VAN Ranked #3 For Prospect/Young Depth & Quality
PetterssonOrPeterson replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Canucks Talk
I still remember the days when Canucks fans viewed Frankie Corrado as our hope on defence. Yikes lol. Let's just say, it feels nice to have the wealth of prospects that this management has built. -
Maybe Tyler Madden can fill that ro-........ oh wait nevermind. All jokes aside, I think Motte is more effective as a winger and shouldn't be transitioned to centre. Hopefully Gaudette can develop his defensive game more. He looked lost out there at times during the playoffs. Either that or we try to look for a reliable alternative. Maybe move Beagle up to third line centre (assuming Sutter is gone) and get a cheaper alternative for the 4th line centre role? There are lots of options so I am not too concerned.

He just doesn't care. That's his problem

[Proposal] VAN - OTT
PetterssonOrPeterson replied to AriGold2.0's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
It's Pierre Dorion... so its worth a try. -
I personally think he wants nothing to do with this team anymore. There is the business side of hockey but there is also his pride as a hockey player. Imagine being demoted to the AHL when you were once a main player on the big club's roster. Not to mention he also requested a trade the past deadline, which Benning was keen on doing but couldn't find any suitors. The club pretty much made it known to him that he is not in their future plans and I think its a matter of time before he gets traded or bought out.

That's fair. I will say that when the pieces start to come together you need to eventually change into the "win now" mindset. We are slowly watching these guys like Hughes, Bo, Petey, Boeser, even Miller as our core coming together and being able to hold their own for the most part. I do agree that we shouldn't trade our prospects and picks but I think the key to this team is an upgraded and solidified bottom 6. Podkolzin, Lind, Hoglander..etc. could very well fill those roles. However, you can't wait forever to be in the win now mode. Once you've established your core and have key prospects in the system coming to bring new life into the supporting roles then its time to go for it. Look at Chicago, in 2010, they had vets to play the supporting cast roles behind the Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook core and eventually got younger players to replace those depth roles in 2013 and 2015. I think it's a good template to try and emulate.

2011 was the "Boston-model" 2020 is the "Vegas-model" lol

I agree. While it might have been too high of an expectation, I was hoping that he would have some sort of a Kassian-type playoff coming out party we saw a few years ago with what he did in Edmonton. One key thing that I noticed is that Virtanen has the tools to do so, but he has no edge whatsoever. He’s not mean and doesn’t play nasty. That’s the difference.

I know everyone is disappointed but lets not forget they proved everyone wrong after Game 5. Pushed the cup contenders to the brink. We had to prove ourselves by first beating Minny to get into the playoffs. They took out the defending cup champions. NO ONE would’ve expected this last year. Year after year being at the bottom of the standings, missing the playoffs for 5 years straight. We were spoiled this summer with finally some memorable playoff hockey since 2011. Thank you Canucks. Couldnt be more excited for the future.
