impact on the Stars. Also, Stepan and Goligoski only have a year left on each of their deals so it wouldn’t hurt the other teams that much. That gives Arizona around 13 million in cap space. You’d think that from OEL’s standpoint, if he can’t even be paid his money properly, let alone win, he’d be the first one willing to be traded to any team and leave this “bleeding” franchise. He’s literally declined to play anywhere except Boston, Vancouver or Arizona. Meaning he would still choose to stay in Arizona other than 29 other teams. But hey. “They’re forked, massively bleeding with cash”. Ok. Keep pressing that panic button chicken little.
  10. The contract becomes a “problem” in the player’s latter years as I already mentioned. Just so you know, they can make moves that aren’t secluded to just trading OEL. There are other players on the team and pieces that a GM can move. There are some more “facts” for you.
  11. Trading OEL is an option. There should be other options that Arizona has that is not solely dependant on getting rid of OEL. Yes, I agree. It would definitely help their situation for him to leave (they are only 1.1 million under the 81.5 million cap) and he asked been asked to waive, but it seems like Arizona is willing to at least wait it out a bit until OEL expands his list to more than 2 teams. Him being asked to waive is for Arizona to keep that option open. Considering he is their best player, captain and franchise defenceman, I can see him staying if Bill Armstrong can find another solution and/or they are being completely low-balled on the offers on him. I can also see him being traded. He wasn't the one that asked to leave Arizona, so I assume he is still content there. Vancouver is also looking at all options too. We are tight against the cap and need to think about who to keep and who to let go.
  12. Yes exactly. Then he becomes Vancouver's problem. No. They do not "need" to trade him. It is what they would prefer, but they don't absolutely "need" to do it this offseason. They also don't "need" to trade him to Vancouver. Those are the "facts".
  13. Arizona doesn't want cap. That's the whole point they're trying to ship out OEL. They've already said that everyone 25 and over is available for trade, so it likely indicates that they are looking for younger assets such as prospects and picks for their players in return. I highly doubt they would want a cap dump like Rousell, Beagle, Sutter...etc. even if they are packaged with a prospect and pick. Remember, Arizona doesn't need to trade him here. If Boston brings up a better offer, he could easily be traded there. They also don't need to trade him at all and can make other moves around him. I didn't know Pietrangelo wanted a 7-8 year term. If that's the case then hard pass to him too. Fair enough, if the player (OEL) expresses interest a limited amount of teams (Vancouver/Boston) it certainly can handcuff Arizona and put the Canucks at a bit of leverage. However, it seems a lot like Arizona is waiting it out for him to expand his list. Regardless, that OEL contract will handcuff this team in the coming years. It will all be worth it if the Canucks can win the cup, but when it gets to that 5th-7th year of that OEL contract, that's already looking like it will be a pain in the rear-end.
  14. If that's the actual term and money then pass. On both.
  15. We also need to clear up cap space by giving up assets if we try to acquire OEL too, so what's your point? FYI, just because OEL said he "would" accept a trade to Vancouver doesn't mean Arizona is just going to hand him over. lol. They don't want our cap dumps for him, they want actual valuable assets for a trade. Young players/Prospects/Picks (likely 1st rounder). So that means we don't have 2 First rounders in the two upcoming drafts and they want to take away one of our top prospects on top of that? We also would be paying OEL 8.25 million until he's 36? How is that much better than going after AP in free agency? We wouldn't need to lose valuable assets via trade, you could at least be able to negotiate term, and he's a better player than OEL. Mind you, I would prefer staying away from EITHER of them because each will cost a fortune. In reality this team isn't even in any position to try and acquire these players when we don't even have our goalie situation sorted out yet. However, if there is actual consideration for this team to acquire OEL then AP is a better option for me.
  16. Well, this is all assuming GMJB has a plan and can make other deals to clear up space which he will have to do anyway if he goes for OEL. 8.25 million X 7yrs isn’t cheap. Also, how much more exactly would Pietrangelo cost? Let’s say a 10 million dollar contract for 5 years? I would do it. He’s right handed and I’d say a superior defenceman. We’re also saving money because it’s a shorter term. Arizona wants a first rounder + a young defensive prospect for that OEL contract too. We’d be losing more by trying to acquire OEL.
  17. Hindsight is key. This is not a matter of OEL being a Swede, it is a matter of term and money. I wouldn’t be keen on having a 8.25 million dollar 36 year old. There have been so many instances where situations like these end up biting teams in the rear end.
  18. Two leftys? I don’t know the importance of LD and RD positionally, but there would be more balance if a natural RD with a right shot was there instead. If anyone, I’d go for Pietrangelo. We won’t need to give up assets via trade, he’s a better defenceman than OEL and he’s a right handed shot.
  19. Depends on next season for Petey and next-next for Hughes. If Petey progresses even more (which I suspect he will), he undoubtedly will command more money. Same with Quinn Hughes. I think a fair prediction would be 10mill for 8 years each.
  20. He's not great or awful. He's decent. Also, As GM, I know he has the final say, but the management team around him also deserves credit for the successes and failures.
  21. Its nice to hear that he would be willing to come here but its just not worth it. Our LD depth considerably better than our RD and we would be stuck with yet another Eriksson-type contract in the coming years. We also need to consider what will happen with Miller in 3 years, Boeser in 2, Bo in 4, Petey and Hughes coming up too (probably around 10 mill each). ALL of which I would prioritize over Ekman Larsson. Imagine committing 8.75 at 7 more years for him during a timeframe that would overlap these contracts. No. Thank. You.
