I just love how many people want to keep him on as GM when he does the same thing over and over and all he has to say to those fans is “He’s an important piece in our group.” What has the experience of these players and what has all these important pieces gotten us in his 7 years here? The third and fourth lines are a major problem. Too much money spent on below average players. If you look at great teams, they aren’t spending as much as we are on their bottom lines. It doesn’t make sense. I don’t know what the answer is. Obviously Benning is staying. It’s also obvious he is terrible at contract negotiations. We really don’t have a second line. Pearson isn’t a second line player. Hoglander is very young and Horvat is Horvat at this stage in his career. I think Podkolzin will help. I just am surprised that Benning has made a lot of bad mistakes in terms of term and the money given. It really has hindered the ability to get supporting players around our stars. What is going to change from this year to next coming back with the same group? It’s another excuse driven season as to why they aren’t good. Tired of hearing him use every excuse in the book.

People have to realize that they have not practised and are going to be out of shape, skating wise if and when they do return. The virus takes away energy and their bodies will have to recuperate. They aren’t going to be magically better. There will be lasting effects that will take months and months to go away. Just because they get cleared to play doesn’t mean they will be close to being healthy. They won’t be icing anything close to a full nhl lineup, yet people have this idea we still have a chance. The writing is on the wall for this season. It is a lost season.

Canucks have more NTC and NMC than any other NHL team

They are perpetually losing anyways. lol. How many winning seasons have they had? -
I love that when people don't agree with people they are considered dense, only see grey and not black and white, which is not true. The biggest problem with this team is a lack of depth. We weren't deep enough with Pettersson, Sutter, Pearson in the lineup and without them we are even worse. The bottom six statistically is bad. It's why they are not doing well this year. It's just facts. So who does that fall on? Well I'm sorry but Benning hasn't really changed the bottom six the past couple of years. My thoughts are based on Benning's history. I hope he does find a way to get some assets back for players that are not likely returning. I don't understand why people are so thrilled with a team that is less than mediocre right now? They aren't even .500. Yet, people are upset if you you criticize them. We aren't real fans because real fans stick by their teams and say nothing negative. Benning has done great at the draft. He has made some good trades. He also has mishandled the bottom six in terms of term and money spent. He has a lot of the same players that do the same thing. He also has failed multiple times at acquiring assets for players becoming ufas. Maybe the depth is coming but right now. We don't have the depth to plug in our lineup for the bottom six. I could easily say everyone who is critical of people who criticize the team are not true fans because they ignore the terrible things Benning has done and accept being less than mediocre. It goes both ways. We might potentially lose Ian Clark with this wait and see approach. It's very scary stuff going on here. There are a lot of great things about this team but how is he going to insulate the core right now with no money to spend to bring in other players? It's not getting better next year. We have to sign Hughes and Pettersson. I think the money we save on not bringing Sutter and Pearson back is going to those two so I don't see where the money comes from to find other players to insulate the core.

I am sorry but this has been a lousy year. The biggest and best thing about this year has been Demko and Hoglander. Their record is lousy. If I had a bunch of great things to say about this team I would but right now we don’t really have a bottom six. We have a bunch of contracts that are hard to get rid of because of money and term that Benning gave. He wants two more years. Even during that winning steak the way they were winning was unsustainable hockey. Demko basically had to win them games. I am not going to sugarcoat a bad season. We don’t really even have a bottom 6 or a top 6. We have 5 players in the top six. Why are you so happy with where they are at? They are losing and not going to make the playoffs. You can’t tell me the way they play has been great either. I am not sure why you want me to be positive with how the team is structured or how the season has gone.

I have not mentioned one trade the Canucks should do. I am saying they tend to sit on players who have expiring contracts. We get nothing for them in the end. How is that good asset management? It’s not. I am sorry but when you try to throw insults by saying you are behind your laptop making deals and I bought my team for 79.99 at Walmart. What would you call that? That is immaturity. That’s not having a conversation. That’s an accusation. There is more than enough evidence to point to the deficiencies of Jim Benning to be replaced. More failures than successes. I understand you guys like Jim Benning but you can’t ignore the big holes this team has and the amount of time he has had to fix them.

