  1. Left side defense wasn’t really a problem the right side has been though.
  2. Another example of money that is against the cap and is being used on players who are not dressing. We must be the one of the only teams who waste money.
  3. Not really. A good gm finds a way to improve this team on d. He could do it but probably wont and by now is sort of late to get anything done.
  4. I am not sure but a lot of great general managers find those trades and have those assets to make those trades. I don’t really put Benning in that great gm category. I just think great gms find a way to get things done rather than shrugging and say we couldn’t get anything done.
  5. They are also injured often, that is just a reality. So that doesn’t give me much comfort.
  6. I hope no one is bashing him. I do think he shouldn’t have signed a contract if he was having doubts about playing. There was a good chance that everything that happened was going to happen. He should have just said he wasn’t ready to commit at that time. It just really hurts the team in the end. He needs to do what he needs to do but he must have had doubts before that contract or knew the risks or protocols that may have been talked about being implemented.
  7. Ya but when is Sutter or Motte ever healthy? Their track record for staying healthy is abysmal. Even if they do get healthy there is a good chance they get injured again. Relying on those players would be foolish wouldn’t it?
  8. Ya but even before the Hamonic signing they should have looked at improving it some how with a player better than Hamonic. They didn’t really need to sign Pearson with all the forwards they had. With the money that was spent on Hamonic’s and Pearson’s contracts they could have gotten a decent dman but they don’t have the cap space now so shoulda, woulda, coulda. The gm just seems very narrow minded at times.
  9. Well I don’t know about fine. The PK has been horrible. It is a concern.
  10. Ya but should he be in the top 2? I think he would be good on the second set of defenseman pairings but he shouldn’t have been counted on to be used on the first. It was more by default because there was/is no one else. They need to address that somehow.
  11. Ya you just have to hope no one on right side D gets injured because then what do you do? Maybe Pearson and a draft pick would get something done.
  12. He was acquired in 2017 in a trade from LA but you either develop them or trade for them. It would have to be good price going back to make a trade like that which I don’t think we have the assets.
  13. Both have their flaws and if any gm replacement comes it needs to be someone new with fresh ideas and without a connection to the history of the organization. It would just be so stale to bring in someone who was previously here. I guess we will just wait and see what the season brings.
  14. Ya. I guess that tells you how weak our D may be this year.
  15. A dman like Cernak from Tampa would have been soo good for this team. Yes they don’t come around often and you have to develop them. We really don’t have any of those type of dman in our system. I don’t know how they will fix this issue. They may have to wait for a team to start out poorly and try to pounce on them in a trade. It really is something that looks rather bleak to fix at this point.
  16. No, I just meant that we knew he was a 6-8 defenseman and maybe that time should have been used to set our top 6 dman and gain chemistry. I am not sure why he needed such a long look.
  17. Ya. I think what you see is what you get right now. The team would be so much better with at least one first or second right side defenseman and right now we don’t have any. It is a major red flag where I feel we will have to outscore our opponents. It was one area they needed to address in free agency or by trade in the off-season and didn’t. I know a lot of people mention Hamonic but even with Hamonic it was a weak point. I think it’s going to be a problem until it is addressed. Especially when injuires hit the team.
  18. I don’t get the hype that management has with Burroughs. Does anybody else see anything there? He has been ok but nothing to warrant the amount of looks he has gotten.
  19. They made it twice but I wasn’t talking about them making the playoffs. I said that there hope was to make the playoffs. Nothing higher than this and they failed to that 5 of the 7 years. The bar should be higher by now is my point. There hope shouldn’t just be to make the playoffs anymore but it is.
  20. They really need a young gm with a creative and innovative mind to come in and lead this franchise. Tired of watching blunder after blunder. It makes the franchise look like a joke. Why do so many problems follow this gm around? You see franchises like Tampa Bay ran with an amazing amount of pedigree and professionalism. The owners have to start setting the bar higher. They have enabled a losing atmosphere.
  21. 7 years of Jim Benning and his inconsistent managing style. One things that really bothers me and I know Hamonic is making decisions that may have surprised Jim Benning but this seems to be a reoccurring theme of not taking due diligence to make sure money is not being wasted. There was the Ferland situation where concussions and injuries were already a problem and then this Hamonic situation where more money is being wasted on nothing. Money being spent on players who won’t have any affect on the team which is really bad in a salary cap era. We can’t afford to just be throwing away money and saying oh well it’s not a problem, it is and a big one. Money that is just sitting there and not being used to improve the team. Embarrassing. It will be interesting to see what he has to say about more money being thrown away at a player who might not play for us. He at times just seems like oh well. Shrugging and moving on to the next thing. I am surprised the owners aren’t angry by now at money just being thrown away for free.
  22. I just don’t get why people are excited just to make the playoffs after 7 seasons of Jim Benning at the helm. No one has mentioned that their expectation is to be Stanley cup contenders which it should be after 7 long years and there are some major holes in this lineup that can’t be ignored but they will be by management. Right side defense, a true power forward and some pk players. You need all these things to be considered a stanley cup contender, yet people are excited if we just make the playoffs. Our expectations should be higher at this point shouldn’t they?
  23. Ya but didn’t we say we needed more offence from other lines because the bottom two last year didn’t provide any? It just seems we are heading in that direction again. Great that he kills penalties but no offence. Hmmm
  24. Yes let’s continue to add pieces that teams don’t want because that has worked out in the past. If Juulsen makes you feel ok about the right side then I don’t know what to say.