I love people who respond in a post by attacking people they don’t know and using big works to sound smart. It’s a very immature response with video game comparisons. It’s not the first time I have seen you try to do it to others. You try to use video game references to stop people in their tracks and make them feel stupid. It also makes it hard to take you seriously. Bravo but it doesn’t work on me. There is more than enough evidence to understand who Jim Benning is and how Jim Benning works. This isn’t his first year. He has always made excuses as to why he hasn’t been able to move players. Yet other teams seem to move out players with no problems. I am basing it on how he has worked since he has been here. It’s all we have to go on. So suggesting that people who make comments are treating it like a video game is a dumb argument and insulting. He always has an excuse as to why things can’t be done. Figure it out and get creative and so far he hasn’t.

Seven years without a clear plan from Canucks brass.

I think the players have to be held accountable and have to realize that it’s a consequence of playing so poorly. If you don’t want things to change, play better. He can’t just let things be either. If they are angry they have to accept responsibility for putting the gm in that position. You can’t pretend there is a chance of making the playoffs for the sake of the players. -

A lot of these were just picks that the Canucks already had. He hasn’t been able to acquire more picks when he should have. -

Yes and they say they aren’t ready to make an impact now. The depth right now isn’t there. -

Yes and people want to forget who overpaid the amount to all these veterans. The cap was also a lot tighter because we gave too much to bottom 6 players. -

So here’s my question to everyone. Are there more reasons to keep Benning as gm or are there more reasons to fire him? Please explain. -

So go ahead and tell me what they are? You have to come back with actual assets we have right now made from those trades. He has also let a lot of players walk for free. I can go through a long list if you would like. Again it has affected our depth long term. -

It’s part of the reason why our depth is so bad. Letting ufas walk for nothing that’s why. -

When has Benning in his tenure been able trade players on the roster for assets? We have seen this story before. He will come out and say he tried but there was nothing. You will see a lot of other teams make trades and we will be left scratching our heads. How come it is so hard for our team make moves and yet we see other teams making trades and getting assets back? It’s because they have gms that are capable. If he surprises me that will be awesome but I expect more excuses as to why they couldn’t make trades. It happens almost every year. The puzzled, bewildered look we have become so accustomed to. I hope I am wrong but with covid it’s another excuse to use. -

It’s not so much that he lost him, it’s just it makes it look like our gm is not incompetent. It questions his ability to make moves and sign players, coaches etc. I feel very nervous with Benning as gm. He tends to do a lot of things out of desperation and leaves things to the last minute. Maybe the owners have a lot to do with that. As a fan, does that give you a lot of confidence when the gms hands are tied? I think we need a gm with a stronger presence that can tell the owners to not worry about doing their (the gms) job. He just doesn’t seem to have the confidence to do that. A puppet is what I think about when he talks to the media. -

The gm came out and said he ran out of time. That’s embarrassing. It was not great for ten games, sorry we lost assets. Our depth is already depleted. The organization is not set up to lose assets right now. When you have a plethora of assets to trade you can do that sure. The way it’s set up right now they can’t afford to just give assets for ten games. That’s the reality. The experience was ok but remember that really isn’t a playoff atmosphere right now so everything is a bit screwed up without fans. It will be an entirely new experience for them when fans return. What exactly did that experience in the bubble do for them this year? Not much. I think the biggest thing is that it showed the potential of Demko. -

Very immature response. Attacking people for having an opinion with insults about playing video games because you can’t hold your own in a conversation. You leave right after throwing jabs like that. I am expecting the same response after this reply. Lol. People who post on here are allowed to have their opinions without people throwing insults about video games and so on. You don’t have to agree. You mentioned about Hoglander but fail to realize he gave a 2nd pick and Madden for ten games. That is not good asset management. It’s just not. Those could have been assets for the future or to acquire a player with more term at least. He gets desperate and makes trades that hurt the future of the organization. -
What is the veteran presence doing for our team right now? They are still losing and it’s the veterans who are making a lot of the mistakes. Edler, Roussel, Sutter etc. You don’t think it’s important to gain as many assets as possible right now to better in the future? Part of the depth problem is that we haven’t gotten assets when we should have from veterans who weren’t going to be back the following year. Why keep them around for 19 games to watch them walk at the end of the year? That makes no sense. The argument has to make sense.
